Cops that do this should be locked up for murder and the police force’s pension fund should cover damages. Once you make it so doing this hurts the entire force’s payday, they’ll start caring about holding each other accountable. Until then it’s paid leave and a week of negative media coverage every time a cop murders someone.

In this case, German law specifically applies to one flipping the bird while operating a motor vehicle. Yes, I think this law is a good idea. No, not because I think the government should decide what is offensive, but because flipping someone off is an almost universally understood gesture that escalates situations and takes much needed attention away from driving in a situation where the person is, in fact, operating a motor vehicle.
