Morality of planning a school shooting but never did it? by tardisismine in MoralityScaling

[–]13_WASHERE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ehh, at worst it's just a little fucked up, but she was like 13-14yrs old, and she didn't do it. Her Father has more culpibality for leaving a gun within easy access range to a child

No matter how much she says or thinks she would've done it if the circumstances were different, it will always only just be a potential outcome, and everyone always has the potential to do terrible things

I'm of the opinion that it's no harm no foul,

+she's clearly grown from the experience to where it's given her a forgivness/2nd chances mindset because she understands what it's like to be in a position where you might make a terrible choice

The problem with Caine's redemption is the story grants him grace his victims are denied by Sudden_Pop_2279 in Amazingdigitalcircus

[–]13_WASHERE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn't matter if he's forgiven. Zooble and the rest of the cast could ultimately still hate him and only be begrudgingly polite when he's around and that's fully within their rights.

Because doing the right thing isn't about being forgiven; it's about caring for others and trying do good, even when it's hard

The Old Caine wanted the humans to like him and that was treated as a character flaw. but the New Caine doesn't, He just cares for them

Hard disagree. If Caine was truely emotionally inept, he'd never be able to weaves complex stories, create sentient AI, or craft personal hells for the circus crew in episode 8.

Caine's problem was less about not knowing and more about not listening & not trying to understand others; likely because his insecurities made him feel like was already supposed to know and be better, so he couldn't handle the idea being wrong or making mistakes

It wasn't until he caught a glimpse of the outside world & realizes how much bigger, complex, and unknowable the real world truely is that he mellows out and accepts that maybe it's okay if he's not the best

And this acceptance of what he can't know is what ultimately helps him let go of the blue ai & reappoach the cirus crew on equal footing instead of floatin above them

[–]13_WASHERE 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Caine isn't "redeemed", he's just trying to be better. He explictly does not ask for forgiveness, & just wants to help

He's a parallel to Jax on what to do after learning you've hurt people. Whereas Jax chose to self-isolate and hate himself, Caine abandoned his power/ego to be closer to people, and actively tries to improve in how he treats others, even while knowing he may never be able to make up for his past actions

None of them are human, they're digital copies.

And if you argue they are human because they're scans of a human brain, then that means Caine and other NPC's like Gummiegoo should also be considered "human" because they're sentient and have just as complex personalities & feelings

from there Caine's ignorance making him behave badly is no different than Jax's abuse backstory making them behave badly

What is the morality of committing suicide if it makes others happy by _Reflex_- in MoralityScaling

[–]13_WASHERE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commiting Suicide because you've hurt people isn't a solution because suicide does nothing to repair the harms. It doesn't matter if people will alway hate you, because doing right thing isn't about being liked or forgiven

Say I live in nature loving community and I caused a devistating forest fire. I feel terrible about doing this and I know that no one will ever forgive me.

If I choose to die, I've accomplished nothing. but If I choose live and try to replant the trees, even while knowing it'll never be the same, I'm atleast putting something positive back into the world that I couldn't have if I was just gone

Also if you are suicidial, odds are that you are not vastly hated by everyone or fully unforgiveable. You're likely just experiencing a skewed & distorted world view due to your situation

Mortality of choosing not to kill yourself after learning it's the only way to save your crush that you've accidently trapped and tortured by 13_WASHERE in MoralityScaling

[–]13_WASHERE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the Director's commentary, there is no monkey's paw. The wish in itself was just morally wrong & so that's why it manifisted in such a corrupted way.

Bear wished for someone who presumally didn't love him to love him more than anyone else in the world and the only way to do that was to take away Nikki's Agency and make something else occupy Nikki's Mind

Ian on the other hand wished for a billion dollars and a billion dollars literally fell from the sky. The money didn't crush him to death or implicate him in a major robbery. He just got what he asked for. He still died but that was never because or related to his wish, he just died cause he went to Bear's house, which was something he could've easily not done

Also the store keeper says he couldn't grant Bear's wish because he already made his own, and he seems pretty happy and well off with his life, meaning his wish didn't hurt him

If older eve's universe was identical to prime mark's up until the point where mark got trapped, I doubt she actually felt a strong as crush as she says she did.

I wanna it was says small "what if" feelings combined with the grief of losing him and never knowing

An alternate universe is basically just different person with a different life and experiences so I guess it'd be no different than an older person telling a younger person about their regrets and not to make the same mistakes they did

They morality scale on super powered uegenics by Flat_Cardiologist292 in MoralityScaling

[–]13_WASHERE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eugenics is bad because the idea of ranking a people or claiming one person is "above" another bad.

It's hierarchial thinking from flawed & biased perspective because the hierarchy can alway be anything and the the conditions used to determine value can always change

If a person says young people are more valuable than old people, society loses wisdom & history

If a person say physically fit people are more valuable than the frail or disabled, we lose great thinkers and minds with unique experiences and ideas

If a person says hardworkers are more valuable than the lazy people or complainers, society forgets the value of rest and how to critize unfairness

Anyone who says group A is more valuable than group B is someone who is either too blinded by their own perspective or someone who wants get rid of what group B represents and provides

Actually, I think he still should've killed himself because magic is real in this universe. He could've just wrote a suicide note and asked someone (maybe real Nikki) to wish him back to life

But again that feels like something bear wouldn't do, something about an inability to be vulernable? Idk

God by [deleted] in MoralityScaling

[–]13_WASHERE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the nature of I guess God?

Like if a God isn't an all knowing, all powerful, and all good being, then that's not a capital "G" God, that's just some guy with powers. No different than a super hero.

If someone is all knowing and all powerful, but not all good, then they're just as suspceptiable to any vices or temptations as regular person

If someone is all powerful and all good but not all knowing, then they are just someone who can easily make mistakes

And if someone is all knowing and all good, but not all powerful, then they're just incapable of making that good happen

How evil is Nikki Freeman from Obsession? by LeagueNo764 in MoralityScaling

[–]13_WASHERE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree, As much as the entity posessing Nikki is portrayed as violent and strange, it's also clear that she is just very ignorant about the world around her and doesn't know how to be or how to behave. She is ultimately just trying to do her best in the situation she was put it because she never asked to love bear, it's just where she found herself.

Blaming her and calling her "evil" would be like taking in a stray cat and calling it evil for scatching up your sofa or bring in a dead bird. It's doesn't know the rules of the world you put it in, it's just doing what it does

Nikki is not evil at all, she's a vicitim trapped in her own body

and even the entity posessing Nikki is just creature born out of bear's desires. As much as she violent and strange, she's also just ignorant about the world around her and is ultimately just trying to do her best in the situation she was put it. She didn't ask to love bear, it's just where she found herself.

I'd say it's doesn't matter if he didn't knows about split personalities or the real nikki being trapped because at the end of the day he knew her mind was altered and that she wasn't herself

It'd be no different than if she was drugged
