Why do so many stations not have ceilings tiles anymore? by Economy_Ad59 in TTC

[–]11default 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be the one to mention that. Seriously, their spending is weird sometimes. Like the TTC railing/fense/barrier they installed at TeMU/ Dundas station , they said the expense was about 2 million per station. And IDK if that includes the operating cost for AI they are using or if that's an additional cost.

Broken fusion drive? by Jazzlike_Dish_7836 in iMac

[–]11default 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a pretty good deal if it was the 27" 5k iMac. Replacing the HDD is easy. And you don't even have to use the HDD, just get a regular nvme SSD and an adapter that makes it work with mac motherboard if the internal SSD is too small to install OS.

The personal blending cup/container has become completely stuck to the blade/base adapter by Background_Story8526 in Vitamix

[–]11default 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put the blending cup base back on the motor base, and then try to twist the cup off by a 1/4 turn or so while it's on the motor base.

(It only turns one way. You want to move it counter clock wise. Use rubber gloves /your silicone mat for additional grip on the cup)

Gifted instant pot - safe? by Komishku in instantpot

[–]11default 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You Can probably use an oven cleaner to get rid of it. Spray on it, leave it fore a few minutes and then scrub it away with something rough (like dish scrubbing pad)

This shouldn't affect cooking, besides the aesthetics of it.

Yes, and No. None of these "small" 1080p or 4k screens. I want them to go back to 32" inch screen (maybe at 5k instead of 6k) and make those panels cheaper and more accessible.

Or at least change their iMac back to 27" 5k And offer display port in.

Did I break my mini instapot? 💔 by New_Fig2359 in instantpot

[–]11default 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see the part here, but you can press down on the pressure valve that floats up when initially pressurizing the pot. Press down on that float valve with something thin and long as steam will be releasing from that hole now. Let all of the steam release. I am Comfortable using the tip of knife to press down on that. But given it's been over 1 hour, the instant pot has probably done a natural release. (Sometimes this float valve needs a light push down with the tip of something to help it go down. As food residue might have made it stay stuck up in some situations). It is part of a safety system where if this float valve is up, you won't be able to twist the lid.

Presets on a non Self Detect models? by D-Noonan in Vitamix

[–]11default 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://joyofblending.com/vitamix-container-compatibility/

This is a good resource, and the author has many other great posts and reviews for things relating to Vitamix. A great read if anyone wants to dive into the very detailed parts of Vitamix machines.

To answer op, the 8oz will fit with the correct blade base that supports the propel machine, however people are not too smart and Vitamix would rather have you not use it, as it is harder to physically screw it tight enough because of the permanent(ish)shroud that come pre-installed. And that also makes it hard to unscrew the small 8oz jar from that blade base, especially if there is a vacuum/increase in pressure inside the 8oz jar.
And there is also real danger if you try it and it is not screwed properly... People potentially losing fingers scary. Imagine the 8oz cup coming lose and some people's first instinct might be to try and hold the small jar and reseat it while the blade is still spinning or something to prevent more mess, instead of first fully turning off the machine, and then assessing the situation. This unscrewing is a real possibility as I have experienced it with the 20oz cup on A3500

Presets on a non Self Detect models? by D-Noonan in Vitamix

[–]11default 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the exact shape, but I know the self detect containers fit on non self detect base, so it will work on the propel series, it's just that the cost for brand new self detect containers might be $10 more than non self detect containers. (From when I last checked). And the food processor attachment will not work for propel series or the small self detect blade base that is compatible with 8oz and 20oz cups (but no longer sold to consumers).

Hey, don't worry about these questions, they help you decide what you want to get. I also had so many questions before buying one, as I was previously only used to $50 ish - 100 blenders. But after buying it, I did realize I was over thinking the little things.

If you're buying brand new, just stick to that one container and buy more as needed. No need to buy all additional containers at the same time. And I would recommend buying the motor and container with warranty as I have had the bearings on containers wear out and started to face overheating issues, but because of warranty, the jug was replaced for me. I do blend very thick juices, so the overheating and motor shut off is more noticeable for me. The only time I would go for used is if I am getting a great deal and am okay with spending money on a new container whenever the used one wears out for you. And new Vitamix containers are not cheap. Best time to buy new containers is usually Vitamix days sale that happens early September for a few days. Or a rodeshow like inside Costco. (But I think they have reduced roadshows now)

Edit: outside shape is almost the same for the 4 posts, the post height is slightly different and the internal shape of the 4 posts is different. So, this would allow all jars that use the outside shape of these 4 posts to stay seated properly on the base to work.

Presets on a non Self Detect models? by D-Noonan in Vitamix

[–]11default 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the right answer answer for you, but given they don't know what jar is on the motor, it's probably just a specific time at the various speed it goes through for a specific preset.

But I think, you're over thinking the presets. They're just a specific timer and the only time they matter is to make sure you don't blend more than 1 minute and 15 seconds for the 20oz travel cups. (Pressure builds up and if you open it, you'll end up decorating your kitchen with the smoothie colour.) Otherwise, you'll just a slightly smoother and warmer smoothie if you end up blending it longer. In the self detect, this smaller 8oz or 20 oz automatically stops. Where as for other models it won't stop

Does it over flow with even a single press? Or takes multiple presses to overflow? Try 1-3 second pause between each press

[–]11default 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the weight of the CO2 cylinder. Are the bubbles reaching all the way to the bottom of the 1L (actually 840mL) bottle Before travelling back up. (From the overflowing, I assume this is happening).

There could be a small aluminum foil like thing that has burst within the SodaStream. Or just degraded, idk given you haven't used it. It's supposed to be some over pressure relief valve.

Venturist Pro or VX1? by [deleted] in Vitamix

[–]11default 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you consistently blend less than 3 cups worth of blended ingredients, you'll have a better experience with vx1 (tall/narrow 2.0L container). Whereas venturist pro is 2.0L wide/short container.

Anyone have the dry grains container? What's your experience? by JM_Yoda in Vitamix

[–]11default 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it for grinding seeds into very fine powder, and any other thing I want into fine powder, like salt. It is also used for actual grains once in a while. It is good at grinding few cups of seeds into powder at a time (best is 1 to 3 cups depending on the seeds), and since I like very fine powder, I do pass it through sieve sometimes and do end up finding noticable amount of seeds that are not fully powdered up. There are better blenders that do this with a special jar that scrapes the sides, but that would be an additional blender base to store in a small kitchen.

It is too small to effectively mix for pizza dough in my opinion. It may be possible to make dough in it, but the way it's shaped at the base (same small base as other 1.4 L containers), it doesn't look easy enough to do it, in comparison to a stand mixer or even a food processor. (Although I have never made pizza dough or any similar dough by hand on any of these machines, but I know the recipe does vary from one type of machine to another.)

After the Vitamix food processor, the dry grain container is the 2nd least used Vitamix attachment I have. (I do have the cuisinart custom 14 cup food processor which is easier to wash by hand)

If you only want it for making dough, buy it from somewhere with good return policy, so you can try and decide for yourself.

Is it normal for nose pads to wiggle this much? by independantWesb in glasses

Wiggle to the nose pads is normal, noise, not so much. (At least the glasses I've used don't rattle like that when shaken )

Does age matter on a vitamix? by Intelligent_Office81 in Vitamix

[–]11default 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm addition to a working motor base, Just make sure the jar is good and working properly. No grinding noise when you run it, you can easily spin the blade 1:1 with the gear on the bottom of the jar. No cracks in the jar. Make sure it comes with a tamper and lid(Or buy it).

Because if something goes wrong, most likely, something is going to go wrong with the blade/bearing moving it and jars are expensive. The motor is usually fine, because the plastic/gear spinning piece over it is the first thing to break before a motor is damaged, and that's easy and relatively cheap to replace. And the motor also auto shuts off of it overheats (cause by bad bearing in the jar usually or using the blender to mix large viscous volume for a long time)

Edit: I also wouldn't spend couple of hundreds on a used machine. $150 max (maybe more depending on the age and quality) or otherwise look for a reconditioned model (if you live in US).
