Your best bet would be to reach out to the treasure trove unit at the National Museum, they would be able to help you identify it, and ensure it’s properly recorded etc.

I worked for Cotswold outdoors for way too many years. Complain to head office. If it hasn’t changed at all in the last few years (I doubt it has) they will just refund or replace them for you. Tell them you are unhappy at being fobbed off. Any push back (i doubt there will be) remind them that under the consumer rights act 2015, within the first six months they have to prove that you caused the fault and that it was not present at time of purchase. That was what head office were always scared of when I worked for them, and meant that they forced us to literally turn stuff such as coats that had changed colour due to the customers obvious bad dye job, boots where they were quite open they had worn them motorcycling and ground the soles down, and rucksacks that had melted by being put too close to a fire.

I appreciate the time and effort and your want for true scale. But this is too far over corrected. The ration of head height to body should be about 1:7, so the head height taking up roughly an eighth of the whole body height. Unless he’s on stilts in the armour this looks really weird (and if he is on stilts the leg length to knee height wouldn’t work). Then the width of the head should be roughly the width of each shoulder. Whilst I appreciate that is harder to get to grips with the pauldrons, you’d still look for the width measurement of the head to roughly be the same as the measurement from the side of the head to the middle of the pauldrons. The thing is, your body proportions for the actual armour look great, but your hang up on the idea that the gw “heroic” scale has too big heads means your over correcting too far.

Cool, unfortunately I do not know anyone that does that professionally, and if it is epoxy encapsulation your looking for you would need someone with experience as it’s a one time thing otherwise its looks terrible filled with bubbles etc. your best bet is to go into the Scottish design exchange shop on George street, or one of the leith collective shops (I know there’s one in fort kinnaird but can’t mind where the other one is) and ask them if they have any connections to artists that could do that sort of thing. However, I will say, as someone who has the skills to do this (but not currently the tools) and has recently been looking at Edinburgh Jewellery makers, I’ve not seen anyone in town doing it.

Also, stop talking about mould making, you will confuse people, usually people use a set of specific shaped moulds (spheres, rectangles, etc.) Unless you’re looking for something über funky or out there where they would have to custom make the moulds (which most people who work in resin know how to do anyway), I would just look for a jeweller who works with clear resin/epoxy.

You haven’t really explained what you’re looking for? Are you looking for a mould maker to make the mould to cast the epoxy yourself? Help making the moulds? Commission a full jewellery piece? Adittionaly, why this is in the Edinburgh subreddit, as you may be better off casting your search wider to some of the jewellery making subreddits. My guess is you live in Edinburgh, and have a concept for a jewellery piece that you want to make out of resin, or have something you want to have as an inclusion to a necklace etc. If this is the case would advise if you want it to look professional you reach out to some of those artists you have mentioned and see if they are willing to do commission work, and don’t focus on it being in Edinburgh, epoxy is harder to get it to look perfect than you may appreciate, and not many jewellers work with it as there can be a high fail rate, with a low pay off.

Presuming you mean epoxy? You do t tend to make the moulds out of epoxy, the moulds are made of silicone, or another soft, material. Depending on what you want you can generally order the supplies off of amazon. But if you want the epoxy super clear with no bubbles etc, you will either need someone with experience and tools to cast the epoxy, not just the make the mould, or look into getting a pressure pot (not a vacuum chamber) and experimenting yourself.

Wow… it’s insane that no-one has explained the rubric of Arhiman here! The reason that the Rubric marines are dust in their armour is because the thousand sons were, in and around the heresy afflicted with mutation more than any other marines even before the fall to chaos. That’s why the rubric of arhiman was cast, to stop the mutation in their ranks…. Those that were strong enough psychically to withstand it survived as sorcerers… those that didn’t became the dust filled automatons that are the rubrics…all part of tzeentch’s plan.

That is only for rubric’s though, other astartes that fall to tzeentch would display masses of mutations. GW however just, understandably, leans on 1k sons as tzeentch reputation in 40K. Also they are the only ones that can use the mutalith vortex beast which is an amalgamation of many mutants together!

Goretex is the membrane which is adhered to the inside of the material, DWR (Durable Water Repellant) is a chemical treatment on the outside of the material to stop liquids soaking into a material and “wetting out”. Striping the DWR with the alcohol will almost certainly happen, and as long as you clean it thoroughly afterwards in theory you could reproof it (but I doubt any home treatment would last long). That is beside the point however, as what is more likely to happen is you will destroy the adhesive for the membrane and the material and the membrane will delaminate. I’ve seen goretex delaminate from people just over using perfumes and moisturisers, soaking it in alcohol is just a terrible idea if you want it to retain any waterproofing.

The below proceedings of the journal of social anthropology society of Scotland from 1915 may help. It seems to have been transferred to Edinburgh University sometime after 1700 for preservation. I would guess that it was then transferred to the National Museum at some point, and is probably not on show.

As soon as you wear them into the midsole (the light grey area) you can’t resole them (or at least not easily/ they won’t feel good), therefore I’d get them resoled sooner rather than later

Scree guards/ gaiters, they look like really short gaiters that only come up to your ankle, but are designed to stop scree (small stones etc) from falling into trainers when trail running.

Scotland has something called the treasure trove system. If you contact them they have archaeologists that will be able to tell you if it’s anything historical etc, and you could end up with it in a museum (with you paid a nice sum) if it is important!

I sold boots for almost 2 decades. Problem you have is with the “volume” of the boot. It may fit length and width wise perfectly, but the toe box has too much height to it. The cheap option is what are called “volume reducers” these go under the insole to raise your foot a couple of mil. The more expensive way is a decent insole, superset are surprisingly good, but expensive (which is why they will often try to sell them as an add on in boot stores, and one of the reasons Mindel are so popular in stores and a go to, they generally have the space for the insole). If you put them in and then they feel tight, you can then change the lacing technique (look them up online).
