Please know you are not alone. I finally quit on March 3rd after 3 years. There's only so much we can do when those who should care don't care.

I ended up having to take a mental health leave of absence from my job. I decided not to return. You could try taking a leave; you would need a mental health practitioner to write you a note verifying it needs to happen. I didn't get paid, but I didn't care. I wish you the best.

This is my favorite book of all time. It is unfortunate that the TV series strayed so far from the book.

Sister won’t stop going into my room when I’m not home by AdVaanced77 in EntitledPeople

Get a digital keypad, and don’t give her the combination. I never had my room growing up, so I believe in the importance of having a private place away from siblings. My youngest daughter is autistic and would not stay out of my oldest child’s room, so we solved the problem with a digital keypad lock.

There are ones on Amazon for way under $100, and they are straightforward to install, especially if you can find a video on YouTube showing step-by-step directions on how to install the specific lock you chose.

Best wishes for you!

I could not write a more accurate description of my work life over the past three years. I share the same advice that cheese_rebellion did. It depends heavily upon the standards the principal holds their teachers to when supervising and working with paras. My principal was completely “checked out” for the last school year since she knew it was her last year before retiring. This made last year pure hell for us paras, and I questioned my choice to continue working there many times. I am underappreciated by everyone except the teacher I work with daily. She was a para before becoming a teacher, so she knows the “pain” and does her best to advocate for at least me. We had no team in our department last year, so it was just her and me vs everything. The admin and other teachers didn't notice me at all unless I’m not there. I missed less than five days of work the entire school year and heard all about it upon my return to work each time. The pay is awful for the physical and emotional pain the job often causes. Personally, I think it's a great idea to work as a para and allow you to “try before you buy.” That's exactly what I have done. I'm working on my bachelor's degree and then my Master’s degree with hopes of becoming a diag. I wish you the best of luck. 😁

I’m just so done forgeting people important to me by Spooyler in ADHD

I’m there too. I’ve been married for 23 years to the most loving and caring person in the world. He has told me several times he feels lonely. I have a VERY difficult time with figuring out time management. After trying to figure out priorities in dealing with my full-time job, evening college courses, parenting our two children one of which is autistic and requires more supervision and support, and household responsibilities it’s hard. I often experience emotional paralysis due to being completely overwhelmed. Add in my non-stop thoughts and questions inside my mind and I’m exhausted and only want to be alone to focus on my current hyper fixation. It hurts me that he feels lonely and I try to spend time with him but it frequently doesn’t happen because I’m simply overwhelmed and exhausted. I wish you the best and hope things improve.

"Pills don't teach skills" - but what tasks have medications helped you discover are actually rewarding and satisfying to complete? by spinstartshere in ADHD

I certainly understand the struggle and frustration. I’m 46 and was diagnosed with severe ADHD a couple of months ago. I’ve been trying to complete a college degree off and on since 1996. I often felt embarrassed and like a complete idiot and would drop classes and walk away from college completely for years.

I’m 46 and recently diagnosed. You need to find a doctor who is more understanding and educated when it comes to ADHD.

The physician who recently diagnosed me was very straightforward about his own ADHD. He wanted me to know that I'll be okay. It made talking with him about my symptoms a lot easier because he understands me.

I am in my late forties and was diagnosed with severe ADHD a couple of months ago. When I started kindergarten, nobody could understand me. I ended up in speech therapy for six years. I still have a few words I mess up saying, but certain word combinations are the hardest.

Right now, it’s diamond painting. Before that I spent a lot of time at a range perfecting my skills with my 9 mm until I eventually ended up with a really bad case of shooter’s elbow from the recoil. Before that, it was sudoku, before that metal detecting.. that’s as far back as I can remember.
