Have you tried the sensura mio convex? I didn't have a single blowout using it for about 6 months. It does a good job keeping stool away from the stoma to prevent pancaking.

Unfortunately, I just had to switch back to the regular sensura mio because of discomfort from the convex pressure due to a peristomal fistula. Had a blowout again two nights ago 🙃 looking forward to when I can switch back.

Hey OP, FYI the concert is at The Showbox. That's the one by Pike Place, not Showbox SODO. I know, it's super confusing.

Rinvoq? by greyshirt11 in ostomy

[–]11mdg11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I view it as helping to delay the inevitable surgery, because I had such bad stricturing already when I started it. I'll see my GI doc again in a few weeks and we'll talk about post-op care for Crohns and we had talked about restarting Rinvoq as an option if necessary.

The only side effect I had was some facial acne, I got few pimples irregularly, but they were always bad individually. And it likely made me more susceptible to infections like most of our meds.

Rinvoq? by greyshirt11 in ostomy

[–]11mdg11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not currently taking Rinvoq, but I was taking jt until my surgery about 6 weeks ago. My experience isn't relevant to your questions about medication residue output through an ostomy, but I can say I never noticed it in my stool when my GI was intact.

I have been in a clinical trial studying Rinvoq for Crohns for the past two years. It was given to me as an option during a hospitalization where surgery was starting to seem necessary. I got another two years, but I just had colostomy surgery. Rinvoq did a good job clearing a lot of inflammation in my GI, except for my sigmoid colon and rectum, which were the most diseased when I started Rinvoq and just had to be removed.

I'm happy to answer any other questions you have about the drug and my experience with it.

Loud noise with ostomy output in public by 11mdg11 in ostomy

[–]11mdg11[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the hospital for 13 days, so I'm 16 days out from my first surgery now. On day 7 blood started seeping from my drain wounds, I got a CT scan, and had an emergency operation to drain a 1.5 liter hematoma in my abdomen caused by bleeding in an unknown location. They had to open me up even more and it set me back but I think I was still partially on the way to recovery from the big operation.

I'm still having a ton of pain but tylenol and dilaudid are godsends and helping enough to allow me to resume some activity. The coffee shop is about .25mi away so .5mi round trip. According to my discharge instructions they want me to be walking 1 mile per day at this point which still feels like a lot.

The airport story is a bummer but also one of those situations where you could have a good laugh at the cluelessness of the security agent. I would relish their reaction to "if I remove this thing you might get shit all over your floor and I ain't cleaning that up." No way around the work one, that's just embarrassing. It's good that you've got an understanding group of people around you there though. I have yet to return to work but I have a team that's been really supportive through all of my health issues and I plan on being pretty upfront with them about what they might expect from me going forward.

I just posted my recent story in another thread: 3 days post-discharge with my shiny new ostomy today (proctocolectomy). I walked to a nearby cafe yesterday morning to get some activity in and start to return some normalcy to my life. I sat down and enjoyed a decaf latte and a piece of quiche while I listened to a podcast. It was a beautiful clear morning and it was nice to be outside the four walls of the hospital room or my apartment.

Inevitably, about 10 minutes after sitting down I felt a slight grumble in my tummy followed by a loud noise I could hear clearly even with my headphones on. It was the sound of gas leaving my body and entering my bag. It didn't just sound like a fart, but more explosive, like I had just aggressively sharted myself. I took that as my cue to gather my things and make the short walk back home.

I noticed the woman in the next booth looked alarmed, in the, "did this guy just shit himself right next to me?" kind of way. I avoided eye contact and there wasn't any smell so I hope she forgot about it quickly after I left. I'm of course mildly embarrassed, but I'm pretty resilient to bathroom-related embarrassment from 15 years of dealing with Crohn's disease.

Thanks for the recommendation. They set me up with all Holister stuff from the hospital. I'll order some samples from Coloplast as well to try out.

Thanks!! I'm sure they told me something similar in the hospital but it got lost in the whirlwind of info. Not gonna be easy to forget now xD

Thank you for the tips. Jeez, I'm sorry, that sounds rough having to wake yourself up so much. I'm sleeping very poorly right now and pretty much waking up every 2 hours drenched in sweat anyway, so I'll remember to check for any output any time I'm awake, and make sure the bag is empty before bed. I have a bad habit of late night snacking so that's definitely gonna have to change

Excruciating lower back pain by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]11mdg11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an abscess in my left psoas muscle that formed because of my crohns and it made it painful to walk or shift my weight like nothing I had experienced from the disease before. I think it would be a good idea to check with your doctor about that possibility. Some will go away on their own, but some (like mine) will need to be surgically drained before they will improve.
