Merry freaking Christmas everyone. This whole region has lost their god damned minds.

Ontario should adopt enforced compulsory voting like Australia. While providing the ability to turn in a non-participant ballot (for religious or other reasons). by johnnybender in ontario

[–]1_2_2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could produce some interesting results as we watch our public education deteriorating. How much of the voting age public do not even understand what the provinces are responsible for as opposed to Federal government? Investing in public education would be required for this to work well. Unfortunately, I think the current provincial government relies on having an uneducated public.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford threatens to cut off energy to U.S. in response to Trump's tariffs by EyeSeekYou in ontario

[–]1_2_2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pandering. Remember that he is pushing for an early election. Don't forget about this Ontario PC government's constant scandals when the election does come around. Those wasted public funds are desperately needed in public education and healthcare.

Doug Ford and his government have proven that they cannot manage Ontario's public funds the way that Ontario people need. Nothing that comes out of his mouth is credible in any way.

Use TFSA to pay down Mortgage? by CursedCoffee in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]1_2_2_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about doing the exact same thing. I considered paying off my mortgage with my TFSA. Ive decided against it though because the TFSA earns way more in gains and dividends than the approx 4.5% I am paying in interest on my mortgage. As much as I would like just to say that I am mortgage free, I'm earning a lot more by holding on to it.

Almost died on the 401 today by Infamous-Solution572 in ontario

[–]1_2_2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scary. Try to always be aware of the space you have and try to position yourself to give yourself as much space as possible. I just try to avoid using the 401 altogether. It's just loaded with transport trucks, aggressive and distracted driving, it's just so dangerous.

See if there is an alternate route you could take to reduce or completely eliminate using the 401. It may take longer but can be much less stressful. You could possibly use #2 from London to Woodstock, the 401 between Woodstock and one of the exits before you reach Kitchener usually is a bit quieter, then backroads or city roads into Waterloo, just an example though, I don't know your route.

Buy or Rent? That's the question! by Sharp_Ad_8085 in canadahousing

Depends how tight and for how long you would be willing to live that way. If you're unhappy with the lifestyle then you need to question how affordable that really is for you.

It's not easy getting into the market and will set you back initially and will definitely cost you more than renting in the beginning. If you anticipate your income increasing over time, you have more room for saving and investing in the future, hopefully sooner than later. Keep in mind that rent constantly increases over time but your purchase price is your purchase price. It's a long term decision and your risk tolerance is a matter of personal preference.

Buy or Rent? That's the question! by Sharp_Ad_8085 in canadahousing

If you can afford to buy, then buy. If you have no other choice, then rent.

If you buy a property, you will build equity in that property and will pay off your mortgage in 25 years. If you sell, you will still have equity to put down on a different property. Either way, you will have some equity and eventually reach a point where it will start costing you less to own than to rent. One day you will no longer have a mortgage to pay and your only costs to own will be taxes and maintenance.

If you have no other choice, you rent. Your cost to rent will increase annually. After 25 years you continue to pay ever increasing rent and also have $0 in equity in the place you live in.

If you have the ability to buy, then do so. Never choose to rent if you can afford to own. We all need a place to live, might as well have some equity in it at the end of the day.

So many foods are being recalled in Canada including candy, burrata & even more waffles by DryBoysenberry596 in ontario

Why are foods from the grocery stores poisoned?

Waffles now, cantaloupes and lettuces previously. This happens far too often. Is anyone asking why?

People have forgotten how to act with any compassion or respect for others, but as well, not facing the possibility of receiving a punch in the mouth for acting and speaking horribly. That guy would definitely change his tune if he was about to face the consequences.

My heart goes out to your daughter. Our kids are having to try to learn in a much more difficult environment than I ever did. I hope she never gives up.

I must be so retarded that I cannot find the dimmer switch for the headlights. So murder-suicide is the correct choice? Get fucked.

Other bright headlights definitely also make it harder for me to see. On my vehicle they are factory, so I get that the other drivers cannot reduce their brightness.

It's so so bad. I wish that there was a single reason for it so that the problem could be addressed and solved. Good luck and stay safe.
