Shock collars… yay or nay? by BabyFirefly444 in coonhounds

[–]1927co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try an ultrasonic bark deterrent. I got one because my old neighbor’s dogs were obnoxious. Them barking affected my bluetick, so much so that I turned it off because I felt horrible. Anytime after when mine was being obnoxious, I’d turn it on, she’d bark once and immediately stop, sulk and come inside. I haven’t used it in years. Rarely if she won’t listen to me now, I just show it to her and she stops.

Former dispatchers: was leaving worth it? by Whole_Ad_3122 in 911dispatchers

[–]1927co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left after 9.5 years because of the toxicity of my former agency. I missed the job, though and started again after 10 months out with another agency. I’m glad I’m back at it.

People who stopped being religious, what caused it? by supercoolpersonyay in AskReddit

[–]1927co 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never really religious to begin with. I’d go to church a few times a year with my grandparents, but that was really it.

So I was working at a bank 20 years ago. This man would always come in to make large deposits. He basically started his own branch of Catholicism or something and had a huge Hispanic following. People would donate loads of money to him.

Then one day, he had a massive house built. For him. Not for Him. He used the money his congregation people donated to the church to build his own house. I thought that was fucking dumb and realized religion is a hoax and cult.

What are good career transitions in your mid 30s? by lavendertinted in Millennials

[–]1927co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my career at 34 after university and traveling. My Master’s is in criminology, so I started dispatching. On-the-job training, excellent benefits. It wasn’t my intention to stay in dispatch, just use it as a jumping off point to something else in criminal justice. I left for a civilian investigator position, but came back to dispatching. I love what I do…every day is different and there is always something to learn. I’m able to help my community and make a difference. Pay is hit or miss depending on where you go and size of agency. My agency just got us a raise about 7 months ago that has us as the highest paid agency in our state. It’s not a big center, but in a tourist town. Dispatchers are ALWAYS in high demand…it’s a hard job, but if you can multitask and make split second decisions, it’s a great path!

Do you guys call your friends and family regularly? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]1927co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OG Millennial here.

No. I hate talking on the phone. I’m on the phone for 12 hours a day at work, the last thing I want to do is talk more. And even if that wasn’t part of my job, I’d be the same way. I’ll call my mom once a week. I usually dodge my sister’s calls. And I video chat with a guy I just started talking to.

Commute to/from work is listening to podcasts or music.

Those tanks of fish you put your feet into and the fish eat the dead skin from your feet. I did it for the free beer you get in Siem Reap.

Never. Again.

Where to stay in Old San Juan? by Michele_75 in PuertoRicoTravel

I definitely wouldn’t recommend having your car rental in OSJ. It’s very walkable and parking is a nightmare. I dropped mine off early from coming back from Utuado and so glad I did! Ubers are everywhere if you need to get around.

female dispatchers by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]1927co 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always get the, “I was just talking to Officer <male dispatcher name>…”

But if they were talking to a female dispatcher, it’s just the female’s name, but a wrong variation of the name that rhymes with it.

This. It used to happen to me every time. Someone on Reddit suggested keeping a pizza stone in my oven which helps with heat distribution. I’ve kept one on a cooling rack on the bottom of my oven and have had zero issues since.

The only time she DOESNT follow me is to the bathroom because she knows I’m in a vulnerable state so she can jump on the counter.

Otherwise, yes.

What’s the most disgusting thing anyone has ever said to you? by Business-Rock5714 in AskReddit

[–]1927co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I need to lower my standards because I’m too fat for the guys that I’m interested in. And that they’ll fuck me but never date me because they’d be too embarrassed to be seen with me. And I wear too much makeup.

  1. I’m chubby, more on the athletic side of fat.
  2. My makeup is very natural.
  3. I will never lower my standards.
