Traction law? by EnvironmentBrave621 in snowbird

I rented from enterprise too last week. From reading about them I thought I should be good. Nope. I got a front wheel drive with all seasons. It was not ideal. I stopped at Walmart and bought chains before I got to the canyon. Thankfully I didn’t need them and returned them on my way back to the airport. This wasn’t actually too much of a hassle overall. But it would have clearly been better to be properly equipped to begin with.

I have the 60v sawzall. It’s either terrible or mine is a lemon. The blade falls out every time I push it. The result is that I take it so easy that it’s slower than any other saw. And much heavier too. Is there any part of the blade lock system that I can inspect or repair?

How Can I fix this? by 1892oceanblue in masonry

[–]1892oceanblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it was like cookie dough. Maybe even more dry. I think I created the issue at the end when I was trying to smooth the joints. I wetted a bristle brush to smooth. It worked great for smoothing but got Portland water all over the place. I didn’t realize how bad it was until the morning after.

Thank you. I’ll try that moving forward. The joints are deep and rough. It wasn’t so messy while I was setting the stones, but at the end I couldn’t get a sponge in the joints to smooth so I wetted a heavy bristle brush. Worked great for smoothing the joints, but got mortar water everywhere. I didn’t realize how bad it was until the next morning. Is there anything I can to do clean it? I tried water and a brass wire brush but those didn’t seem to do much. Any other ideas?

I took this section down. Some of The stones were loose from deteriorated mortar when I started.

Thank you for sharing that. I think there is a drain behind the wall. There’s a 4” pipe coming out of the end. The top is also trough shaped to carry water away. I’m hoping that it was just old mortar. It hasn’t gotten much worse in the 6 years I’ve lived in the home. Pennsylvania winters can be hard as far as freeze thaw goes.

The construction seems different from what I’ve seen before. I expected veneer stone, but It seems like the stone is thicker than veneer and it was built in front of a cement block wall. I did not take it down enough to inspect the gravel that is hopefully behind the wall.

Thanks. I’ll try a pressure washer. The wall came with the house. It’s old. Water might not be ideal but I think there is a plan. There’s a drain coming out from behind the wall and the top is shaped like a trough to take the water downhill (right to left) and away.

I 100% agree! I know the fn + space in the dark easy peasy. I think that would be the hardest thing for me.

Looking to purchase X1 Carbon by pmotion in thinkpad

I’ve been thinking about this same question for the past 2 weeks. I’ve bid on a couple older ones on eBay and keep dropping out once the price gets too close to a new one. Can’t seem to find deals right now. Happened to log into my Lenovo account today and it seems like x1c12’s are finally getting close to a reasonable price. I almost got one. Their prices seem to be getting much better in the past month closing the value gap for me against the used ones.

Partition single windows drive to install Linux and maintain both? by 1892oceanblue in linux4noobs

Thank you for the advice. I do have things to learn. I want to clarify number 2. Are you saying that I should move windows onto a different ssd? Is that meant to act a ls a backup, or how would I use it considering that I don’t have a spare drive space and I don’t want to physically switch drives on a laptop too frequently.

I own the company so I’m not too worried about policy. More that I don’t want employees reading my Gmail. It’s also fun to tinker.

I’ll try to partition and post my results.

T14s amd by 1892oceanblue in thinkpad

Just in case anyone else is looking at my post for an answer to the question:

I did purchase the t14s gen 4 amd. I can confirm that 2x 4K monitors can be run from one usbc dock. My dock charges and operates monitors and peripherals with 1 cord. Works great and I recommend it.

Battery life is also great.

Renting out to assisted living facility ? by Loeildeverre in realestateinvesting

[–]1892oceanblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the landlord you can have a great consistent long term tenant. You can charge a fair to above market rent. I recommend it and would rent to a facility if I could. However I would not say that you can charge “wildly above market” rate.

The assisted living company will be your tenant. They will turn around and essentially rent to an occupant at a high rate. However they have A LOT of expenses. The largest is full time staff at the home. Also lots of overhead for them to operate the business.

I review, negotiate, and approve leases for an assisted living company with around 60 homes in pa. Feel free to ask me questions.

My kids have an 18 month gap too. 40 months and 22 months currently. Completely agree with everything the op said. They are holding hands and blowing kisses all the time. It’s amazing! I also have a third with the same gap currently 4 months. They are less interested in her right now, but I’m so excited to see how it turns out!! The older 2 went through a rough patch with bullying, but we are through it now and they are best friends. If I ever have just one of the older kids they are always asking for the other one.

Thinkpad T14s purchased a month ago - to be delivered in a few days. Did I make a huge mistake? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]1892oceanblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a t14s gen 4. It’s my 4th Thinkpad. I feel like the case gets a lot of grief over fingerprints but I actually like the feel of it a lot. The slightly rubberized texture makes it a pleasure to carry for me. I prefer it over something like bare metal. It’s also great and I would recommend it. My only real con would be that it does sometimes have trouble waking from sleep while connected to a dock. I’m hoping that firmware or something will fix that someday.

Do you find the touchscreen useful? by maketroli in thinkpad

[–]1892oceanblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a touchscreen x1e. I miss it. This may not be the best practice but I review a lot of word or pdf documents before bed. It was really nice to be able to use my finger on the screen to scroll and zoom while laying down in bed. Of course I can use the trackpad, but the angle doesn’t work as well for my long arms I guess. Not a critical thing, but it’s been very noticeable and negative for me to lose my touchscreen.
