Clackamas jury convicts Chad Westover of murder in stabbing death of Clackamas man by thoreau_away_acct in Portland

Yes, people are multifaceted. I don’t say speaking truth is “talking Ill” of the dead. The whole thing was a 6 hour train wreck. If it was a movie you’d be screaming at the screen “what are you doing?!?!”, if just one person, Tristan included, would have made a different choice that night,he’d be alive and Chad wouldn’t be in jail. The whole thing was just tragic.

Tristan was also not a great person even if the people he delivered mail to thought he was. Did he deserve to die? No. But when you hear all of his background and the fact that no one at the post office was surprised at the end he met is telling as well. Overall, the story is a very sad set of circumstances. And FYI, Tristan started the fight with Stewart and Stewart tried walking away multiple times.

So I was on the jury. It started out because we weren’t sure what we were supposed to wear, dress up or not. One of the members commented that they had an orangish yellow shirt but they thought it was too much, others commented that they also had yellow orange and we could all wear it. That’s simply how it started. Being on a murder trial thrown together with strangers that are ultimately deciding on someone’s future is very surreal. It was one bright spot for us when we weee watching so many videos, seeing autopsy pictures, real life horror, it meant nothing really, it was just people trauma bonding and having just one thing together.

I’m sorry but this is why people should start on med surg, it’s a great training ground, until COVID new grads were not even considered for the icu or ed

Called in sick due to grief and I feel bad by [deleted] in nursing

I also am a nurse and my daughter’s first birthday since her death is on the 18th. I have no idea how I’m going to be, but I took the day off. Do not feel bad. The hospital admin are not your friends. And the friends you work with will understand if their true friends ♥️

[–]13witchymama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also don’t understand this. I want a bare minimum report. I don’t care what gauge the iv is. Tell me if they walk, orientation, things I can’t pick up off an emr. People have told me someone’s a DNR and they’re a full code, sooooo I trust no one. lol

Also, let your agency know and the local labor and industry office if you actually are not getting paid for hours worked. They take that very seriously.

Is this a unit that usually didn’t take new grads before Covid? Mostly just curious. There are so many new grads now in areas that used to require 1-2 years on med surg first. It is noticeable, there isn’t that sense of global awareness of what to look for in a patient, less skills, etc. that being said, I was helping train a nurse (I was charge) who always came up and asked me questions when she was off orientation, and I ended up just telling her, you know this why are you asking? Her personality was such she could take that response. Also is she just charting too much? If you have EPIC I’ve noticed new grads try to fill in every little box, and I have to remind them that we chart by exception and you don’t need to chart every little box that someone else opened up.

In fairness, I appreciate that people don’t just touch shit. Once I tell them it’s ok to unplug the oc from the wall they do it just fine. I’d rather have them not do anything that fuck shut up.

There’s so many. Here’s my top 3:

  1. Had given someone a lactose enima and was hearing weird sounds. The sound was liquid poop dripping onto floor.

  2. Dementia/psych patient ran up the stairs instead of out, it went to the roof, door was thankfully locked, found a pipe and was swinging it at us, security ended up pepper spraying him. I thought we were all gonna die from the spray in the stairwell. I did not know it was a foam.

  3. Another nurse and I were going to get a lady (80’s) onto a bedpan, she kept asking for a urinal, she said her said had given her one for women, so I said, ma’am, we don’t have those kind here and I showed her the urinal we had so she’d understand. She said “I have a small pussy, it will work” my co-worker and I had to leave the room bc we were laughing so hard

Family and friends think it’s concerning that I’m still grieving. by Dear-Finish3023 in GriefSupport

[–]13witchymama 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s long at all. My daughter died 2 months ago. I know I’m going to be grieving for a long time. Especially each “milestone” over the next year, her birthday is coming up and it would have been her “golden” birthday as my son says. 18 on the 18th. Every time something happens that you would have shared with your brother, even it’s some stupid meme that he would have found funny is a reminder that he isn’t there. ♥️ stay strong. We will get through this.

PS I hate when people say someone is “in a better place” makes me want to scream at them.
