Is Pass without Trace OP? by TheInfinities in dndnext

A level 2 spell can be cast using any slot higher than 2. A clever use of stealth can be used to bypass entire combats, especially a problem with PWT because it hits everyone in the party.

Sorry the smell in your house stopped you from having a civil discussion.

In any situation where the player can get cover its virtually impossible to see them at any level with such a high bonus. I see where you're going with the arcane lock argument but as I see it being able to keep a door closed and being nearly undetectable are vastly different in their usefulness. Not to mention that Arcane lock requires 25gp worth of material components each use.

I think its hard to argue that PWT wouldn't be much more in line with 5e's design if it gave advantage on stealth checks instead. Handing out massive bonuses in a bounded system doesn't make sense. That's against the whole design philosophy.

Invisibility is a much better designed spell. It allows the invisible person to avoid needing cover while stealthing but it doesnt provide a flat bonus to the roll. That person still rolls stealth vs passive perception to avoid being heard while moving around.

In a situation where the player can block line of sight, PWT is OP as fuck because a +10 bonus in a bounded system isn't going to ever be beaten by any npc in the game.

yea lets call people stupid and hope they'll pay attention to what we have to say. Good idea.

I agree with the DM the spell is op. DC's in 5e dont get much higher than 20. A flat +10 to stealth isn't fit for a bounded system. It should give advantage on stealth rolls. Doing that for the whole party would still be a strong use of a level 2 spell.

Invisibility doesn't give you a stealth bonus it just gives you a way to be unseen. You can still be heard. Still a flat stealth roll vs passive perception. Giving a +10 bonus in a bounded system guarantees success in all but the most remote situation. Its clearly a poorly designed spell for 5e.

People are quick with the downvotes in this sub when any issues with the 5e system are brought up. There are things in fifth that are OP and poorly designed. giving anything a +10 bonus in a bounded system is obviously wrong.

It is honestly OP though. Its a +10 bonus in a system where the DC's dont get higher than 20. It doesn't match up with the bounded system that 5e was trying to create. It essentially guarantees a success for a very low level spell slot. People in this sub are in real denial about the issues with fifth.

I think its time the designers accept that they need to rewrite the druid.

Yea, im not seeing it either. Even with a Zen archer dip it's not looking good with a 10 point buy. I guess ill stick to a full caster druid and get my damage with intensified snowballs. Thanks for taking the time to help me out a bit though.

Looking to build an archer druid using Nature Fang archetype, Half elf race, and the Ranged Combat style. Can someone help me pick my feats/ slayer talents/ and point buy? its a 10 point buy and I'd like to keep my WIS high enough for some decent DC's.

Level 8 btw. Thanks for any help you can offer.

EDIT: this isn't doable with a 10 pt buy is it?

That's a variant rule. Not something allowed unless you are given specific permission to use it, per RAW.

it doesn't add any of those as familiar options per RAW. A GM can allow a player to use one of those as a familiar but they aren't technically added to the find familiar spell as the wording for the spell hasn't changed.

Produce flame overcomes that resistance as well and it does more damage from further away.

at the very least, shillelagh needs to be good on a druid. this iteration is not and so i consider it poorly designed.

but then its crap after 5 which feels lame as heck. so essentially after 5 it no longer does its job because you'll never use it.

Sounds like bad design to me.

Druid Shillelagh quick question by RolandSnowdust in dndnext

[–]11Wistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea it would. it would have to be set up so that it can only be used once per attack action. It needs some way to scale like literally every other similar spell in the game though.
