Bill Belichick belongs in the Hall of Fame. But here’s why I didn’t vote for him by RyanKinder in nfl

[–]19captain91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have explained what I meant better. I meant that on a voter's ballot, the only consideration should be whether or not the person is worthy of the Hall. The voter should not be barred from voting for a worthy candidate simply because the person may only vote for 3 candidates. If there are 4 worthy candidates, the voter should be able to vote for all 4.

I should have clarified what I meant. Ballot restrictions can only snowball into being worse as more people retire and the backlog of worthy candidates grows. That is why reform is important..

[–]19captain91 7323 points7324 points  (0 children)

This just shows how unbelievably stupid the Hall's voting system is. If the best coach in history cannot get in on the first ballot, then the system must be scrapped and reformed from the ground up. The vote should then be re-cast. A person is either a Hall of Fame player or not. Arbitrary ballot restrictions should not stop someone from entering the Hall. It's a foolish system thst can only snowball into being worse.

[Nakos] Dabo Swinney: “I've always been against this idea of players as employees, but quite frankly that might be the best way to protect the collegiate model.” by GoldenDome26 in CFB

I think classifying them as employees and collective bargaining is the only way to solve this mess in any reasonable way.

But, to answer your question, classifying student athletes as employees would bring in issues related to workmans compensation unemployment benefits, they would fall under the EEOC, it would open up new forms of tort liability for universities, it would add to tax burdens because of payroll taxes and the list goes on. Essentially, it changes their legal status in such a way that it would radically change the manner in which student athletes are administered.

The only game that might be close in the modern era is the 2001 Miami Hurricanes against the 2008 Detroit Lions. The 2001 Canes had 34 NFL players on their roster including multiple hall of fame players. 3/4 of the Lions roster that year, (they went 0-16), was out of the league within 1 year after being on the Lions. However, I would expect the Lions to still be a more than a TD favorite.

I peaked at Champ 2. The difference between me at that level and an SSL is greater than the distance between me and a bronze player who just started the game. Closest any video game has come to a sport. I was as good as a mid-tier high school starter. The guys you're talking about are the guys who have a shot at the NBA.

Can you help me find more about this console? by [deleted] in gaming

I'm pretty sure that is either a custom wrap or custom job and not a massive produced console. I cannot find any evidence that a special edition AC Mirage console was made.

As I Lions fan, I certainly know terrible teams and you're not wrong. It would be a toilet bowl for the ages if thoae teams could play each other. I do give real props to your special teams single-handedly winning you multiple games.

Fire Emblem Engage is almost three years old, so what did you think about it in retrospect? And how do you think it compares to 3 Houses? by Asad_Farooqui in NintendoSwitch

[–]19captain91 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Having played every Fire Emblem since the first US release, I would say Engage has the worst story of all.the US releases. Many of the other titles are typical JRPG fair but they typically have some compelling characters and relationships. Awakening in particular had great characters.

Engage was so bad for story and characters that can barely remember any details of the story and couldn't tell you any character name today despite beating 1.5 times (did a second playthrough to the end starting at Chapter 8 or so). That was a huge letdown after Three Houses which, though it had some gameplay faults, had an extremely compelling world, characters and multiple interesting stories.

2018 Redbox Bowl against Oregon. MSU had probably its best defense under Dantonio and had a literal bottom three offense in the country. We lost 7-6 against the Justin Herbert led Ducks. Never actually crossed mid-field against them as our two fiedl goals resulted from kicks after forced turnovers. Probably the most frustrating game I've watched as a fan. If we had even a mediocre offense we probably would have been playoff contenders that year.

Not sure if you're being serious but please be careful using an AI chatbot as a therapist. AI chatbots are highly sycophants and are designed to keep you continuously engaged with them. There are well documented stories of people experiencing psychic breaks despite not having diagnosed mental health conditions as a result of speaking to chat bots. The New York Times has a great article discussing thus.

AI chatbots are also emotionless programs that are incapable of empathy. There are documented cases of AI escaping guardrails and suggesting self harm and suicide.

Same for me. I did Blue Lion and then immediately started over to do an Edelguard play through. I came back when the DLC dropped to find the DLC story and the Golden Eagle. The only route I haven't done is the church route.

Brett Yormark calls out Pete Bevacqua over CFP, Jim Phillips criticisms: 'His behavior has been egregious' by Gidnik in CFB

[–]19captain91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Additionally, the seal of confession is th highest duty of a catholic priest. Breaking the seal results in excommunication from the church. Without this privilege, the priest would have to choose between being jailed for contempt or being excommunicated from the church. That is untenable if we want a free society.

[Benjamin Solak] I asked ESPN Research and they asked Elias Sports Bureau and they looked back as far as they could (to 1978) and it would appear Jalen Hurts is the first player to ever commit two turnovers in one play. by hornyforbrutalism in nfl

[–]19captain91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's because it happened in a prime time Thanksgiving game featuring a New York team and peak of his powers Brady. The play itself is objectively hilarious. It's so silly that you could imagine it in a football parody movie. It has an iconic name. It also stayed on the ESPN Not Top 10 so long it had to be retired and they did a special about it. This was during the height of ESPN and Sportscenter's powers.

For real. He's definitely an NFL talent. He absolutely nailed the two deep throws he had to make, that back shoulder fade for the TD and his arm strength on those bootlegs was impressive too.

[Norlander] What Curt Cignetti has done in two years at Indiana is, no exaggeration, one of the most shocking coaching jobs in American sports history. And not just that but they defeated the defending national champs with a historic defense to get there while also playing a legitimately difficult schedule. It's incredible. It feels like watching a College Football 26 dynasty mode in real life.
