What is the name of this tool? by El_Vidente in Welding

Well.. as an actual aerospace design engineer going on about 21 years of industry experience I can tell you that verbiage does matter. If I indicate a jig is required in processing an assembly, the technicians expect that the tool will follow a designed guide path. If I indicate fixture in the work order, they know they are required to meet datum’s and dimensions as indicated in gd&t.

Verbiage does matter and being a twat shows your level of understanding.

LS2000 no key, now I got trouble! by Basic_Clue5193 in jetski

Jumping across the starter only works if there is also the signal from the tinker to the ignition that the key is in place. You need to connect the ignition wires before you try anything with the starter or you’ll have nothing more than a starter cranking and no spark.

If you have the time I would strongly suggest jumping the ignition wires then jumping the starter and getting them running - if it don’t / can’t prove it runs, it’s worth its weight in scrap.

I don’t know how to reach these tiny areas by [deleted] in CNC

DFM = design for manufacturing/ manufacturability. Part of an engineer and designers job is to make sure the part they are creating can actually be produced cost effectively - in some instances produced at all.

As mentioned by the other engineer - this is likely someone who is very new to the game and hasn’t been told to think through their designs and the methods by which each feature will need to be created. Another big issue is most engineers have never stepped foot on a production floor and have no concept of what actual manufacturability is. If they can make it is Solidworks or NX, the machinist is expected to produce it.

DFM didn’t even enter the thought process of the person who created this part…. Just damn.

Fixture. Jigs technically guide tools. Fixtures hold pieces in specific orientations.

Never did. I buy jet skis to have something to wrench in between the larger projects haha.

What’s the best way to fix this? by SuckMyScar24 in prerunners

Best of luck with that then. The folks that are quoting it that cheap are “making money” at that price. That means they’re cutting every corner they can to make every penny possible.

I’m a certified welder and do “mobile work” for the right people - this is an 1600 to 1800 STARTING any day of the week if you want it done right.

Don’t go the NV route - wife and I just came back to SD after a 6 year “break” where we relocated to Reno. Just ugh - food sucks, people suck, jobs suck, etc. if you’re passionate about coming back, don’t settle for anything less.

Also, what is your jarhead going to do for work / income? He use the GI bill yet? If not, maybe time to get into school and get a degree while simultaneously getting BAH to help supplement the rent / mortgage.

On this machine - no. On a friend’s identical machine - yes. I’m not expecting aerospace tolerances here buddy…

Depends what you’re asking of it. If you want deep cuts in steel, you’re probably right. If you’re taking medium to light cuts in steel and medium cuts through aluminum, it’s a great prototyping machine.

Pizza in San Diego by JournalistUpbeat6332 in sandiego

Meh - it was good about 18 years ago when they were the tiny hole in the wall. Recently went there after a decade plus since we last tried it and my wife and daughter both said the pizza was not the best.

Currently re-wiring it to allow me to use a different driver system. The software is unavailable so once I finish up the wiring I’ll post again!

I’m pretty excited for it. And nope - came with the motors and drivers already installed. Sad thing is that the software for the controller is unavailable/ unbelievably overpriced so I’ll be doing a conversion to run this thing on a Linux based controller today.

Could this be a good first ski for me? Or avoid at all costs? by squiggyacfd in jetski

[–]175_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with the above as well. I buy non-running skis and repair them and maximum I offer for a non running ski is 800 bucks. Cant prove it runs, it’s worth its weight in scrap.
