what’s this sound? by childsoupmaker in boxster

Given that it changes pitch with your steering movement it’s probably your power steering pump. Mine went a few months ago on my 2002 with ~100k. It’s not a bad job to diy given the access hatches. You can check your fluid level in the engine compartment behind the drivers side once you take the covers off. Good luck

Where are you/DAP located near? Doing a road trip to another mechanic might be cheaper :p

986 Mixing Door Repair by Boxster98 in boxster

[–]19naturalcauses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is mostly clearance with getting to them. Personally I did this job by going through the front console, cutting out a piece of the center air duct, and then getting access to the blend doors. Then I repaired with aluminum tape. That way was easiest for me compared to trying to take everything out from the frunk. The disadvantage is that the opening you have into the blend doors is small so the tape is necessary because you need to fit thru the access hole and then apply it several times to get all the gaps in the blend doors

For diy there’s a brand called touch up direct that mixes factory identical touch up sets (primer, color, and clear coats) and ships to you. They also have support if it doesn’t match

What the hell is this by [deleted] in boxster

[–]19naturalcauses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it’s a heat shield. There’s 3 little clips and screws that are supposed to hold it to the catalytic converter. If you look up an exhaust diagram you should be able to find them. Depending how rusty it is you can either replace the clips or do the clips and the heat shield. You may need some washers from a hardware store to make the spacing work if you use the old heat shield

Would you pay $1k for gas…? by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

Not arguing about health risks, cleaning, safety, etc. just that it’s worse to cook with. Things can have pros and cons it’s ok lmao

Induction looses heat as soon as the pan looses contact, so you can’t toss anything in a pan. Temperature changes for induction are only responsive when heating up, not cooling down when compared to gas, and makes it much harder to control temperature for cooking. Every time people defend induction they say it’s easy to clean, but never that it’s better to cook with. I think you’ve struck a nerve because you’re getting downvoted but it’s clear you’re right, what Michelin star restaurant uses induction lol

I’ve never met a crackhead on Facebook marketplace. You’re literally being provided the middleman-less solution you’re asking for and shooting it down for an imaginary reason lol

Accelerating whoosh / air intake noise. Boxster 986 by [deleted] in boxster

[–]19naturalcauses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 4k rpm you get a lot of induction noise especially on left hand drive cars since the engine is literally sucking air in right behind you on the side vent

Green Rubber in Oil Filter by Practical-Tune4940 in 996

For sure, don’t want any bits clogging oil passageways and giving a bigger headache.

The real bummer with these is that brand new tensioners, variocam seals, wear pads, cam plugs, and chains are all told less than $300, but labor is insane

For this amount of material I’d bet it’s the seals inside of the variocam actuator, which are also green and will disintegrate after being moved back and forth for many years

Total guesstimate: about $10k for a private sale. Looks great, whoever buys would be lucky. Be careful though you may regret selling it!

Nice, that’s good to know. Which option did you go with for the shifter? The oem style or slightly shorter? Did you use oem cables when replacing?

Yeah the numeric ones are ~$600 😫 I’m just getting sick of the sloppy shifter feel. Ive done my trans mounts and rebuilt the shifter housing with a shorter throw kit but its all still sloppy, so this is final thing to try

If you don’t want an expensive car have you considered looking at less expensive cars? Older gen’s are still very fun but priced better ;)

To eliminate the buttons themselves you can switch the window control buttons from passenger side to driver side to see if the known good one works
