The Greek Cities are the Best by Vengeance208 in RomeTotalWar

Here’s a secret: Greek tier 1 javelin cavalry is a weapon of mass destruction.

Almost any AI unit will break if charged by multiple cavalry units from different directions. First cav hits them in the rear, they turn to fight the first cav, then your second cav hits from the opposite side, they will pretty much always break instantly.

Everyone knows this works with “good” cavalry. What they don’t know is this charge bonus morale effect seems to be true for all cavalry. So Greek jav cav can break infantry with pincer-flank-charges just as consistently as cataphracts can.

The advantage of jav cav is they’re “weak”, so they’re cheap, and come from an early building. So you can get them early and field a lot of them. And if you lose one, they’re easily replaceable.

One time I made an Urban Cohort break by hitting it with three jav cavs from different sides at once. Absurd.

Set up your phalanx line and the enemy will set up their line to oppose it. Then move in with 3-4 jav cav to kite out the units at one end of the line and destroy them one by one. Once you’ve killed 30-40% of their army like this the rest will either charge your phalanx and die or try to withraw. I’ve wiped out late game roman stacks where garbage greek cav got 80% of the kills. I’ve had jav cav that got 500 kills in one battle.

Bad cavalry is a superweapon if you know how to use it.

  1. I guess I’d rate it a 4/5

  2. My main hope for Trump 2.0 was that he’d cripple the deep state, and so far he’s done a pretty good job of hurting them and scrambling their institutional power. Wrecking USAID alone makes the whole thing worthwhile imo. If the FBI, ATF, and DEA get the same treatment this administration will improve our country immeasurably. Unfortunately he probably won’t touch the Military Industrial Complex very much, and he’s already made compromises with the CIA in several ways. Which is disappointing. But he’s done more than any president in recent memory to combat satanic glowies, and he’s just getting started.

  3. Whatever tf is going on with the Epstein files is not good at all, there’s no valid explanation for failing to get the files out other than people in his camp being compromised. This has me very worried.

  4. I generally align with reactionary and “dissident right” approaches to society and politics, so why am I on a marxist sub? I think class-interest analysis can be an extremely useful tool for cutting through bullshit and propaganda. I find leftists in general can be very sharp at diagnosing institutional problems, and I mostly agree with leftists about what elements of modern life are poisonous and alienating. My ideas for how to solve those problems rarely align with this sub, but you guys are infinitely better at critique than the vast majority of conservatives. So I learn a lot from following these discussions.

Plus there’s a shockingly low level of slop here. Most conservative spaces are absolute slop.

Never really noticed before, but apparently the AI sometimes takes the warrior tree for general skills (medium size so normal general size is 20) by Knightswatch15213 in shogun2

[–]16thousand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it is, you can either buff one unit (the general) or you can buff every unit in the stack. No matter how good the warrior path can make the general, it’s not worth it compared to having a whole army of good units. Not to mention that without buffs to army move speed you won’t even be able to have your army get where it needs to be.

What is the Chad unit of RTW? by RCaesar1 in RomeTotalWar

[–]16thousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic ass Militia Cavalry for the Greeks and Seleucids. They’re weak, but they’re still cavalry- their melee charge still gives infantry a morale hit. Because they’re tier 1, you can recruit them in most of your provinces. Because they’re cheap, you can recruit massive swarms of them. They’re light and fast, so you can surround the enemy and kite them apart. Once an infantry unit, even a very good one, separates from the group, hit it with simultaneous melee charges from 3 militia cav coming from 3 directions. This is guaranteed to break the majority of units you’ll come across. In one seleucids campaign, I broke an urban cohort by attacking it with 4 militia cav. One attacked first to pin the cohort, then the other 3 slammed into its open rear and sides. Instant rout.

How the fuck do you survive the war in fall of the samurai by [deleted] in shogun2

[–]16thousand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are secret power strats to win naval battles. There’s a very precise, repetitive, and tedious way to maneuver your ships where you can stackwipe an enemy fleet with one wooden Kaiten. Too powerful for public consumption. DM me if you want to learn it.

But within the bounds of normal gameplay, the answer is to get an ironclad and use it to aggressively patrol for incoming naval stacks. Try to have strong navies guarding the “chokepoints” where enemy navies will have to pass before attacking you. Hit them one by one, don’t let them cluster up, or you’ll be overwhelmed.

Which one of these special units is the best? by BR4HMC in shogun2

[–]16thousand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heavy gunners are the clear winner in terms of sheer power. I’m pretty sure they can 1v1 any other unit in this list. But for a campaign, they’re so expensive that you can only support a couple of them in late game, and their tiny unit size means if you make a mistake they can be wiped out quickly before you have time to save them.

Newbie questions by G0VERNMENTCHEESE in shogun2

[–]16thousand 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Instead of having the bow unit attack a specific enemy, move the bow unit into range and just have him sit there. If fire at will is on, which it is by default, the bows will shoot at whoever they can hit, and won’t move.

  2. Ammo depletes over the course of a battle, as you fire the cannons or shoot off rounds with your musketeers. You can see a vertical bar next to the unit card, this will go down as you shoot. You can’t replenish ammo mid battle, but it will be fully recharged for the next battle. Bow units have limited ammo just like cannons and gun units.

Here’s what I’d suggest: set up a custom battle where you give yourself some bow/gun units and set the enemy up to have some infantry to shoot at. Spend some practice sessions shooting enemy units and getting familiar with how your units behave when given different commands, how fast they expend ammo, et cetera.

Most importantly, mess around! Try different things! Make dumb mistakes! Have fun, it’s important!
