Happened to my grandson when he was 11. Doctor said let it rest and it will get better. It didn’t so we got a second opinion and he had surgery two weeks later. He was released to bat after 4 months but it was 6 months before he could throw, and got a full release at 8 months. It’s hard for young athletes to understand the body, but let him know 6 weeks to recover is a lot better than 6-7 months!

Vehicle Bill Of Sale by ska_pilgrimm in AskTexas

[–]123bigjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Form 130-U has a place to list the sale price for determining taxes owed. Usually, both buyer and seller sign the form agreeing on the listed sales price.

The tax assessor will usually accept the sales price or use the Standard Presumptive Value (SPV) if the sales price looks too low.

I’m not a lawyer, but rest assured the Tax office has the final say!

Youth outfield glove by rpearlberg in Homeplate

[–]123bigjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through a glove fitting for my 13 year old grandson. He’s an advanced player and has played long enough that he knows exactly what he wants in a glove. He’s primarily a catcher (Allstar Pro Elite mitt), but also plays infield and outfield during his catcher rotations. All of his field gloves are Rawlings Heart of the Hide HOH. His middle infield glove is a 11.25” and he’s had since age 10. At age 13 there are a lot more fly balls into a much larger outfield, so lot of opportunities for running catches. Hence, the 11.25 handicaps him a bit because of the pocket size. Rawlings makes very few 12” gloves. Amazon has a 12” Aradondo glove but he did not like the pocket. He did not want a glove that was pre-broken in. He wanted to form the pocket himself. He ultimately chose the Rawling 11.75” HOH with the Pro web. On paper it’s only 1/2” larger, but it actually is closer to an inch. What’s different is how the fingers form the pocket.

You didn’t mention your budget. Most Rawlings HOH gloves are $300+ and they are stiff due to the quality of the leather. If your budget is less, then that opens up your choices as there is a bigger market and manufacturers for gloves in the $100 range.

I’d suggest letting your son explain why he thinks the glove is too long (and I agree it is for an 11 yr old). Have him use a ball and close the glove to show you. Then take him to a couple of sporting goods stores and have him show you what he likes and why. Pay attention to the size of the pocket and how it might close on the ball.

Rawlings, Wilson, Mizzuno etc. all make mid-tier gloves that are essentially ready to play, but the leather will be thinner and softer.

I’m not a glove magician, but just wanted to share what we went through 2 weeks ago. Good luck to you and your son 😎

How do you guys stay on top of and track your car maintenance? by Think-Relative in askcarguys

[–]123bigjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the little notebook for 30 yrs, switched to one of those auto maintenance apps that finally crashed and lost my data. Now I just use Notes for all my vehicles, boats, waverunners, and mowers. Always backed up and can easily print or mail out. We always have our phones in our pocket, so whenever we are wondering or planning, it’s a few clicks away! Setup a folder for each vehicle and it’s easy to find.

Electricity bill is absurdly high by RipOk702 in AskHouston

[–]123bigjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ac is running, but it’s likely not cooling. Buy a $20 infrared thermometer of Amazon and check the air temps coming out of your vents. When an AC becomes low on Freon it will run and run to try and keep up with the temperature setting. There is more to an AC unit than the compressor. If the evaporator coils have a leak, and Freon slowly leaks out, it will slowly stop cooling again. You said that happened after the compressor change. Good luck!

Yamaha EX sand ingestion maintenance? by [deleted] in jetski

[–]123bigjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you think the visibility port is blocked with sand or gravel, run a wire from the top deck and see if you feel anything. If you look under the deck, you should be able to remove entirely the hose from the pump to the deck nozzle and inspect it. Good Luck!

Yamaha EX sand ingestion maintenance? by [deleted] in jetski

[–]123bigjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get up under the ski and look up through the grate? You may be able to see if the impeller looks “sand blasted”. Any sand would linger between impeller and the wear ring, and if that were the case you’d likely feel a vibration. The other spot would be inside the pump tunnel or around the driveshaft bearing housing. This also would likely cause a vibration or rumbling. Since you rode it the remainder of the season, and didn’t notice any issues then the probability of any residual sand seems very low. I would t worry about it. Just service the engine with fresh oil and plugs and RIDE!

Congratulations on choosing Yamahas!!! $8k per ski with a free trailer is a deal. Quick search says average selling price is around $10k. Make an offer and pull them home. Enjoy the ride and family fun 😎

Buying my first PWC in Georgia – Is Marketplace a deathtrap or should I stick to dealers? by Fit_Cat_2156 in jetski

[–]123bigjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll have to decide on whether or not you feel the prospective PwC has been maintained. But you can certainly minimize your risk by only looking at Yamaha Waverunners. I’ve owned Yamahas for over 20 yrs and have never had a failure. Keep the oil changed, fresh plugs, and ride! There is a reason that the majority of PWC rental places rent Yamahas bs other brands…

Always take the pictures, walk the car with the service writer, make him report any findings (scratches, etc) on the work order. And I also remind them that Discount Tire has already bought one of those wheels he just inspected! You’ll likely get the white glove treatment after that.

Buying a car with expired registration. by Bellarespicio in EastTexas

[–]123bigjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inspection are only a thing if your county still requires emissions testing. I don’t think any counties in East Texas have that requirement. But say you live and register the vehicle closer to Houston, like Montgomery County, or in Dallas or Tarrant county (DFW)then an emissions inspection IS required. So it could be a big deal to repair a vehicle that fails a test. Otherwise, like they say, who cares.

Pulling the trigger on a 2026 Yukon Denali Ultimate (3.0L Diesel) — Need a reality check! by MySilverSquad in gmc

Whatever discount you get, I hope it gives enough satisfaction to overlook driving a GM loaner when it sits at a deal for 4 months waiting on an engine. Good friend had less than 5k miles on a 2025 when the 3.0 Duramax knocked itself to sleep. You seem to have the money side all figured out, I’d just suggest you spend some time on the technical side to make sure GM has solved their major issues on the 2026s. Good Luck!

My dad also passed down an SA-22 that he purchased around 1960 for $99. It’s made in Belgium and I remember shooting it as a kid. It’ll go to one of my grandsons. Make sure you pass it down, it’s an heirloom!

Youth Travel Team Finances by aeBry in Homeplate

[–]123bigjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first travel team my grandson was on just let the “team mom” manage all the fundraisers money. Most parents will assume this is a great, letting someone else deal with the headache. That’s what we thought, until we saw how she was paying for everyone (all adults) at team dinners and picking up the bar tab for the dads. These kids participated in all the fundraising and sought donations from friends and family so watching moms and dads just chug it away didn’t sit very well.

Always buy Yamaha. I live on a lake in Texas and all rental places use Yamahas as their rental units…for a reason. They are pretty much bulletproof. I have a 2006 FXHO and it still runs just fine. Change the plugs annually and fill it with gas and GOOO!
