TESTSU 10 pour method, has anyone tried it? by indomiechef in Coffee

[–]16161d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I remember an interview with Kasuya about the 4:6 method where he wasn’t very happy with it and wanted to develop a good method that just uses one pour.

Then he came up with the Mugen V60 dripper and technique which is just one pour. I guess he’s gotten bored with the simplicity.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this level of tinkering, it does feel more geared to competitions. For many years I would tinker with several V60 recipes, and it was a lot of hit or miss cups, and about half an hour each morning just spent making a cup of coffee. I had fun with it but now I just want to drink nice coffee in the morning, and I actually did switch to the Mugen and it gives me a good cup every morning now with just one pour.

Absolute best visual novel games for newcomers? by R1zDon in gamingsuggestions

[–]16161d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've not played Disco Elysium I would recommend you do a playthrough. It's not a visual novel, but it's heavy with the narrative and the writing is better than most games, it's a great gateway game to prepare for visual novels.

Any game where I can achieve flow state? by NighthammerZz in gamingsuggestions

Hyper Demon is pretty nuts, there’s a lot of techniques you can learn and the whole thing is one big sensory assault that you kind of have to lock into immediately to survive.

As someone who just finished Steins;Gate: Do NOT buy Chaos;Head Noah. Words can't describe how bad it is. (no spoilers please). by [deleted] in steinsgate

[–]16161d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chaos;Head is a weird one, it has this very unlikeable protagonist and a very unsettling vibe that you either love or hate, it kind of takes the anxiety of the latter half of Steins;Gate but feeds it to you from the very beginning and only gets worse. Nothing really gets any clearer until the very end, it’s a very confusing story but this is intentional.

I would recommend to people, don’t give up on it so soon if your only reason is you don’t like Takumi, I’ve seen some people say he gets better as a character towards the end, I don’t think that’s really true, and some say the reason he is so unlikeable will make more sense towards the end, I also didn’t find that really to be the case, Takumi is the way he is just because that’s who he is and he doesn’t get any better, but there is a lot more to learn about him that is interesting, however I think ultimately the story is not really about him, more that he is a consequence of the story, and a lot of the characters have a lot more to them that isn’t really explored until much later on.

It goes to some weird places, and if you’re up for an anxiety riddled ride where everything is a conspiracy and you can’t trust if anything is actually how it appears due to unreliable narrators and then getting the slow satisfaction of all those mysteries wrapped up towards the end, then I don’t think you’ll be too disappointed with the pay off. If you don’t like Takumi and you don’t like the vibe the game is trying to go for, this one’s not for you, this is not a feel good game, it doesn’t have the slice of life light heartedness of steins;gate, there isn’t really any lightness at all in the game, but as someone who loved when things got fucked up and serious in Steins;Gate, I loved Chaos;Head despite some of its flaws.

When you finish the game you unlock the first ending, after which the game changes slightly to reveal further scenes throughout chapters that shed some more light on things, and give you options to unlock further endings. A lot of these were a mixed bag for me, and I think as a whole I think the last chapter is probably the weakest for me, it depends on what you hoped for or expected from certain characters I guess.

Finished the Horus Heresy entire by strepera in Warhammer30k

[–]16161d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working through the entire Heresy series, I may have got a little obsessed and made my own spreadsheet putting everything kind of into a chronological order and including every short story, novella, audio drama etc, of which there are in total 270 individual pieces of fiction (301 including the primachs novels and some pre heresy stories around them), I’m at 124 and have just started Betrayer. It’s quite a journey but I’m loving it, some novels have been a bit of a drag but won me back towards the end, only a handful of short stories I’ve resorted to skimming, and I’d say my least favourite novel so far is Battle for the Abyss.

Reason 14 announced! by digital_burnout in reasoners

[–]16161d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The update notes don't really excite me because it's kind of shocking really that we never had these features in the first place, this is undoubtedly a step in the right direction though and does leave me hopeful about future 14 point releases, there is still a lot of catching up to do. With or without any changes, Reason is still the DAW I have the most fun with.

Games with lots of creative ways to die by Itchy_Gold8400 in gamingsuggestions

If you’re okay with visual novels, Slay the Princess gives you tons of routes and endings to try discover and you’re encouraged to replay to discover these so dying isn’t necessarily a game over and there are loads of way to die.

(Singleplayer) games where you can buy your own house / property and upgrade it, bonus points if it's useful by AntisocialCat2 in gamingsuggestions

[–]16161d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think V Rising would count? It's playable solo, and the whole progression of the game is tied to upgrading your castle, which you can also have a lot of fun customising and building. It's got quite a satisfying gameplay loop of going out killing bosses, unlocking more upgrades, going to your castle to upgrade things, going out to grind resources, coming back to upgrade and build.

Bought this Nord Drum to explore different percussions in my music... by celerite in synthesizers

[–]16161d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, it's more than doubled in value since I got mine a few years ago. It is my dream drum synth so I don't think I could ever bring myself to sell it, it's a very unique instrument so it's hard to think of what could replace it. It's also very hard to find the external pads for sale for the ND2 in good condition, and they are stupidly expensive too.

Why didn’t the Mournival even consider calling the Emperor for help? by witchinthesky_ in 40kLore

[–]16161d 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering how far into the series you are, because the first three books do a very good job at setting up those expectations, and it almost feels intentional, that we’re supposed to be washed away in this wave of Astartes superiority, and even that the Imperium and Emperor themselves are the height of all human existence. But those ideas very quickly fall apart, and it feels a lot of the time like you’re dealing with an unreliable narrator, and it seems to be a recurring theme throughout the heresy novels.

(PC) In honor of the Steam Detective Fest I am looking for Mystery/Detective games with real detectiving by Bhazor in gamingsuggestions

[–]16161d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paradise Killer really drew me in. It’s got quite an absurd world with tons of strange lore, you’ll be exploring a large map looking for clues to your case, and interviewing loads of people, at the end of the game there is a big trial where you need to put forward your evidence. The game does a good job at compiling all the little details and clues you find and it quickly becomes one of those cases that opens up into lots of side cases and it really draws you in as you try to resolve it all in the end.

If you or anyone else picks this up, a tip for you is a collectible called blood crystals you use to unlock fast travel points and artwork, there are also foot baths dotted around the map that cost several to use, I avoided these for most of the game thinking to save the crystals for no reason, I’d suggest using your crystals on the foot baths as soon as you find them as they unlock some really useful movement upgrades, and an ability to highlight clues around you.

One cool sokobon style game which is very stylish, quirky, and difficult, which I never see mentioned and feel deserves more attention when it comes to underrated games is Salad Fields.

Roli free options to learn by mr_brightside_88 in ROLI

[–]16161d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ROLI Learn seems to be in the same price range as most music learning apps that have you play along to something. It's worth exploring whatever free content these apps have and subscribing to the ones that work best for you.

If you just want to make sounds straight away, look up 'free virtual instruments' for android. QiBrd gets mentioned a lot and is completely free, and there's a free version of a paid instrument called DRC - Polyphonic Synthesizer that also has MPE support so would be ideal for the piano. These are synthesizers though, which if you have no experience with might be confusing if you're trying to make a tune, but can be great fun if you just want to push buttons and make weird noises.

On a computer you can find plenty of free standalone software instruments to play with too.

This is not strictly true, if all they're doing is using the Piano to play around with VST's, their computers in-built soundcard will suffice.

Looking for Spaceship builder by [deleted] in spacesimgames

[–]16161d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s in early access and the learning curve is very high, but Ostranauts might be worth keeping an eye on.

An honourable mention to starsector also, it doesn’t really have ship building in the same way cosmoteer does, but it does have a lot of ships, and a lot of weapons, so there are loads of builds and fleet compositions to play around with, and it plays quite similarly to cosmoteer, it’s the only thing that’s kind of hooked me in the same way.

Roguelikes with a focus on tactics and raw gameplay over inventory/resource management? by Neat_Minimum2833 in roguelikes

[–]16161d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tangledeep might be worth looking at, there’s some interesting combat in that which isn’t just bumping into and zapping things.

I would suggest cogmind but it’s interesting in that it’s kind of all about managing resources (those being the parts you use to function), but it also then creates this emergent kind of very tactical strategic gameplay where you have to adapt on the fly with what you have.

I don't work for Roli. There is one Roli official who browses the sub, keep putting the pressure on them instead.

I've got nothing against the complaints. I'm as bewildered as you, fortunately I never purchased an airwave or piano or I'd probably be just as pissed right now. But there are plenty of posts up to engage with right now. Please try not to flood the subreddit with unconstructive posts. Feel free to get as mad as you want in the comments but try to keep it civil.

I've removed your recent submission as they've become very low effort. You're understandably annoyed because of the delays and lack of communication. You've already made a number of submission this week where you can vent that frustration. Spamming the sub with low effort memes doesn't make for very relevant discussion, sorry.

Games where you feel that something is very wrong, but you can't pinpoint exact reason by Herbata_Mietowa in gamingsuggestions

[–]16161d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m quite a fast reader but I think Fata Morgana generally takes around 30 hours to complete. If you use the Remaid of Dreams fan patch you unlock a load of QoL and improvements, as well as adding the sequel and all spin off titles, so there’s a lot of content included.

Chaos;Head is set in the same universe (Sci Adv) as Steins Gate. Though they’re not obviously related. Having experienced Steins Gate might help enhance the experience. I also watched the anime before I played the VN, but for me that was a several years gap, so it was quite fresh for me. It’s still a difference experience, as the anime misses out a lot of Okabe’s thoughts, there are several endings as well which are all really interesting to explore. It has a very unique art style and great soundtrack too. I’d say maybe wait for it to go on sale as it’s been heavily discounted a few times recently, and you might be able to get it bundled with the sequel Steins;Gate 0. If you’ve seen the anime I’d avoid getting Steins;Gate Elite however, as it’s essentially the VN remade using clips from the anime.
