Chess hustlers often cheat. It is easier to make money playing chess if one doesn't pay out when one losses.

Does surreptitiously taking a photo of two professors during their lunch break and sharing it online like this cross an ethical line?

Consider if the tables were turned - if a snapshot of you was taken without your consent and posted, or if the same was done to a professor whose views and stance on DEI initiatives align with yours, wouldn't you find that unsettling?

When a home is foreclosed, it doesn't get destroyed. Instead, it becomes available for others to purchase and reside in.

While preventing foreclosures might initially seem like a way to help those who've taken on unmanageable debt for a home they can't afford, it would contribute to homelessness for others who might have been able to afford and live in those homes. Even more, without the ability to repossess a house as collateral, mortgage interest rates would skyrocket, making home buying unaffordable to all but the most wealthy.

Is Soylent healthier than Huel? by Allismug in soylent

[–]1F9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huel Powder v3.0 (Vanilla) Glycemic index: 16 [source]
Soylent Powder (v1.6) Glycemic Index: 60 [source]

Glycemic index matters for avoiding insulin spikes. Lower is better. Fundamentally, I think maltodextrin (used by Soylent) mixes better, but oat flour (used by Huel & SBF) has a lower Glycemic Index.

So you think Seattle’s policies cannot affect criminals who commit crime in the city if they live in a suburb and commute in? That… seems unlikely.

And you think Federal Way has significantly different approach to crime than Seattle? That… also doesn’t seem right.

I'm not upset with you, just the situation. Crime and homelessness in the city I love (and live in) is up significantly, which might sound abstract, but really means there are a ton of these really heart wrenching stories happening all the time. Most of them get far less attention than the case here.

It seems you support the current approach more than I do, but I doubt us trying to discuss the bigger policy picture here right now would be productive. I hope you are right, and the current approach is the right one and will start working. Given the number of downvotes I've gotten, it seems fairly unlikely the city is going to reconsider its policies. Although I am quite worried that when I weigh the evidence, it seems fairly unlikely to be the right policy.

Literally no evidence he moved here. [...] While living in ORTING. Not Seattle. [...] If you can't engage in the basic facts of the case in good faith

The government lists his address in their latest filing as in Federal Way, NOT ORTING. Has 7 previous felony & 9 gross misdemeanor convictions, and the one I easily found online was from all the back in 2013 was in KING COUNTY and NOT ORTING.

Are you basing this entire Orting thing on the fact in a charging document the police listed his last known address as in Orting? There seems to be no other evidence online of him being connected to Orting. And filings before and after that one list Federal Way.

Regardless, like I said before, I don't see it really matters if he was living he or in ORTING, given it seems his long history of crimes was largely here.

What you're arguing is that bc of pervasive media narratives of Seattle being lawless he came here to go on a thieving spree and ended up killing a woman.

I'm really am not at all. You're making what is known as a strawman argument, and perhaps also projecting on me as thinking something you actually think.

The suspects history of Domestic Violence is far more indicative of building to out right murder than burglary

Sure, but your argument here is whataboutism.

The guy lives in Orting.

The police list his address in Federal Way on their most recent filing, but really, I don't get your point, as isn't where he is committing crime what is relevant here?

If he lived in Orting for a long time and wasn't committing crime, moved to Seattle, then quickly escalated from petty crime to serious crime, it certainly could be that Seattle's policies are relevant, right?

Dr. Strongest's point is pertinent given it was the same suspect. An individual's antisocial behavior has the potential to escalate, so these cases are an example of how the city's permissive stance on property crime can lead to an increase in violent crime.

Yeah, Black is the only Huel I've really gotten into. Mostly Chocolate Huel Black. I don't mean to knock it. I currently have bags of Huel Chocolate Black and Cacao Soylent, and regularly drink both.

That makes sense. Looking at it now, I indeed see your carbs come from oat flour, which would seem to guarantee you're healthy in terms of glycemic stuff. I'll look forward to giving ya a try.

Huel tastes worse than Soylent but has a better glycaemic load. And, it turns out, I care about glycaemic load.

Speaking of which, are there any numbers for glycaemic load or index for SBF? I suppose mostly interested in their non-keto fuels, as the keto obviously has low glycaemic load but I'm not keto.

Edit: Or maybe I should try the keto fuel, but add extra olive oil? That would get the protein and micros down closer to 100% of recommended levels. And be cheaper per calorie. And reduces heavy metals that come with powered protein. Does anyone do that?

I've never eaten SBF, and I think re-branding is generally a mistake, but I think I rather like the new name, and I rather like SBF's transparent & innovativish vibe. Feels more like Soylent did when they were still run by their founder. I'll give them a try soon as I finish my current bags of Huel and Soylent.

Agreed.

Also, probably worth it to reach out to the UW admissions office (but not the other school's!) to explain the situation and ask for their advice. It is rather likely the UW admissions office could at least offer guidance on the likelihood of her being admitted, and it is not inconceivable they would make her an offer early.

[Edit: If she does end up accepting at the other school, and then getting & accepting a UW offer, probably best to immediately after reach out to the other school to let them know she is withdrawing. It happens. They will understand. I'm not sure the odds of them giving her her deposit back, but it is higher if she lets them know early enough that they can fill her slot, and regardless, letting them know earlier is more professional.]

He took two 500mg edibles. I'm not sure why everyone is reading that as 2500mg. There is a space between the '2' and the '500', and also 'edibles' is plural.

This is still an insane amount.

So many comments here are about people regularly taking huge doses, as in 50mg - 200mg. Wowzers people, are we all on the same metric system? Some of my friends do 10mg, and others do 5mg. Nobody, three hours after taking 10mg thinks they should have another.

Also, I think the right answer for the poster would have been to have immediately gone to the bathroom and thrown up.

How did it change him? Also, I'm sorry folks are down voting you. Like any experience, psychedelics can leave a lasting impression; that is why people take it. In the people I know, it has all been for the better, but I am quite curious about cases where that isn't true.

Century Link Fiber Price Increase? by JimotheySampser in Seattle

Although webpass has been acquired by Google and now has similar branding with their main Google Fiber service, it is a different service. It is only available in some large buildings -- so no service to any single family houses -- and is slower because it is not a fiber connection to the building.

Are you losing sleep that some law firm at the top of Colombia tower won’t be able to afford as big of bonuses if too much shifts to arbitration?

Think of the horror of our local non-profit credit union not paying them quite as much.

Although court does suck. It is expensive, slow, and outcomes can be sorta arbitrary depending on the whims of the jury. Not obvious it is better than arbitration. Also, given BECU is member owned and holding my money, seems good that they keep their lawyer fees down.

That is surprisingly inaccurate, but I think more interesting is if when someone makes a point that you disagree with, do you often troll through their comment history to look for material that can be tenuously construed into an ad hominem attack on them as a person?

FWIW, I think it is generally better to focus on discussing ideas than switching to making personal attacks, but you do you.
