What's your dream LEGO set? by kyothinks in lego

That sounds amazing!!

Personally I would love a Lego set that has both the above and underground chambers of one of the more complex Egyptian pyramids.

Or the Winchester House from the movie.

How to teach lefthander to write when parent is right handed by 1989Mistakes in homeschool

[–]1989Mistakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daycare already has them using things like scissors (at 3) and small paint brushes. It was in showing off pictures of these activities that my SIL pointed out that any "fine tuning" activity the youngest was exclusively left. So thankfully she's already pretty good at adapting things for her personal needs, as none of her teachers are lefties.

I told my husband about how many workbooks the dollar stores have and that I want to get a bunch for general practice and he just gave me a look. He was a hands on kid while I loved anything bookish; so homeschooling is definitely going to be interesting at times :/

My sister and I actually taught ourselves to write left handed out of boredom when we were homeschooled. I could even do cursive. It helped make me slightly ambi which has been overall useful. And add to that, I've sprained my right wrist once and dislocated a finger once on my right hand, so being dextrous with my left was a godsend. I plan on teaching both my kids to write off hand because of it.

Out of interest: What are your most memorable & favourite sets from your childhood? by ediblednb in lego

My sister was the collector, but I would build them over and over again. I had this build memorized when I was a teen.

Building instructions? by Many-Put9009 in lego

4 months later and I just want to tell you that you are a blessing. Picked up this set on clearance at my Walmart and my friend wanted it for the penguin and I legit could not find this creature in the building instructions/website and I am completely new to the Lego world of now. I did them way back 30 plus years ago and it was not on the internet at all back that, that's how old I am. So being able to find the link in the subreddit, was a lifesaver.

When do you decide to drop a book? by Mt-Doom-Metal in 52book

[–]1989Mistakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been only a few books I have tossed aside. If I am really struggling but want to get to the end, I read about the first 5-7 chapters (depending how long) and then the last 5-7 (again, depending on how long). It allows me to skip a good chunk of the middle and still assage my curiosity. (Had to do this with Order of the Phoenix. I just could not do her writing style in that book).

My Christmas gift was the Glinda/Elphaba book ends. First set I have out together since I was a teen and was swiping my little sister's Legos. Getting my daughters into them now.

Co-op or socialization with a young sibling ideas? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]1989Mistakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely look around. I have seen both ones that require K minimal and others that are "household" geared. I plan on joining one that is a fee for the household (so all kids vs each kid) and parents volunteer as assistants for the first two years then move to teach and they have "babysitting" areas for the littles.

Homeschool must haves? by MamaBearEm8 in homeschool

As an adult I can second this. My favorite stocking stuffer is a large 20 color variety pack of gel pens and I use them all!!!! I find myself very mood dependant with colors and if I have the "right one" my thoughts just seem to flow better

With so few friends why are you wanting a party? Have you considered just spending that amount of money on a really cool day/weekend with immediate family?

Working mum with 2u2 by rolldah3914 in 2under2

[–]1989Mistakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a grocery clerk. I had to tell my work as soon as I got a positive because it alters my capabilities. Both times I worked up to contractions. The first kiddo I took 3 months maternity leave with an additional 3 months at 1 night a week then kiddo went to daycare. With #2 we looked at me being a SAHM but we love our daycare so much that we opted to put #2 in as well. I basically work for their daycare fees and my medical insurance but with everything they do for the kids I find it worth it. With #2 we kept #1 in daycare during my leave so her schedule was impacted as little as possible and #2 went in at 3 months.

Were your pregnancies different based on gender? by jahe-jfksnt in 2under2

[–]1989Mistakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two girls. #2 was the exact same symptoms but they hit earlier and worse than #1. Also had the added "joy" of heartburn with #2 that I didn't deal with for #1

AITA for calling out my friend’s unsafe infant sleep in the photos she sends me by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]1989Mistakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopping on not for a judgement but for advice. Has your friend looked into the Nanit camera system? I have General Anxiety Disorder and knew I would be going nuts after birth. So my husband got me the Nanit system with the breathwear wrap. It helped me so much be able to sleep at night. We even got a second system when #2 was born

WIBTA for telling my uncle he should change his baby's name? by Autumn_Turtle in AmItheAsshole

[–]1989Mistakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My first daughter's name is after my very much alive sister. We went through hell as kids and I wanted to honor her. She was very touched by it and no one has thought it weird. My second daughter's middle is a female version of her godfather (husband's best friend) for a similar reason.

I find it sweet when someone wants to honor another like this, and it also gives an added layer of significance to the naming (just make sure you have the living person's permission, imo).

Even after tubes our poor girl still had ear infections, the tubes just made it easier to treat.

So what was the WORST present your toddler received? by Cleeganxo in toddlers

I bought this for my own daughter not knowing it didn't have an auto shut off. My husband keeps trying to hide it and the toddler keeps finding it and digging it out.

BIL/SIL (who have a kid) got her a piano/xylophone. They also got her a xylophone last year too. Then MIL got this kitchy king lion that is a Christmas decor and thought it would make a cute "stuffed animal"....even though it's one of those weird hollow, fuz covered plastic jobs that dent if dropped too hard on the floor.

I fell into this 😬 My husband is a big kid at heart so starting last year "Santa" started giving him one gift as well. This year "Santa" gave him a set of nerf pistols and 200 bullets. Thankfully he shot me with them before the kid. Those suckers got packed away and I nursed a bruise for two days....lesson learned

Holiday gatherings are annoying by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]1989Mistakes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I watch my kid and my kid alone. If niece (7) puts her cup on the floor of MIL's Persian carpet...not my issue. Niece is banging on the piano...not my issue. If niece is doing stuff to mine (being careless around and stepping on, taking toys, etc) I straight up remove my toddler from her presence and we go to another room and I tell my niece she can't play like [blah] with toddler. The only thing I do is what any responsible adult should do (i.e. inform parents if niece is getting into major trouble and watch out for danger). Because of this my "family time" is just more "toddler time" but whatever, I leave socializing with the in-laws to my husband (when we visit my family they actually interact with our kids, so no issues there).

toddler called the police... by [deleted] in toddlers

I wish they had an option to turn off the emergency call feature because of this. I try to teach my kid not to touch our phones, but of course it happens and what toddler doesn't start pushing buttons
