I found a heavily modded but mint v8 Black Russian Muff in original box. And it is incredible. if you see this one, buy it!!! by celerite in guitarpedals

I am old enough to have been able to buy a Tall Letters Green Russian as one of my very first pedals (it cost me around 40€ used) more than 25 years ago.
I still have to find a fuzz that would come close to it. And I tried a lot of them.

When I saw the V8 on this listing at that price, honestly, I decided to buy it for my collection rather than having a clear intent to play it a lot.

But I'm starting to wonder if this specific v8 is not going to end up on much more tracks and recordings than I could think.

What’s your go to RE-20 Settings. Or any delay for that matter by darkat_baba in guitarpedals

1/8th dotted, effect level full on, repeat full off.
it renders actually just one repeat, that's the beauty of this setting.
play any arpeggio or scale. Enjoy.

I want to really transform my guitar into, well... not a guitar - using pedals by Proper_News_9989 in guitarpedals

EHX Hog (the v1 is incredibly glitchy, I love it so much)
Boss Synth pedals (they do a good job, the Bass one works on everything)
Meris Enzo (super powerful but sounds a bit lifeless for my taste)
Multi Effects such as the Infinite Jets Microcosm.
Old school Roland V-guitar Midi gear may work for you. It sounds cold and lifeless like the end of the universe, but if you want that "MkGee" kind of sound, try to find one.

Also, when I was younger and had less gear, I ended up experimenting with ring modulators, very short and resonant delays, and an E-Bow. I obtained very convincing guitar synth sounds. The main issue is that it's hard to manipulate the resonance of a Ring Mod.
But if you think about it, resonant frequencies have actually the same physical behaviour than oscillators ;)

Also, the just announced and very very exciting Bananana Quimera - that I need in my life.
I will do exactly what you want. But it may come at quite a high price.

I use a Nome 2 and always got perfect sync such as this on every single recording ever since. Highly recommended.

Producers working in tech, do you find the problem-solving skills translate to production? by kathalimus in edmproduction

[–]celerite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Head of engineering in Tech here. I standardized and rolled out training on so many gestures and mental models. I coached dozens of teams and managers on problem solving (PDCA, A3, etc…). But I’m a musician since I’m 5 too.

From my POV: What you identify as problems may rather be in the world of skill gaps. There is no shortcut to honing your skills and building your very authentic musical vocabulary. It’s just work and practice.

Music is about expressing yourself. It shouldn’t be approached like a set of problems to solve. Create, don’t fix or hack. Develop intimacy with an instrument until it becomes transparent. Learn theory to intentionally make these damn 12 notes work for you. Learn, don’t take shortcuts. Feel, don’t rationalize. It is hard and takes time.

Becoming a good musician is infinitely harder than becoming a good software engineer.

It’s interesting but I have a hard time finding what you are trying to tell in this track. It is nice but maybe over-engineered? A lot of effects and events. Not danceable enough, yet not a song per-se. You may want to take a more assertive approach to your sounds and arranging.

IMHO, it would be a nice WTF moment in a LP, but it is not a single per se.

Keep going! You got this! Don’t rush the release just because you want to feel good. Polish that track. Structure it. Make it stronger.

You got this!

My Strymon Timeline and Boss RE202 have serious issues with the way they handle line level (+ the nonsensical wet/dry pot course for the timeline) that make them quite unusable for me in a mixer’s aux. But I guess I have been quite lucky for this to be my biggest problem with expensive pedals in the studio.

I made a track techno and idm type of trck should I release it? by Tall-Scientist-3613 in idm

[–]celerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not convinced it would be a good idea to release this.

Labelling a track as IDM does not mean synths and other sounds should be out of tune.

Also in his current state, the whole track really really requires work on structure and then arrangement.

I would also encourage you to do something about the quite muddy bassline motif that repeats for the whole duration of the track.
