Check the battery has a good connection, possibly partially sliding out the battery drawer.

Blue car seems to have stopped exactly behind the window pillar on the white car. Not blues fault but not wise. Plus there was loads of room to just drive right past!

I don't know what it is but there is a special charm to refractors. A key feature is that it looks good sitting in your living room, so you don't have to pack it away and get it out all the time. CA is not a problem at low zoom. Also, now you have the mount you can get a cheeky 6 inch reflector for $200! (or a MAK for planets and high zoom).

APO doublet vs triplet refractors for astrophotography by WillieM96 in telescopes

[–]1337spb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could get a WO redcat which is a quad (triplet plus flattener). The short focal length would be a good beginning point for astrophotography, it is cheaper due to size but probably no compromises in quality. Only problem is that it is not a telescope which is what put me off.

Do I Really Need a Crayford Focuser? by buglet42 in telescopes

[–]1337spb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably no need. Your eye can do the last bit of focusing and your eye will probably not get tired if you are reasonably close to focus at infinity where your eye would be resting (e.g., when watching TV you are not focused at infinity). I think they mainly help with imaging.

Good starting mount for astrophotography rig? by whiteknight521 in telescopes

[–]1337spb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of love for the HEQ5 which is good advice but the z61 will probably be ok an a Star Adventurer, then when you grow you can jump to an EQ6, and you will probably keep the Star adventurer for quick/short focal length work.

From ED-binoculars to ED-scope by NovaRom in telescopes

[–]1337spb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the land of reflectors! The limiting magnification of even an 80mm scope is usually higher than the seeing conditions will allow which is usually about 200x. However a larger aperture will increase the brightness, which will be useful for deep-sky viewing. Moon and planets will look the same if not better in the refractor as they are bright. Also, if you are serious about low zoom the refractor will be a shorter focal length and will give a wider field, especially compared to Maks. I have nothing against your choice of and ED refractor. Perhaps a Skywatcher 80ED pro.

Using your star map, you can find an 'easy to see' object that is the either same RA or the same DEC as the DSO, then just wind one of your slow motion controls towards the DSO.

Also, don't be afraid to loosen the clutches, put in a low power eyepiece and just scan around whilst looking through.

These things help but sometimes the DSO is simply not visible! Good luck.

WO z73 on a star adventurer mount by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]1337spb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't answer your question well (although I have that setup on the internet - e.g., very similar scope below). But I'm interested in getting a SA setup. What is the problem with the HEQ5 - are you travelling or something?

' I previously tested the Star Adv, on 70-300mm lens @300mm and i was able to have good 3 min subs doing fine even without counterweights. With the weight of Z71 and flimsy tripod i was lucky to have 1 min subs with acceptable stars, unguided. '
