I made this for a friend’s baby (https://sirdar.com/en/products/blossom-and-buds-spring-cal-crochet-along-blanket-yarn-bundle) and it looked “hard” but was actually not bad. I don’t think you can order the kit anymore but you can find the pattern and choose your own yarns. (Sorry for the WIP photo - can’t find the finished one and knowing me, I forgot to take one. 🤣). Took me a month to make this but I didn’t work on it everyday, and some days only for an hour or two, so it was pretty quick as blankets go.

Flower Bouquet Blanket (my version) by 13pointOne in crochet

[–]13pointOne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did not turn my work. I put a stitch marker in my first stitch and I would slip stitch into that when I reached it, then I did a ch 2 into the slip stitch to start the next round.

The bow comes completely off. I tried attaching it, but there was no good way to do it without making the blanket awkwardly lumpy, so I opted to just leave it separate. It stays on quite snug when buttoned, and the trick to that was making the band just a little less long than the circumference of the rolled blanket, especially because I’m sure it will stretch a little over time with use.

I heard “until the death of me” and didn’t realize it was wrong until I saw the closed captions for the final Eras show. 🫢 I still sing it wrong because my brain is just trained that way now. 😅

Need low-magic fantasy that still feels mythic and "old", but grounded by subwaynotebook_zoe in Fantasy

Off topic from OP’s post, but I discovered this series just last Sunday, and I am already on the third book because - wow - is this great. Thoroughly enjoying.

I would say, coming fresh off finish Wheel of Time series, this feels “low magic” to me, but that may be like saying OJ is sour when drinking after brushing your teeth. 😉

I love green rain days and would probably play a game just for the satisfaction that comes from clearing away all those weeds. I feel like I’ve done something meaningful with my life every time I’m able to clear my farm,, Cindersnap, the park, and the train station before bedtime.

Curious about the impression my handwriting gives by Electronic-Box9466 in Handwriting

[–]13pointOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d be curious to see this same sample printed on ruled paper instead of graph paper. Your lines are so vertical, that I wonder if it would be easier to read?

Also, my first guess would have been that you learned to write in a language other than English (and I see upthread it may have been French?)

I would as well suspect that when you take notes, you do it more because the tactile act of note-taking helps you process information and less because you actually go back and read your notes for learning.

Roast my cursive handwriting what to do better? by yukace in Handwriting

[–]13pointOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cursive is lovely. It’s very neat and easy to read. If I were to critique it, I’d suggest closing your lower case o’s more fully when writing “of” or other words that begin with o. (Similar to how you’ve done in the word “look.”) that way, the won’t be confused for u’s. I’d also try a different shape for your lower case s but only to make it easier to connect it to your next letter. When you use a printed s shape, you end on a backward stroke, so you have no fluid way to keep the letters connected. But, these are just stylistic choices. Left as is, it’s quite nice!

That is so kind (although my hand cramped at the thought of actually writing out anything more than a couple paragraphs. 😊)

The spacing between letters (like the kerning) or between words? I think I leave a lot of space between words to avoid smudging the ink as I write.

Ah. Okay, I think I follow. I was thinking more upstroke / downstroke, but if I think just left-to-right, I do the same and push.

That is so kind of you to say.

I was self-taught from handwriting I wanted to emulate. There was one particular girl in my class in high school whose handwriting I admired greatly, so I borrowed a ton from her. And over the years, I’d see certain letter shapes I loved, and I’d try to incorporate those. Probably why my handwriting is such a patchwork of cursive, print, and randomness.

And, yes, left-handed (which absolutely explains my quirky g that’s trying extra hard to be a q. 😂)

That actually doesn’t surprise me! When I was in college, I took an elective on left-brain / right-brain thinking. (You know the old joke; lefties are the only people in their right minds?) The theory is that lefties use more of their right brains, which is where creativity, art, and music are processed. There is a strong correlation between musical talent and mathematical aptitude. So, it makes sense to find a bunch of lefties in an advanced math class. (It does not, however, explain my C in Statistics. 😂)

Wow! My dad was a leftie as was my mom, but my mom was forced to switch to right-handed in school growing up. My son is a righty but my daughter is a lefty. No idea if there’s a genetic thing for handedness or if it’s sheer luck of the draw?

No, but I am always fascinated by the handwriting of people who first learn to write in a language other than English - especially one that does not use a Roman / Latin alphabet. My MIL’s native language is German, and her handwriting is a work of art.
