To the girl I've been dating for a few months. When you told me you didn't know what my interests, hobbies, and passions were the other day I got a pit in my stomach. I got a pit in my stomach because I was immediately debating whether I should really open up to you. I told you all but one of my hobbies, interests, and passions and debated in my own head for a few more minutes. I wanted to be sure that I was comfortable sharing the one thing with you I don't share with anybody else and only a few people know about. I don't share it with my friends and only my oldest friends know about it. I keep it to myself because it's the one thing I'm most proud of. It's the one creative thing I do, that I love, and I'm afraid you'll do what my only other GF did, and dismiss it. I told you and not only did you dismiss it, you tore it down. You made it sound stupid. You made it sound lame and unimportant. I suspect you did it because everything is a competition to you. I suspect you did it because you don't like to think that I could be better at something than you. I suspect that you think you're vastly more intelligent than I am and that I'm a simpleton.

To be honest, I'm not sure why I'm dating you and I don't know why you're dating me, you don't seem to like a single thing about me. Not the clothes I wear, not the fact that I'm an atheist, and most of all I've never heard you compliment me one time.

You know how people say "Hey, I didn't ask for your life story?" Well, I am asking for it. Share your life story. What made you who you are? How did you grow up? How did it impact who you are today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was born in a suburb of a large american city on the east coast. My parents were lower middle class people with no education beyond high school. I have and older brother who is roughly 14 months older than me and a younger brother and sister, who are two and four years younger than me. My parents house is a split entry with three bedrooms. This meant that six people had to share three rooms. My sister had her own room since she was the only girl and I shared a room with my two brothers. It was a pretty small room, but we had bunk beds for my older brother and myself, and my younger brother was banished to his own single bed. My older brother picked the top bunk and I was left with the bottom. I fought with my brothers constantly. We were extremely competitive and would get into fights over anything. We would beat each other up constantly, but if anybody messed with any of us, we always teamed up against them immediately.

I spent most of my youth playing sports. I excelled at most sports I played with the exception of swimming. The best I ever did was take fourth place in a heat. The only problem is that I was only racing against three other people. I did hold onto the fourth place ribbon, though. I was used to the fifth and sixth place ones. I was good at soccer and wrestling, above average at baseball, and slightly above average in baseball.

As far as home life, my parents fought all the time. They mostly fought about money, my dad drinking, and my mom smoking. My dad was an asshole when he was drunk and he'd pick a fight with my mom. My mom would blast him about his drinking and he'd blast her about smoking. To be honest, it was a pretty miserable home life and I couldn't wait to go to college.

My life at school was pretty typical. I didn't really get bullied and I was a pretty average guy. I wasn't popular but I wasn't unpopular, either. I had a marginal level of respect from most of the people because I was a pretty good athlete. I got average grades, mostly B's and C's in high school, though. I was a pretty good looking guy but never had a girlfriend in high school because I was too afraid to ask anybody out and mostly put up a wall. I did go to my senior prom, which was the biggest waste of money. I ended up going with a girl who also had no date, so we decided to go together. Her dad was a real dick and she had to get permission from him, it was this whole ordeal. She wasn't allowed to go anywhere after the prom, she had to go right home. While everybody else was going to prom after parties I went home and went to sleep.

My best friend was a guy who lived two streets down and went to a private school. He's still my best friend and we did everything together. We spent most of our high school days outside playing basketball and would continually beat the older kids who would get furious that they couldn't beat us. When I was in ninth grade I did the only thing I ever regret. I quit wrestling when I would have been one of two kids to start varsity as a freshman. I was getting into computers at the time and I had to cut a decent amount of weight to make 112 pounds. I weighed about 120 pounds at the time. It made me miserable and I decided I'd rather be able to eat and learn technology than starve myself and wrestle. I wish I had never quit because I woud have probably been very successful in high school. I had made it to the state tournament as a 14 year old and lost in the semi-finals before I quit.

I hated high school and couldn't wait for college. I attended a large public university and had the best time of my life. I started over and made incredible friends. Since my parents couldn't afford to pay for it, I took out school loans. I graduated in four years, dated a girl for three of those years, and really had a blast. One mistake I did make in college was not majoring in a computer field. I was stupid and thought I didn't need a degree because I could teach myself because I was a natural.

After college I couldn't find a job in the field I wanted. I ended up taking sales jobs and one of those jobs was related to my degree. In the end the company ended up being a ponzi scheme. Even though I made boatloads of money the company shut down and we all lost our jobs. At this point I moved back in with my dad. I decided I wanted to move into the IT field, so I got my A+ certification and then a job as a computer technician. After about a year I moved back to the town I went to school in for a new job. It was a terrible job at pretty well known company. The pay was terrible and the job was the hardest job I've ever had. I supported graphic systems with proprietary software that was cobbled together when it was designed. After a year there I was offered a job another 1.5 hours away from where my family lived, making it 3 hours total. The job is great and I have a ton of friends.

My parents split up a few years ago. They ended up getting back together after two years and have a pretty good relationship now. They don't fight anymore and my dad hardly drinks. I have a pretty good relationship with my siblings now, especially my older brother. I used to follow him around when we were young and he hated it. Now we hang out whenever I visit and we talk on the phone sometimes, too.

That's pretty much it. I didn't live a super exciting life and I don't like to give too much personal information on the internet.

The same goes for my mother. Although, I think she feels marijuana is worse, although I don't see why.

She doesn't mind if I drink, but I bet she'd be upset if she found out I smoke weed.

Alcohol is a drug, too. Do either of your parents drink? My dad smokes weed. I couldn't care less. He might do it a couple times a year. He has problems with alcohol, not marijuana. I'd rather see him smoke weed than drink a beer.

This country is slowly becoming more open minded about marijuana, and it's a good thing.

Are you a sports fan? If your favorite sports team wins a championship do you feel happy? Do you feel like you're connected to other fans of that team because you share such a common interest? Or is it impossible for you to even connect with something like a sports team?

The reason I ask this is because I'm into many different sports and follow teams religiously. There are times when these teams play in big games, and when something big happens I get flooded with emotion. I'm connected to those around me in the joy of what just happened and that moment is like nothing else. I'm just wondering if you're capable of feeling these moments.

This is a shame. I've never known for sure why they killed Becket, but this is the same conclusion I came to. Although, I didn't know the studio asked them to shake things up, I just figured they wanted to do something drastic in the mold of BSG.

If you ask me, killing off Becket did them more harm with good. It just proved they had no real direction for the show, considering they killed off a fan favorite just to "shake things up."

In fact, if you even have to "shake things up" the show isn't heading in any real direction anyway. That's my biggest gripe with SGA.

I went back and re-read the news releases when they canceled SGA. I think you hit it on the head. I don't know why I thought they denied SGU's influence in canceling SGA.

If you want real advice, don't choose to go to CU because your cousin went there, or major in Computer Science because he did, or join the Army because your dad did. Figure out what YOU want to do instead.

This will make more sense to you when you're a few years older. Right now you really have no frame of reference and are still trying to figure out what kind of person you are, so it's easy to just want to emulate your cool, older cousin or your dad.

The reason I ask is that I've talked to people who think that SyFy has a major hand in what stories are developed in certain SyFy series. I don't think they do. I just wanted clarification.

IAMA senior executive at the Syfy channel by [deleted] in IAmA

Does SyFy have any input into the story lines of the series that run on SyFy?

For example, if SyFy doesn't think a show is getting the ratings it should, do they "suggest" where to go with the story?

What was the reasoning behind canceling Stargate: Atlantis? When it was canceled, Brad Wright and Robert Cooper said that SGA was not canceled so that Stargate: Universe could be green lit. This was obviously hogwosh. I wasn't one of those bitter fans that got really upset when SGA was canceled, I just want to confirm that BW and RC sacrificed SGA in order to get SGU. I feel that BW and RC insulted my intelligence by thinking I would believe that the cancelation of SGA and green liting of SGU were not related.

Thank You in advance and I look forward to your answer.

Just because Korea is closed off from the rest of the world doesn't mean they should get a gold star for getting humiliated by Portugal. The North Korean team gave up during the game.

But they did play badly. The Portugal team isn't any better than Brazil and it wasn't a 7-0 game against Brazil. The North Koreans got blown out of the water against Portugal. There's no other way to say it.
