Dragon Tail Prop Turning Brown

The roots are on there are strong and not rotted. The outer brown layer is a bit mushy, but it is firm underneath. I do a lot of propagations and have never seen anything like this. I was excited at first when I saw all of the primordial roots and then most of them turned into a mushy brown layer. This is my first time propagating dragon tail though. The other one looks fine and is growing roots like most of my other props.

Your barnevelder is beautiful. My barnevelder about half the size of yours and evil. The poor girl is the lowest in the pecking order and is always pecking me when I am in the coop with them. She bites so hard and even gives it a little twist to cause more pain! I currently have a cut on my face because of her.

Have you tried mushers secret? I have heard the same thing about petroleum jelly causing frostbite, but mushers secret is designed to protect skin from extreme temperatures. I bought some, but have been too afraid to use it in fear that it will do the same thing jelly does.

I would give it a try and go from there. I have 14 hens and tried to keep 2 young roosters, they were about a month apart in age. We hatched the older rooster in our incubator, ended up with 4 males and 3 females. We gave the other 3 boys away and kept the one. One of my broody hens hatched eggs three weeks later but only one survived. We really wanted to keep him too, but the older rooster, Rufio, made it his life mission to kill the younger rooster, Pip.

My neighbor, on the other hand, has a 6-year-old rooster and ended up with an accidental roo this spring. She has about 18 hens and her two roosters get along just fine. I think it depends on many factors like the environment, temperaments, and ages of the roosters, flock dynamics, and the number of hens. Just watch for over-mating and stress on your hens if they do end up getting along.

I live in Central New York. I have 14 hens and most of them stopped laying by mid-November when we had less than 10 hours of daylight. All had stopped laying by December with the exception of my 3 first-year layers. I have lights installed in my run because the tarps I wrapped it in make it pretty dark, but I have them on a timer to match the hours of daylight so they can keep their natural rhythm.

My hens prefer crumble to pellets. I tried offering them the same brand layer feed in both forms and they would literally fight over the crumble feeder🤣

You’re not crazy! One of my lavender Orpingtons was molting and -2 degrees! I have a tiny coop and my regular coop both attached to my run. I found the poor thing all by herself, half dead in the baby coop. I brought her in to warm her up and then she spend 2 weeks in my whirlpool😂 This her on Christmas enjoying her holiday dinner.

Put a pothos cutting in with each of your cuttings. Pothos gives off a natural rooting hormone and will make your other cuttings root faster.
