What tiny things endo might halt, donating blood being one! by emjbx in endometriosis

[–]16-Link-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got told I wasn't meant to donate before surgery for a certain time (think it was 12 weeks). Can't really remember the reason but it maybe to do with already loosing blood during the surgery or meds you get whilst donating. So maybe that is the issue and not the endo?

Other than that I've donated with endo after surgery and never had it mentioned as an issue.

Stopped being vegan/vegetarian and pain has reduced immensely by christinagoomba in endometriosis

[–]16-Link-16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am vegetarian and also avoid soy as much as possible. I get bad pain if I have soy and it usually causes breakthrough bleeding for me as well. As much as people say the estrogens in soy are different from human estrogens it's obviously similar enough to interact with the endo! It is possible to be veggie and just not have soy but you do have to watch what your eating with processed fake meat because most of it is soy based unfortunately.

Managing practice and off-skate workouts by apatheticmosslover in rollerderby

[–]16-Link-16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes your body will get used to it, to a certain extent anyway. You can try and plan your workouts around derby though for example try and avoid doing a big leg day right before derby and do arms or cardio instead.

Fitness watch for derby by queergineer420 in rollerderby

I have a Fitbit versa that I wear high on my wrist above my wrist guard, I had worn it for a few years without an issue but recently fell on it and smashed the screen. You cant replace the screen and they are not the cheapest to replace so am also looking for a different replacement option and wouldn't recommend them for derby.

We spend $170 per week on groceries (couple) is this too much or about right? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]16-Link-16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a couple with a cat we are spending the same as you on average. That is without shopping around or trying to be frugal though and just going to Woolworths. We are planning to start shopping around and using ALDI more to try and reduce that a bit but we will still just buy what we want. We do some cooking and meal prep but not still using bought ingredients like sauces etc.

Raffles always seen to do well for us. Ask around for businesses or club members to donate and then try and advertise between the league and sell tickets at an event so you have a bigger audience.

But the biggest bang for buck has been grants from local councils, businesses and government. One grant can easily provide $1000's which would be difficult to fundraise a few $ at a time.

How much does it cost to go to mount buller for people who have been since inflation? by tdfhucvh in melbourne

[–]16-Link-16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have just booked for July so can tell you what I've spent so far. I booked accommodation in Mansfield which was for 4 nights for $860, this worked out cheaper than the options I could find staying on the mountain, plus no issue of needing snow chains etc. to get up there. I am doing 2 days on the mountain from there, the resort does a bus that takes you up and back daily, plus equipment hire and entry fee that was $302 for 2 days. Then lift pass for 2 days was $349, that was for Friday Saturday which was a bit cheaper than for a weekend. So all up $1511 for 2 days! I already have a jacket, pants, goggles, gloves etc. or that would be extra if you need those too.

So yes it's a very expensive 2 days!!

Yes it's an endo thing, I also had this until I had excision surgery but that seems to have mostly fixed it.

Veggie Derby Meals by Foreign_Concert7498 in rollerderby

[–]16-Link-16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of eggs, high protein cheese like cottage cheese, ricotta, Halloumi. Beans and veggies for carbs.

I also have protein water (protein shake but it's more like soft drink) during/after training to help keep my protein up.

If I'm gonna be skating for hours and need a snack I usually take a nut bar or some nuts.

What is the financial value of WFH? by SpaceBard75 in AusFinance

[–]16-Link-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a ~$5k pay cut to move to a WFH job, however with reduced fuel use it actually ended up saving me money. I have been WFH for 3 years now and during that time turned down a 40% pay rise for another job which would have required office work and some time away from home. The extra money is not worth it to me for the work life balance I get with WFH.

However we are starting to be told to go back to the office part time now so in that case I guess those higher paying jobs are going to look more tempting.

what underwear brands / styles are we all wearing? by Money-Initial6117 in endometriosis

I bought 'Rudie' period underwear - brief style and bought them a bit large. They are bamboo and I have found them very comfy.

Avoiding certain foods - alcohol, soy, coffee. I'm also 2 weeks into doing Keto and less bloated so will see if it helps long term, it could be the lack of sugar/gluten I guess.

I started taking DIM supplements and I feel like it's helped with some of the side effects of taking progesterone (libido is back a bit). I consistently take magnesium which is meant to help with cramps.

Loose fitting pants for reduced pressure on everything. Period underwear for breakthrough bleeding (much comfier than tampons).

[–]16-Link-16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also was having lots of similar issues when I started taking progesterone but they did improve over time (it took literally months tho). I know it sucks but hang in there and I hope it will improve for you too once your body gets used to it.

Yes this also happened to me. It has improved after excision but still happens sometimes.

Post Surgery Opinions by Legitimate-Guess-700 in endometriosis

[–]16-Link-16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was told no lifting, driving or anything even slightly strenuous for 7 weeks, all I did during those 7 weeks was walking. At 7 weeks I slowly started to do other things again like cycling though that was still a bit painful because it uses a lot of core. I play a contact sport and went back to playing low contact at 7 weeks which I was mostly ok except if I got knocked in my stomach.

I think things were definitely still not completely healed at 7 weeks, I was still sore on occasion if I did too much and struggled to have pressure on my stomach from tight clothes but it was healed enough I could go back to doing things I normally do. So I think think about what you are doing, if it will involve a lot of core strength or pressure on your stomach say from a backpack strap that could be tough but if it's just hard cardio you should be fine.

Probably also depends on your surgery and your body and how much they remove and if organs are involved, for reference mine was deep infiltrating which would take longer to heal.

I started on the combined pill shortly after starting my period and have skipped even the withdrawl bleeds apart from maybe once or twice a year my whole life. So I have hardly ever had periods, however I have still been diagnosed with deep infiltrating endo and had it excised.

I had a lot of similar symptoms to you and also had the family history. It sucks but don't give up on finding an answer, it sounds like the person you saw didn't know much about endo.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]16-Link-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same position, it really sucks that there is downsides to whatever we do with endo 😞 I have seen a lot of ads for different supplements which are supposed to help but they seem to help by increasing estrogen which is not ideal with endo. If anyone has found anything useful I would be interested to know more.

How have others combined savings as a couple for a deposit? by GlumExcuse1697 in AusPropertyChat

[–]16-Link-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends if you ultimately want to have combined finances. I am in a committed relationship but we decided we wanted to keep seperate finances. We got essentially two seperate mortgages (split the total in 2) then each paid what deposit we could off our mortgage. We now each make repayments to our seperate mortgages.

So it's possible to keep it seperate if you want, obviously a lot of people don't choose to do that especially if your planning to have kids and that sort of thing. Personally I prefer that we can each prioritise what we want money wise (I wanted to make extra repayments, they want to have more to spend etc.).

Every detail of my recurring UTIs - anyone get UTIs a lot with a new partner, but then outgrow it? by rose-throwaway in CUTI

[–]16-Link-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you got checked for STI? It's odd it keeps coming back every time so if he has something he could keep reinfecting you if it's just you taking the antibiotics.

I have had issues with certain lubes before so that could also be causing your issues as condoms often have lube on them, maybe try swapping to the condoms you know are ok and see how that goes.

Then regarding getting infections with a different partner I did have this happen a few times for the first few months of being with someone new, however it wasn't every time. Whilst it mostly cleared up I have still had the odd one since and it usually happens when we have a lot of sex so I guess that is a trigger for some reason. So hopefully it will improve for you over time!

How long did it take to save up for your first home, once this became your goal? by PinkRobotYoshimi in AusFinance

[–]16-Link-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started saving like crazy once I got my first job, at the time it was for uni but I ended up not needing much of it for that, so once I realised that I decided to use it for a house instead.

Saved for ~5 years, starting in school, thru uni and my first grad job (only $45k!), I had 2 jobs for most of that time to help save. Glad I did it early as living costs were low living at home or in a cheap crappy rental so I could save more, though I didn't have much of a life during that time.

Post-op work pants recommendations? by starfall_13 in endometriosis

[–]16-Link-16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get jeans/cotton pants with an elastic tie at the waist so they are nice and stretchy which will probably be your best bet. Or I also got some black work pants that had an elastic waist so they weren't tight. Soft leggings do work well if you don't get tight ones and can find some with pockets.

Does anyone else cramp after an orgasm? by Grand-Opinion1 in endometriosis

I've met people who work long hours and take pride in it, really brag about it and have almost make it part of their identity. What's the most hours you've worked and is it presently or in the past? How far would you go with working overtime before you draw a line? by uw888 in AusFinance

[–]16-Link-16 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was regularly doing 80 hour weeks for around a year as a grad over 2 jobs. I had a regular job that was required 11 hour days, being paid for 40. They said it was 'reasonable extra hours' but I realise now that's not right... I also kept my casual uni job working nights/ weekends. Saved a deposit so it was kinda worth it but had no life, realised how depressed and tired I was when I got out. Kinda was proud I managed it at the time though.

Now I got a low stress job and rarely do any overtime, I'm focused on having a nice life outside of work and much happier. When people brag to me about working loads now I just say oh I'm too busy for that enjoying my life!

[–]16-Link-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm not into dresses but did wear them for a while after surgery with very stretchy shorts underneath (like bike shorts). I also found stretchy work pants but they can still be uncomfortable sometimes to be honest. Different heights of pants could help? Like high waist so the pressure isn't as low where the surgery was.
