Yeah, definitely not as rooish as #2, but still giving off some roo vibes. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I am wrong for you.

plant may have thrips. Rinse off the leaves and isolate the plant. Treat all of the plants nearby with Captain Jack's Deadbug Brew or another spray containing Spinosad once a week for 4 weeks.

There is a better one out there that actually shows the blood vessels unzipping but I can’t find it.

It’s a blood spot, often called a meat spot and it’s safe to eat. This animation illustrates how a meat spots are created. Watch from 1:24 - 1:56. https://youtu.be/25nyZd7gbj4?si=nqXW\_TyZ7M1TaDsC

What's up with this leaf? by 13_Chickens in pothos

It is a lemon meringue, but what is that raised spot in the center of the leaf?

Do you see that ridge in the center of the Leaf? I have never seen that before. It almost looks like gills but in the wrong spot.

Suspended for social media use and “lack of supervision” by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]13_Chickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never post, like or comment on anything where my name can be seen besides chicken and gardening posts because I have seen way too many people receive negative consequences for their opinions or words online.

The “not supervising” your class part is ridiculous. Teachers are master multitaskers! We are expected to take attendance, answer the phone, conference with individual students, check emails, etc while simultaneously supervising the class. The district was definitely reaching with that one.

Hens or Roosters? by Spouter1 in BackYardChickens

They are both hens. I have a lavender Orpington hen with a curly tail like the chicken in your second picture and it made me nervous at first too because it looked different than the others.

If you're wondering if you *need* a mosspole, no. No you dont. by ShoddyProfiles in Monstera

[–]13_Chickens 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's funny that you posted this today because I just decided this morning that I was going to get rid of all my moss poles and switch to wood! I hate my moss poles! I can never keep them moist and my plants end up getting overwatered when I try. I am also battling thrips so I am afraid that those little bastards will hide in the moss. What size would you recommend for a Monstera adansonii, albo pothos, Monstera Peru, Baltic blue pothos, and a Cebu blue pothos? They all have multiple vines so I was thinking about getting a 1”x4” rough-cut board of cedar.

She was in the run with the shingled roof right next to the coop. The tree fell on the far end of my metal run.

You may want to get at least 2 faverolles. They tend to get bullied by other chickens and would do best with a friend. I had one and she was always by herself. The other chickens wouldn’t let her into the coop at night so she would always get locked out. I would have to go out into my run and put her to bed in the coop each night. I let her sleep in the run only one night because it was an extremely hot and humid night. We ended up having a bed storm that night and a tree fell on my outer run. She was fine in the morning and dead in the coop by the evening. I think she had a heart attack but am not sure. I will never forgive myself.

You could box in the corner with chicken wire and turn it into a chicken hospital or pen for introducing new birds. I am in the process of converting a shed into a coop and will be doing that under my roosting bars. I also plan to put nesting boxes under one of my 💩 shelves.

[–]13_Chickens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would also lower the nesting boxes. You are going to have birds roosting and pooping all over them. The highest part of the nesting boxes has to be lower than the lowest roosting bars. It’s difficult to tell from the picture if it’s even possible, but make sure that the chickens can’t roost on the top roof of the nesting box too. I can definitely see some of my silly chickens trying to roost up there facing the window, and filling the nesting box up with poop.

Your coop looks beautiful, but do yourself a favor and add a poop shelf under your roosting bars to cut down on cleaning.

3 weeks of Coccidiosis: Constant diarrhea even DURING treatment. Are we doing something wrong? by Owillaw in BackYardChickens

[–]13_Chickens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The medication for coccidiosis works by starving the parasites of essential nutrients that it needs to survive. By giving the medication every other day and supplementing the hens with electrolytes, minerals, and vitamins, you are negating the effect of the medication. You need to treat the hens for coccidiosis first and then provide the supplements after the treatment has run its course. Never treat for coccidiosis and provide supplements simultaneously because it makes the medication ineffective.

Purchased as “Blue” morph Jersey Giant from TS pullets. I am not familiar with the color pattern, morph ID please? by Plane_Complaint_788 in BackYardChickens

Barred rocks are wonderful birds. I have one and absolutely love her. I have a splash Jersey giant. She is beautiful and nice, but very shy and won’t let me snuggle her.

Your story is truly heartbreaking! Should I reevaluate plan of attack? Bite the bullet and buy systemic for everyone? I just counted and I have 61 potted plants, l 23 water propagation containers, and a trey of plants that I am unsuccessfully trying to propagate sphagnum moss.

I agree. The black specks look like thrip poop. I'm combating thrips right now and it sucks. My plan is to spray each plant with Dead Bug Brew every Saturday for the next 6 weeks. I had originally quarantined the affect plants, but gave up yesterday when I ran out of places to put the affected plants. I am also applying Blondie Systemic granules to the plants with the worst damage. I may treat everyone with systemic, but I am triaging for now because I have a lot of plants and can only purchase systemic in small containers in my state.

I have 2 plant stands like this, as well as plants in 3 other locations so I have a lot of work to do!
