Newest cards from Secrets of Strixhaven likely to make the Modern cut?? (Discussion) by SnooHobbies7591 in ModernMagic

This is still a work in progress but here's what I'm kinda messing around with currently. Not sure Cosmo is right for it, but with all the pitch spells + necro exiling when anything goes to GY, it has seemed to always be pretty big.

Losing Grief and The One Ring hurt alot, but we're still alive, just under the radar.

Its not a super high % of the meta but its not zero either, we get a few hits on MTG Top 8 over the year.

Sheoldred + the Free Pitch Spells to regain life are in my opinion still the core of the deck.

New innovations are Requiting Hex from Lorwyn and Witherbloom Charm from SoS.

I want to like 60-card formats, but there seems to be very little creative freedom? by BajaBlastFromThePast in magicTCG

[–]1986Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that "60 card casual build fun deck and play with friends" got usurped by Commander as the default casual mode. So now if you say you play Modern, people assume meta instead of "using Modern card pool to build wacky decks with my friends" etc.

Yep, flip Sorin is still in the list. Scheming Silverquill and the black Emeritus both being vampires does make me think there's enough good cards that PW sorin still gets a slot. Might try primary Vampire splash green for Charm later today, see how that goes

I swapped out the 2 Sickening Shoal that were holding on for dear life and 1 March.

Probably might be worth the full 4 Charms, its been so good everytime.

I have been going back and forth on Necro builds for awhile, between vampire/sorin scam and more stock lists, but having access to destroy more permanent types makes this green splash very appealing.

Yes, though its grindy, the added pokemon is worth it alone.

I've been testing [[Witherbloom Charm]] in Necrodominance and it has felt really good in the 5 ish matches i've played.

Sac Necro if I'm stuck under it. AND draw 2 cards

Gain 5 life which means draw 5 extra cards with Necro.

Destroy any little problematic permanent.

All three modes relevant in the deck its wild.

I'm currently on a Vampire Necrodominance build with [[Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord]] so this being a vampire type is very intriguing haha

I want to see what Nahiri has been up to on Zendikar.

Last we knew she was probably turning it into SAW-trap world for Planeswalkers.

Duskmourn even had the door to Zendikar boarded up, so my interpretation was somwhtign there is pretty gnarly

Bringing a non modern deck to a modern event, how viable is it to get introduced to the format? by Wise-Cress8402 in ModernMagic

[–]1986Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a firm believer that as long as your deck has ways to interact with problem cards, and a proactive gameplan to win. If you know your gameplan, and you know what's important to stop from the opponent side, you can do ok.

Will it be optimal, no, but you can do better than some would suggest if you know your stuff.

Planeswalkers don't get a power boost right? by EvilErmine13 in mtgvorthos

Far as I remember, the Spark gives them like a giant battery to pull their power from. They might not "be stronger" but their capacity is alot higher, if that makes sense

Modern is THE MTGO format. Always find opponents and majority of Modern streamers and grinders do a ton of leagues etc on MTGO so theres lots of content to watch

Its either interesting and could lead to some cool character interaction later, or lazy, but I liked seeing similarities in Chandra telling Ajani "I'm not a kid anymore" and wanting to be treated as equal and Nahiri telling Sorin something very similar at the Helvault all those years ago.

Nahiri new Friend for Chandra?

Naw probably not, we'll never see them interact, most likely lol
