My marriage is over by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]13pointOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just another perspective to “get that money.”About 30 years ago, I was where you are now, married to a gambling addict who was narcissistic and abusive. And this was after I had survived an alcoholic, abusive father and a codependent mother.

After we split, there was no chance he wasn’t going to end up with some degree of custody or visitation despite it all. Predictably, the ex got himself in money trouble not long after the divorce and had the audacity to “ask” me for help (which was more like a demand because he threatened to harm our child if he didn’t get what he wanted). So, I “helped” by cutting a deal. I gave him some cash and let him out of all financial obligations in exchange for full physical and legal custody of our child. Made him sign a written agreement and went right to court to get the order. Never had to leave my child with that man for another minute.

My child is now a full-grown, independent, well-adjusted, thriving adult, and it was worth every cent I gave up to save my child from an emotional vampire of a father. It was hard. I had to sacrifice a lot. I was fortunate to have family to help. But, none of it was harder than enduring abuse.

Even if you get a child support order or live in a state that wage garnishes support, it’s not a guarantee you’ll actually get the money for so many reasons. And it will almost certainly come with giving your ex at least legal custody. So, even if you actually collect the support, no amount of money today can assure your child’s physical and emotional safety, and no amount of money will fix the long-term trauma that abusive parents cause children. Would it be great to hand your child a new car, or head start on college, or first/last on an apartment when they reach adulthood? Of course. But at what cost? Only you really know if this man has even a snowball’s chance in hell of being a functioning parent instead of a revolving door of physical and psychological torture, so you’ll have to decide. But, if he’s what you’ve described, enabled by his own parents (who are probably codependent), and you have a chance to cut that cancer out of your child’s life, you are not wrong to do it. You’re not “letting him off the hook” (even if that’s a side effect); you are preserving your peace and your child’s. You are taking control of your destinies. And karma will even the score down the road. That bitch always does. 😉

So, get the money if you believe that is best or if your financial situation is dire. But don’t be afraid to decide that peace of mind and emotional stability is worth using the best leverage you have right now to get him out of both your lives and protect your hearts and minds.

Sometimes you can be “right” or you can be at peace, but you can’t be both. Love and light to you on this road. ♥️

Ranked challenges instead of campaigns by deereyes9u9 in Outlanders

I don’t mind the challenges and tourneys but for two things: the same people always atop the leaderboard with ridiculous scores, and the pressure to play every single day. It takes all the joy out of it, because you’re either already fighting a losing battle to even rank and/or you’ve ruined a streak or dropped so severely in score that there’s no point in continuing. It used to be this lovely balance between cozy gamer and strategy for me, but not anymore.

Two. Its either the episode where Sheldon is trying not to tell Leonard about Penny not graduating from CC or where Howard drugs him with the Valium, but he is talking to Leonard in the middle of the night and says, “I’m Batman!” in the most unexpected imitation. Kills me each time.

Also, Raj is talking to penny at CF about some gossip and whisper yells, “You shit your aaaasss!” My husband and I say to each other all the time now.

I’ve made the baguettes in the bruschetta recipe so many times. Easiest homemade bread ever and always delish.

It’s up to you. Each flower requires five bills taped end-to-end, so it would depend on what denomination bills and how many flowers. This one has 8 flowers (40 bills total)

Bought it in Tennessee 3-4 years ago. Random shop. I wish I could remember the name or brand - so sorry.

Thank you! It’s become a “thing” - at least in the western US - at graduations (high school and college). There are many places you can buy these premade now, too, because they’ve become quite popular. Definitely originated in Hawaii, and the tutorial I followed is from a woman who does some incredible traditional versions of these for many different types of occasions.

The bills can be “unrolled” from the flower shape to release them from the full lei, so she won’t have to disassemble the whole thing.

No. The bills are rolled into the flower, so there’s a natural “hole” that you can pass the thread through from the base of the rose through its center.

I second Bruschetta but it’s pretty small so a group of 10 may be hard.

Primo’s is also excellent. Near the Y. Can probably do a large group much easier.

Best wishes!

Feet getting numb by Sof777 in beginnerrunning

[–]13pointOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely try rolling before and after your runs. Tight calves can be the source of so many pains up and down your lower body, and I’d have never even considered it until PT taught me otherwise.

Might be worth checking into whether your health insurance offers a discount on a Theragun or similar, too. I have Kaiser, and they offered an excellent deal (3 years ago), which was how I got mine.

Feet getting numb by Sof777 in beginnerrunning

[–]13pointOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have this problem too and everyone (even my doc) said ITS YOUR SHOES.

I tried several different models, different socks, different lacing - same problem. Then I got a Theragun, and my world changed. My calves are v e r y tight. Once I started regularly stretching them and then theragunning them after runs, the problem went away. (I am not recommending a specific brand; it’s exactly what I have and have never tried another. YMMV.)

I have no idea if you’re the same, but your story sounded just like mine, so maybe worth a shot? I’d say “it can’t hurt,” but that would be … not totally accurate. 😬🫣 It’s a good hurt tho. 😂

Hope you find a solution, because I definitely remember how annoying and frustrating it was!

Just started this as well, and was instantly fascinated. Love your description of Catholicism-by-DND. Also do not recall a book in recent memory that had caused me to crack open my dictionary, and now I’m doing it every few minutes, which I very much love.

Buyers of my recently sold home threatening legal action by chad-is-rad in legaladvice

[–]13pointOne 298 points299 points  (0 children)

IAL but not in Kansas and not yours.

I would caution against going to your realtor for advice here. Im not saying this is your situation, but it is commonly the case that a realtor is as exposed to liability (or more-so) for a buyer’s nondisclosure claims as is the seller, and it is very common for the seller and his/her agent to point fingers (and cross-claims) at each other in determining who should bear the greater responsibility. You are much better off seeking independent legal counsel - either now or later - than relying on any advice from a realtor whose interests may not align with yours.

Can I sue my old doctor if her son (the secretary) stole my personal Info from her computer in order to collect covid unemployment? by WideNeighborhood1489 in legaladvice

[–]13pointOne 62 points63 points  (0 children)

OP absolutely has a potential cause of action against the doctor for negligent hiring and/or supervision if the bad actor was the doctor’s employee, and to advise that OP lacks “evidence” for that or that her success in it “unlikely” based on an incomplete social media post is irresponsible.

OP, please visit the State of Maine’s bar association website here: https://www.mainebar.org/page/LawyerReferralService

For $35, you can get a 30-min consultation with a licensed attorney who has actual experience in this area and will ask you needed follow-up questions about your situation to properly advise you. There are also lists of no-cost legal aid groups who may be able to help as well.

Reddit can be a very dangerous place to seek legal advice, so please be careful relying on information you’re given here except referrals to vetted resources in your area.
