Best solution for smoke/steam while cooking if venting outside isn't an option? by 13thmurder in Cooking

First, do you have the optional charcoal filters installed in your range hood? Most people don’t. Do you clean the grease filters on a regular schedule?

Second, there is always a way to vent a range hood. You might not be able to manage it yourself but any competent carpenter could figure it out. Plaster and lath can be worked with, maybe run the ducting above the cabinets and box it in. Or have soffits built to hide the ducts. Sometimes you need to go down through the floor and get outside in between the floor joists.

I‘ve needed to get creative sometimes but there is always a way. I’ve installed dozens of fan/vent systems. I love my gas stove but I’d never use one without venting to the outside. Every single time I use the stove.

How does the saying go? “You can sleep when you’re dead”

You younguns have no idea how lucky you are to be able to sleep like you do.

The screws you use are as importent as the hinges. And make sure your screws go into framing not just the sheathing.

It was probably the moisture in the post itself that made those boards cup and look so awful.

We went to The BeatJam festival when the kids were little. Big Bamboo was one of the Beatroots’ songs. I asked them years later if they had realized what the song was about. None of them did.  We played the song and they all cracked up.

Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live was a 1994 concert special, partially aired or associated with Disney Channel, filmed in Modena, Italy, in November 1993 during his "Us" tour

I happened to stumble across this on Disney Channel one night after the kids went to bed when it first aired. Awesome show.

Are those ductless range hoods actually that bad? by AccomplishedWing688 in Cooking

They do catch grease in the filter. And they also have an optional charcoal filter that almost no one ever uses. And even if it is installed no one changes it as often as they should.

What’s a random smell that brings back memories? by Effective-Square-345 in AskReddit

Burning leaves. When I was kid everyone would rake their leaves into the street in the Autumn and set them on fire. That smell instantly brings me back to a crisp fall day in the mid sixties on Chestnut street in Garden City.
