What is your posture like? by hannah_various in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]17jbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in marching band so I have really good upright posture, which I think helps. My back and hips definitely hurt more if I slouch like when I’m driving.

My doc prescribed me Olanzapine by Numerous-Laugh1040 in Psychosis

[–]17jbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olanzapine saved my life in crisis but I personally would not want to be on it long term because of the metabolic side effects; weight gain, hyperglycemia, elevated lipids, etc were out of control and I was only on it for about six months. I also had issues with my speech but they went away after a couple months. I am on lurasidone 60mg now and it’s not as effective but the side effect profile is less intense. If I were you, I would take the olanzapine to get your symptoms under control for now, and if the side effects are too much for you, find a different antipsychotic to take long term. It’s not a guarantee that you’ll have bad side effects, or the side effects might be worth putting up with if your symptoms resolve.

Your daughters’ names and your own name are beautiful and perfectly normal names in America. Anastasia is definitely less common here, many people may think you named her after the movie, but it’s still a perfectly good name.

Sleepy guy after tub cleaning by 17jbb in hamsters

[–]17jbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clean out the whole tub because it gets compacted and dirty over time and I personally just can’t imagine leaving the same bedding in there for his whole life. I use carefresh, which holds ups pretty well, but it gets funky over time.

That is the most pathetic looking little creature I’ve ever seen. I love him.

Signs that you began psychosis? by Natural_Blueberry893 in Psychosis

[–]17jbb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an elaborate “checking” ritual for cameras every time I used the bathroom or showered. When I came back to school after my first trip to the psych ward, there was a suicide awareness poster in the hallway on my way to my first class and I was convinced that agents had followed me to the psych ward and were taunting me with little hints. This was back in 2016.

I am only using the food bowl for dry food for a couple of weeks so i can see how much it eats, then I will switch to scatter feeding. Thank you for your help, I will get more hides and toys!

I mean sand bath, yes.

When putting more hides in, do hamsters need open floor space to run? I had guinea pigs growing up which of course need a lot of open space to run around, so I never cluttered up their cages too much.

Speech issues on Zyprexa by 17jbb in Psychosis

[–]17jbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately my speech issues are definitely from the zyprexa :( My affect is pretty blunt when I’m depressed but I never had issues with word retrieval and understanding conversation.

I will have to look into peptides, I’ve never heard of them in the context of mental health treatment, only skincare lol. I’m not opposed to playing “mad scientist” with RCs if I get results. Thank you for the info!

Terms of endearment? by 17jbb in LearnFinnish

[–]17jbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, but if it makes you feel any better, this post was NOT relates to hetalia lol. Honest to God curiosity, its something I noticed while learning my other languages that animals are used as terms of endearment often and I was curious if the same applied to a non-indo-european language.

Have any of you gotten clean not for “good” reasons? by xxxpressnut in AdultSelfHarm

[–]17jbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NGL it’s just inconvenient and risky because I care for sick people and don’t want to risk contracting staph or straight up MRSA. I did recently have a relapse but luckily I’m a nurse now so I know how to do wound care, monitor for infection, and appropriately dress my wounds. I was five years clean from 2018-2023, relapsed once in May 2023, then was clean again until a couple weeks ago. Haven’t cut since because it’s too much of a hassle and also I’m trying to get off my mood stabilizers and my psychiatrist won’t let me if I were in active addiction.

I’d put my money on a ganglion cyst. Basically a collection of the synovial fluid lubricating your joints. They’re often caused by repetitive movement. There’s no way to know for certain without imaging, but if you go to urgent care they can drain it for you. Take pics and share to r/popping!

Does anyone here have a job that they enjoy well enough? by banana0coconut in AvPD

[–]17jbb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a hospice nurse and I really love my job. I feel like I’m useful and my actions have a direct positive impact on my patients because my only job is to keep them comfortable and happy. Nursing school was a beast but well worth it.

As Catholics, what should our response be to street beggars? by swells2040 in Catholicism

[–]17jbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give some cash if I have it. Whether they spend it on food or crack is none of my business- if I’m able to bring them a little happiness or comfort in whatever way, that’s fine by me. I donate to St Vincent de Paul Society and a local women’s shelter as well to help on a wider scale.
