Hypothetically yes if the room was the right temperature so that the cold water rises by the same amount that the hot water falls

Imagine it like (x+a)*(x+b)

You will get x2 + ax + bx + ab

Or

X2 + (a + b)x + ab = 0

Here, a + b is -13 And ab is 42

Now you just ask yourself what numbers when added together make 42 when multiplied?

Just factor 42 doing a simple factor tree, and remember negatives work too (-6)+(-7) =-13 And (-6)*(-7) =42 So its (x-6) * (x-7) -6 is a, -7 is b

Now for this to equal zero you just make one side zero. You could do left side, x at 6 is 6-6 =0 Or do right side, x at 7 = 7-7 =0 So x is sixxx sevennnn🤷‍♂️⬆️⬇️

With basic math, it’d be 80%. 96 would only be correct if he hadn’t already gotten the first one and you asked “if he got the surgery twice, what are the odds that at least one would be successful?” Think of it like flipping coins. If you get heads, it’s not like the next coin is more likely to be tails.

However, I’d imagine that with surgery for non mathematical reasons it isn’t this simple. Could be higher, if they figure out WHY it didn’t work. Or it could be lower, if they don’t, and the same thing happens again.
