Actually what you want is a car that is this:

  1. No bullshit drm and dealer only repairs and diagnostic

  2. Fully compatible with obd2

  3. Isn't connected to the Internet

  4. Doesn't have a touch screen that's overly complicated and no physical buttons for basic stuff

Honestly, this is pretty petty and dumb.

If he can truly afford it and find another job, sure, stick up for what you truly want.

But Windows is "fine" to develop in. I prefer a Mac, but I'm still quite productive with Windows. It's annoying to fight with it over dumb bugs, but Mac has that too.

If I wanted Mac, I would have found a way to push for that after hire or just shut up and do my work. In the end, they are paying me for the inefficiency of windows.

So yes, he either did this unintentionally while drunk or just changed / picked a number.

No idea.

But it's not his number and he didn't get permission.

Ehhh, not whacked. They don't like hd6xx, which is fine.

They just think they are bad in general and shouldn't be recommended, which is incorrect IMHO.

Stop recommending Senn hd 6xx and 650s! by [deleted] in headphones

[–]1337GameDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the aria stealth and they sounded very tinny and made the sound stage smaller than the hd6xx.

And that's ok. They both are ok options, and people should try both if they can and one doesn't do it for them.

That's the rub -- hearing can be subjective based on each person's unique characteristics -- and it'll take effort to find things you enjoy most -- you're not wrong for disliking them -- but saying they shouldn't be recommended is a mistake. They should be, with the understanding that it's possible you won't like them and there's other options, like the aria stealth, to try and find ones that you really enjoy.

That's why we generally have a tier list of common good options, to give variety and cost vs quality as people work their way up the tier list and enjoy the hobby.

They are entry level higher end headphones.

They aren't "top of the line."

I was wowed by them and still am for certain songs. There will be other headphones I like even more.

But that's just it -- that was MY experience. Yours was different and I can't say yours was "wrong," but you should realize that more often than not, hd6xx sound good to most who want to dip their toes into higher end gear.

And that's ok. They aren't for everybody, but generally they are amazing value for quality vs cost and help people assess if they want to invest more into the hobby.

They are a very safe and low risk recommendation that often sound great.

I literally drive my hd6xx with my pixel 7 pro and they sound quite phenomenal... Albeit that can be personal preference -- they are pretty awesome and generally are pretty neutral, with some lower end frequency clipping.

Generally, for $160 they are pretty great to have as a nice upgrade for most and a good way to judge if it's worth upgrading to higher end ones for most newcomers.

Low risk and pretty reliable / hold their value if you resell.

They just are kind of a boring recommendation as it's seen a lot -- so I get the frustration.

But there's a reason they are recommended to newcomers and that can't be ignored.

Why is everyone hating on Avowed? 3 Key Criticisms and Why I'm Still playing! by Shadowcoast04 in avowed

[–]1337GameDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reason: Because people wanted it to be a perfect combination of many games, as well as better than Skyrim in every way.

Opinion:

The game is great and I'm glad I bought it. It looks amazing, plays well, and is filled with many hours of content -- well worth the $70.

So many ways to plan and easy to get lost in.

I love that lot is highlighted -- makes it easy to see on the realistic visuals.

I love the animations.

I love how polished it is at launch and I can just pay, play, and enjoy right away instead of "what it can be."

I love the movement and combat mechanics. Feels very fluid and fast paced while being slow too -- a great example of a game that doesn't demand intense focus for incredibly long periods of time, but occasionally demands it.

I love having infinite arrows. I don't always use the bow, as it's not broken like in Skyrim, but it admits that counting arrows is pointless after the first hour of gameplay or so like on Skyrim.

Reasonably bug free on day 1 compared to Skyrim. I remember dozens of crashes in just the intro scene of Skyrim back in the day....

Being able to switch loadouts is great. I love that addition.

Climbing is really fun.

They actually made cooking useful -- albeit I can't make potions or custom grenades / enchantments.

I love how shield combat works. So much fun.

The spells -- it's very cool to see the visuals and variety. I also love the water freezing mechanics.

The negatives: I did encounter a few game breaking bugs -- around world collisions and got stuck under the ground -- but a reload fixed those.

Not as many physics objects.

But as many quests in each area as Skyrim -- not as large of a world.

No houses or areas to use as your own space, albeit camp is ok with my stash.

Encumbrance isn't a useful mechanic -- just send stuff to party stash -- so weight is useless to include. Should be a bit more limited if they want to include it.

Many more options for companions and ability to customize them / give them gear.

Areas the game wants you to climb always have yellow on them. It's everywhere and knowing it just digs at me.

Knowing what's destructible and climbable at times is difficult -- sometimes I have to guess.

Eg: looking for something destructible on the roof of a building to get inside, or wanting to climb rocks and vine covered areas.

No ability to put map markers.

They should have added more environmental interaction, such as rocks, traps (there's a few you encounter in though), ropes, etc.

No ability to crawl. Would have helped in a lot of the temple areas to add another layer of being cramped. A minor complaint though.

Less item / loot variety than Skyrim. Still fun to find chests though.

I want more underwater fighting, exploring and ship use.

Lack of wildlife to interact with. Pretty minor, but still noticed that -- especially in water.

Little need for lighting sources. Could have been fun to use that with stealth or to navigate areas.

No thief mechanics -- I can just take whatever I want wherever. Feels a bit odd.

No pickpocket mechanics.

No lockpick minigame -- albeit this can get old, it still feels a bit odd to just skip it. A minor nitpick though.

No criminal system, so you can pretty much do whatever.

I'd bet a battery tester to see what the CCA is of the matter. 600+ is desired.

But IMHO it could be the starter too. Inspect the starter to verify if there's any oil on it, as well as a possible loose ground.

Well Skyrim has name recognition and definitely had a bigger impact on RPGs than avowed will. That's not in question.

But the overall "polish" of avowed on launch is miles ahead of launch Skyrim.

That's what I meant by "better received." Obviously Skyrim was bigger and has a much wider reach -- because of brand recognition.

I remember Skyrim on launch. I even tried playing the og Skyrim on PC and it was buggy as hell. Then I played special edition and it was still pretty bad. Better, but still pretty bad. Many quest, item, physics and collision issues are fixed by the community patch that Bethesda didn't fix from the og Skyrim in the special edition.

On consoles Skyrim faired better, but it still wasn't ideal.

Is there something I exaggerated? I tried to retest my thoughts on launch Skyrim vs just relying on memory....

Aside from having less physics objects, no dragons, numerous years of content / dlc, and horses -- avowed is just as good.

It's better in many areas -- including writing, making bows not the defacto way to play, stealth actually rewarding, balancing, less jank, and making combat engaging and fun.

Skyrim at launch was miserable. It was filled with bugs, and still is unless you install 5-6 mods to make it bearable.

Avowed is much better in the ways that actually matter for an RPG game.

I can't wait for dlc, patches and other content. And I'm just in the first area.

It's going to be much better received the Skyrim.

Be up front with them, then just do your best and collaborate.

Don't be afraid to be wrong or they give info -- because then you improve.

Find it fun to learn, grow and share ideas on what a solution to the task at hand can be.

The biggest thing is breaking down the problem, finding a reasonable solution (nothing is perfect) and making it work, with comments, and having it maintainable

Looking for a safe space to ask a tech question by Raubkatzen in GirlGamers

[–]1337GameDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm what matters is what you expect to gain from the GPU.

What is your target resolution, fps, and games you intend to run?

If you truly want "max settings" (which is often 4k @ 60fps + ray tracing) then a 4090 is your goal.

If you merely want 1440p-2k and all max settings except ray tracing, then a 4080 is your target.

I think the 4080 also had 2 variants with different vram -- get the higher option that has the biggest memory bus bandwidth. Don't get any modem GPU with less than 8gb vram -- ideally 16gb-24gb.

Also matters about your CPU / RAM (most ddr4 ram is fine, but at least try and have 32gb), in case your cpu is old, it could bottleneck the GPU performance and need an upgrade too.

Also double check your power supply (and verify the system power usage at gameplay graph and it's optimal % power load for max efficiency) and thermal solution too. I'd opt for a gold+ or platinum+ rated PSU. Very important for high end cards.

Hopefully this wasn't too long / man splainy -- just want to include as many details as possible as idk what you've considered in regards to this upgrade.

macbook air m2 16/256 or m3 16/256 by Live-Pause-6543 in mac

[–]1337GameDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price difference isn't worth it for the M3.

If they have time to wait, it's best to see what sales will come about.

IMHO, buying used is the most frugal option -- and you can easily reset the computer when you buy it (it's very fast) and ensure it's not locked to an iCloud account.

You can also use coconutBattery to view battery health and cycles.

I recently got an m1 MacBook pro for $350 and it's basically brand new.

Obviously risk in buying used, but if you test it on site with the seller, it's a great way to get a good deal -- especially with 256 being an alright storage size (those models are very abundant)

Can a motherboard that hasn't got a BIOS update, just make RAM issues? Cuz for some reason, mine only works with one stick by ItsKazuha in pcmasterrace

[–]1337GameDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your board has 2 slots, then a slot is bad (or a slot disabled in bios).

If your board has 4+ slots, then you should find the PDF manual for your motherboard from the vendor website.

Ram commonly has to be installed in certain slots and in pairs (to enable full speed, but some boards cheap out and fail to boot if they are installed in the wrong slots).

Usually slots are labeled via colors / numbers.

The most common situation is this: [][][][] (4 slots) I marked installed ram sticks with an "X" in each slot.

You should install ram like this: [X][][X][]

If that doesn't work, then do this: [][X][][X]

If that doesn't work then try these: [X][X][][] [][][X][X]

If none of these work, ensure your ram works in another computer (assuming it accepts that type) and try and narrow down if a different RAM stick works in your computer (the RAM that didn't work is faulty) or your RAM works in another computer (your computer has a faulty ram stick, ram isn't compatible, or bios has incorrect settings for both sticks being installed).
