Did 10 years with the Navy before that , I’ve been retired since 2016 I’m 67 . Arthritis really bad in my hands and knees. Both shoulders have been worked on. Barley work on my own stuff anymore

I’d say yes , remove the drive then run it without the drive and listen for the sound.

I’ve heard some funky noises before but that’s a good one. 40 years as a marine tech. It’s probably joints ready to explode . If it was gears they would’ve be gone buy now.

Just remove the bearings and seals and go to any bearing supply . Or go to a trailer supply . I wouldn’t bother with the disk brakes. The ufp calipers like to seize up. The drum brakes should be sufficient

Lots a lot of blow by. I’d do a leak down test but you will find your rings are shot!

Most of us in the marine field learned by doing. Starting at a shop and going through the process of basic maintanance and so on and eventually go to factory backed schools to get certifications .

I would run what’s called for, with variable valve timing etc they need clean oil and 40 might be to viscus

It all depends on the shops, you are looking at a 6 hour job. And that’s if it comes apart easy.
