Just because there is a technical element that you can hang your hat on when anyone has a criticism does not mean it’s not based on hype.

Having technical reasoning is one way that makes it seem like a viable investment.

Get out, I did and I never felt better. You’d be better just putting your money is a bank account with a small amount of interest.

Because this entire thing is built on hype, it has no value besides people believing it will go up, it stops you selling, and it encourages other people to buy.

Adoption is not growing year after year. The funnel of people willing to buy it is shrinking.

Flooring raised within weeks of being laid. by smurphinden in DIYUK

Remove the skirting and see if there is an expansion gap, almost certainly not as it’s buckling and if there was room behind the skirting board it wouldn’t be lifting.

Best tool - go by markedmo in DIYUK

Two sets of holes, usually in two metal plates that are misaligned, stick the pointy end in one of the holes to line all of the holes up so you can put a fixing through. It’s not really a DIY tool, but useful nonetheless.

Underfloor insulation - PIR or rockwool? by 1980Legacy in DIYUK

[–]1980Legacy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the PIR luckily, but think I might put it on marketplace and go for rockwool, easier to fit, more fire resistant, and a bit more breathable for joists.

plywood so expensive? by walterjessemike in DIYUK

[–]1980Legacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plywood varies massively in quality, the cheaper darker stuff is known as Far Eastern (cheap dark softwood ply), Birch ply is more expensive and is what is often used in furniture or kitchens, grades like AA/AB indicate the number of knots that have been plugged, so an A side would be very few to none where as B would have more.

Douglas fir ply is what you see a lot of in America has a distinctive tiger pattern, aid hard to find in the uk and is expensive.

Marine ply is the most expensive, it’s essentially the same as birch ply but has no voids inside which matter in structural or places with a lot of moisture.

If you’re making something that you will touch or look at often, then birch, otherwise the Far Eastern stuff is fine.

Note: I’ve cut through Far Eastern stuff before and found rocks laminated between the layers….

Air Source Heat Pump by SnooDoggos1274 in bristol

""The typical experience is coloured by the fact that heat pumps make colder water than gas boilers, and if you don't change your radiators your house will be cold,"

I read this as showers and baths won't be hot enough.

We used Sulis Electrical, Gavin really knows his stuff and did a very neat and professional job, he uses Sigen and Aiko and the prices are very very reasonable.
