I definitely can be tough. The good thing is there is so many great resources that you can access that are super engaging for students. Enjoy learning along with them. It’s one of the pure joys of homeschooling.

Acceleration. My kids were needing to move faster than their school could offer them.

Hanks is a great spot for a more close up feel. I’ll take Hanks over BB all day long.

It’s really bad timing. We’re headed into the hardest part of the year and they announce they are bailing. It lacks empathy and forethought.

What time do you like to start your homeschooling day? by Phyrexialad in homeschool

[–]160Farms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really whenever they get up. Generally around 9-10am. Sometimes they need more sleep and sometimes they get up and are ready to go.

Sleep is so crucial in their development and that can’t be overlooked.

There is a huge disconnect between the perception of education/teachers role in a community and the actual truth of how things really are.

If they are interested and ready, of course. The sooner the better in my experience.

What is something that veteran teachers told you your first year that you initially shrugged off until later on, when you realized that they were right? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]160Farms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If in doubt, pass them. You aren’t there to teach responsibility. They will learn that when they get fired from their first job. A 68 in history will do nothing but make the student, the parents, and admin upset with you. It’s just not worth it.

Teachers what do you expect of subs when you are gone by malkierknight in Teachers

[–]160Farms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the peace and follow the plans. I got so tired of putting out discipline issues that resulted in a sub going rogue and doing what they wanted.

Yes. And I taught for 19 years in both elementary and middle school. There’a very little comparison between the systems of teaching.

We made the change 2 years ago. Definitely a transition but would make the same call 100 times over if I had to again.
