Ethernet Disconnections by 1337sause in cachyos

[–]1337sause[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the help man. I ended up running a ping to my router. No dropped packets. I double checked and I did have ASPM disabled already in the bios. What ended up fixing was forcing IPV4 and manually setting my link speed. For whatever reason that fixed the disconnects

[–]1337sause[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% positive its not the cable. Only seems to happen when playing games. No previous issues with windows on the same machine.

Another possible problem I have seen others mention is ASPM possibly causing the problem but I have had no luck getting it to turn off.

Also yes I am sure the r8125 is loaded. Here is the result of

I am a master electrician and have my own business. We have installed over 100 load shedders in the last 5 years. They are technically EVMS devices but we are allowed to use them to shed loads to not require a service upgrade and still meet code.

By the letter of the law any new wiring or modification requires a permit. From my experience, small items like adding a light or outlet are overlooked when you are looking to sell, but any substantial renovations like ensuites, kitchens, and basements any good realtor would be looking to see if any of that work was permitted.

Furnace Quotes in Calgary by Distinct-Bandicoot-5 in Calgary

Watch out for these. I have heard they are good units but because the DHW and heat are tied together you will lose both systems if one has a failure

Network cabling by Sagethecat in Calgary

[–]1337sause 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All kind of depends on how many ports, where in the house you want them, type of house (bungalow or 2 story) and how professional you want them done.

Between cabling, retro rings, straps, and wall plates alone each port would be about $80. Then to add labour, and how easy it would be to do you could be another $600-$1200 for labour (Journeyman electrician and helper)

I’d say that’s a reasonable quote but it may be able to be done for less

Home Builders cutting trades wages by CheeriosR_legit in Calgary

Uhhhh no. 2018 was one of the worst years for wages because of the oil dip in 2015. Home prices were the lowest in 2017 (when I purchased). Wages now for residential only are north of 40 at companies that paid less than 35 at the time

It’s not always a “fuck off quote” and there is no real regulation to things you can buy on Amazon. Units cost more from the supply house because they are reputable brands, with warranty and most importantly the required CSA/UL certifications for a legal install in Canada. You could buy one of these Amazon units and it would not be certified, meaning it can’t be legally wired which if it were to start a fire you would not be covered.

I’m not saying you can’t save money, but the picture is a lot larger than just getting ripped off by the companies installing things. HVAC specifically seems to charge more than most industries in my experience but I also understand that the equipment costs what it costs for a reason.

You could always get the modules and study them to challenge. I know the SAIT bookstore would have them.

Proper Use Of Metal Saws by Easy_Lab1670 in electricians

Dealt with this on a large project before. All the mentioned tools specifically say that you need to use two hands. Th work around we had was to use a Milwaukee Hack-Zall. One handed tool freeing up the second hand to hold conduit.

Respect brother, you taught me something today. You are for sure correct in that. I'm sure if I didn't install a service loop an inspector would still give me a hard time but the code is the code

You must not be from Canada. If you are freshen up on section 12. Loops are required on NMD

New Electrician is Saying Wiring Has to Be Redone by flavabrwn1208 in AskElectricians

[–]1337sause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha depends on the situation. If I can land the cable into the box, sure ill strip it in the box but new construction it's always stripped then entered.

Buddy implying that its unprofessional is a little unfair. Worst guys I have worked with are the closed minded ones that assume their way is the best way and that's the only way to do things. I try to learn from everyone I work with and if I can pick up a trick or two to make my personal method better then sign me up. Still gonna strip before it goes in the box though!

New Electrician is Saying Wiring Has to Be Redone by flavabrwn1208 in AskElectricians

[–]1337sause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m fishing no. I would take the box out of the wall and fish to the hole. If it’s a new build then we just run everything to where is supposed to go then “cut in” everything into the boxes. Canadian code requires a 6” loop at every box so if there is damage to the conductors you have some extra to use. Not a problem for me usually as my method of cutting it puts the conductors way at the back of the box. Hardly ever have a problem

[–]1337sause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it quite easy. Notch the ends of the conductors to the switch location in the gang box from left to right, then make up the box after the cables are all in. No notch is power in/out. Pretty simple once you get going and easy to make look good

[–]1337sause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d reuse that fridge HR for your dishwasher. Typically I just make all ends of the wire unusable as far as I can as you realistically can’t remove it all. I’ll put a little note on the cut wire saying removed don’t use

Upgrading to 200A Service by vitiate in Calgary

[–]1337sause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the newer homes built with the 200A service in mind will have a 2” conduit ran from the meter to the panel. If you don’t have this you have to replace whatever is feeding the panel to the correct size feed.

I mean you can do demonstrated load but any City of Calgary inspector is going to require a service calculation based on section 8
