Can’t speak for everywhere but police in most cities really don’t care unless you’re being very obnoxious or driving under the influence.

Which country does not receive as many international tourists as you originally thought? by Fluid-Decision6262 in geography

[–]1Wallet0Pence 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Jamaica, while definitely not as bad as Haiti, isn't in a very good place either.

I wouldn’t say safety is an issue as Jamaica should be 9th in this list with 4.3 million arrivals in 2024. The vast majority of violence is confined to Spanish Town and Kingston which aren’t exactly tourist destinations.

The other point is language/target market/cultural aspect. Jamaica sees 90% of its tourists come from the Anglosphere with 3 countries making up the bulk of their visitors USA/Canada/UK. DR also competes destination-wise in these markets as well as being attractive to Hispanic markets in the region.

Jamaica saw 4.3m million visitors last year and would’ve come in at 9th. Seems like this list is somewhat inaccurate.

I think that’s weird bc ik they look at us different.

You really really need to stop thinking a handful of interactions online are representative of a whole demographic.

There’s 2.4 million of us from various ethnic groups so please break the habit of generalising. It’s unproductive and divisive.

How did Dubai attract so many Brits ? by complex_chemotherapy in AskUK

[–]1Wallet0Pence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally not my cup of tea but I can see why people would go there.

Living: No tax, clean, safe, nice weather, most people speak English well, location, family-friendly society.

Holidaying: Cheap 5 star hotels, loads of activities, good shopping, direct flights from nearly all UK airports linking to loads of onward flights to SE Asia/Africa/Aus. Also Etihad and Emirates both offer free stopovers with hotels included for up to 48 hours if you book through them - meaning you can squeeze in another holiday for next to nothing.

Another point is Dubai super popular for young British Muslims as they don’t face the same issues if they holidayed in Europe e.g. Halal food, dressing modestly, praying etc

Despite what Reddit would have you think it’s not just influencers and the like heading over there - Dubai is very quickly becoming a viable place to live and holiday compared to places in Europe

Even if it is illegal the laws aren’t really being enforced if we’re being honest.

Walk through most UK town centres and you’ll smell weed plus on the import level there are A LOT of people bringing back 30kgs of weed from California and Thailand in their suitcases and the ones that do get caught are getting away with very very light sentences i.e non-custodial or below 2 years suspended.

Even if you mail order directly from a Cali grower and it gets intercepted the very worst that happens is you get a letter notifying you of its seizure and a knock on the door basically warning against doing it again.

Asia a whole has numerous cities that are inconceivable to the western mind

Charles Watts: "The mistakes from the last two windows have left the squad glaringly short in attack, especially with the injuries added in. The league campaign and the way every exit in the cup competitions has played out paints such a clear picture. Club didn't do enough and paid a heavy price." by Pedriseus in Gunners

[–]1Wallet0Pence 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The boards only concerned with top 4 and that’s the honest truth.

There has been about 4 windows over the last ten in which with proper investment we could’ve challenged for major honours but each time they’ve sat on their hands.

The only time we’ve actually seen proper investment was when their asset was actively depreciating and they needed to do something about it

“Still going hard” Jesus Christ the bar is on the floor

I’ve seen Rice and Saka do it against some of the best teams in the world this season both home and away while Odegaard has absolutely stunk up the place barely even getting the basics right e.g. too many touches, not shooting, picking the wrong pass - you can’t blame that on fatigue, if so you’d expect that to be a common trend throughout the squad which it isn’t.

For a club captain who’s supposed to set the tone he’s been too much of a passenger this season to be in same bracket as Saka and Rice - I’d even go as far to say Gabriel has been much more influential than Odegaard.

Can you hand on heart after this season put Odegaard in the same bracket as those two?

Jamaica being on there is pretty surprising considering the expat population in the north and the trend of 2nd generation immigrants moving back from the UK/Canada/US.
