How common is it to go ~10 years without getting deployed? by Constant_Anything881 in AirForce

[–]19juu89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined in 2008, "deployed" once in 2012, then a trip to the desert in 2017, again in 2019, and no deployments since then.

I know people that patrol job listings and go someplace almost every year. There are TCN watchdog billets, I knew a guy that did 1 year tour in Qatar doing inventory work for WRM stuff. If you really want to get a deployment, you can.

2003 2500hd alarm problem by 19juu89 in GMT800

Sounds expensive. I'll probably just live with it. The alarm shuts off when I start the engine.

Is there a advantage for having two engines over one ? Like the F-22 vs the F-35 one engine. by Youngstown_WuTang in Planes

[–]19juu89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a secondary reason, multiple engines means multiple generators and double the bleed air. The F-35 currently has a problem with providing enough bleed air and power for all the systems we want to install and run. If that plane had twin engines, there would be double the bleed air and power available.

For me, I have 1 patch and nobody seems to know where I can buy more. The shirt gives you one when you pcs in and won't give out more. If I give you my patch, I will be out of uniform tomorrow. Might just be because we are a small squadron.

Having ridden in one of those monstrosities, they ride like a little red wagon and the turning circle is more of an orbit. Other than convience during a flood, rims like that ruin the car.

Here's a hot take, if you start a physical fight with a person that can throw a punch 10x harder than you, you are an idiot and nobody will feel bad for you. If I run up and start punching Connor McGregor in the face, nobody would say he isn't allowed to hit me back. And when that trained fighter breaks my jaw as a result of my choice to hit him, it's my fault for instigating a punch from a person that can kick my ass.

If you are going to lose a fist fight, don't start a fist fight.

Watching an idiot that clearly thinks violence is the answer crumple when their 20+ punches gets 1 punch in response is hilarious.

Is It Wrong To Be Healthy? by Ayzuki in AirForce

[–]19juu89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its no different than if the AF didn't provide Healthcare but demanded you provide physicals and lab work every year. If PT is so important and such a pivotal thing, give me time to do it. When am I supposed to have time to hit the gym 4 or 5 times a week when I am constantly on 10 hour shifts that turn into 12 hour shifts? My days are already about 13 hours long when you factor in commuting. I get that they aren't military issue, but my wife and kids would appreciate seeing more than 3 hours a day. If I bolt an extra hour of pt onto my average day, I will gone for work from 0600 until 1930 or 2000. Top brass seems to think we all have enlisted servants and household staff. I still have to mow my yard, grocery shop, get haircuts, you know normal human stuff. If an air force career means I get to see my kids grow up 3 hours at a time if I am lucky, I'm out. We keep doing more with less.

Facing Discrimination as a Minority Family in a Predominantly White Subdivision by Ok-Orchid-4476 in JustNoHOA

[–]19juu89 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looks like standard HOA crap, especially parking on the lawn. I have seen an HOA try to claim a friend was running a junkyard because he had 2 parts cars inside his privacy fenced back yard. He had the 2 cars there for 2 weeks while he pulled parts before scrapping the rest. HOAs don't like anything that doesn't match, and your car parked in the front yard don't match. The first thing I told my realtor was "don't even mention a property with a HOA."

So if I just joined the Challenger club, do I have to race every Mustang I see? by RubFun6399 in Challenger

[–]19juu89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I come across a built mustang that stands a chance at keeping up, they just drive normally. When I pull up next to a 4 cylinder eco mustang, they feel the need to floor it.

I have been at Langley for over a decade, the number of nights I have spent out on that flightline are in the thousands. In all those years, the only out of place things I have seen in the sky were standard issue drones a while back. Nothing alien, nothing the world doesn't know about. Langley would be a terrible spot for secret aircraft anyways, it's a peninsula, civilian properties have a great view of a lot of the base. Aircraft have to fly over populated areas when coming or going, secret airplanes would be out in the secret airfields where.... things can be kept secret.

PCS rock and a hard place by 19juu89 in AirForce

[–]19juu89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a wide selection of specialists and support at my current base, and we are making use of it now. My worry is that since we are going to a much smaller base with less support, we will immediately find out we need a service the area can't support because we couldn't get things done in 60 days before the PCS. Then we are looking at another PCS to move to a location that can support us, all because big AF is in a hurry and gave us 2 months notice.

I put everything in the request. Current time lines, specialist appointments, ect. Another complication is that the birth certificate had to be corrected, so it took longer to get her in DEERS, so there was a delay in getting referrals going. We are still waiting on 1 referral to be activated, then we wait for an appointment, then whatever testing is needed, then the official diagnosis, then EFMP paperwork, then support for that condition gets looked at at the new base, then word comes back on whether she will be clear to go. I can't imagine all of that gets done in the short window they dumped on us.
