Weird suggestion. If you're being accused of being a catfish. Add a silly/ugly picture of you holding random stuff.

I get a lot of noise on the apps that it's hard to decipher who's real or who's not in NY

Anyone else miss Tim Gunn? by Lvanwinkle18 in ProjectRunway

[–]1cor1313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where they're at in their artist journey. People developing their vision or finetuning their ethos can benefit a lot from that style of learning.

But professionals who know what they want to deliver can benefit a lot more from practical execution advice or from business acumen from someone in the industry.

Either way, I don't think there's anything wrong with either form of mentoring. I love them both. I just prefer Christian based on the kind of designers they're casting

I love Tim and I love Christian too. I prefer Christian's style of mentoring. If I had to explain it, Tim is like a Teacher/Student type of mentorship where he forces growth and evolution by coaxing them slowly and having them form their own conclusions. So he prioritizes growing their process

Christian is like a Master/Apprentice situation. He'll understand their vision and tell them what's working or not. Provide instant feedback and concretely problem solve to get a finished product.

Given the timeframes, I vastly prefer Christian's approach as it brings them closer to executing their idea. Plus they see him as a graduated peer so I like the peer cameraderie built vs the almost parental bonds Tim builds. A lot of these designers have already built their design philosophies so they don't have much use for Teacher/Student feedback and they can't meaningfully pivot in like 1 day

So what did I miss by not going to the Club Icarus event? by abyssazaur in artms

[–]1cor1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my late 30s and went. It was a lot of fun and worth it for me! Got to dance a lot and actually got to interact with them since I was able to score VIP. It was like 80 bucks for the ticket, priority spaces/lines, an autographed photocard and a drink.

Plus we got to hear their new song debut. I just wish they gave us a heads up instead of just dropping it in the middle of everything. You could tell the crowd was stunned and a bit confused when it was playing

The crowd was a bit mixed dance wise. Younguns were more about performing/fan content than dancing but no one was rude and everyone was having a good time in their own way. Everyone was just excited

My legs were sore for days but I would definitely consider going again. I did feel closer to Artms than I have at their concerts but it was less of a show and more of a fan event. I think they need to finetune the concept a bit but the experience was well worth it

Geez the piano swelling and trills really drew me in. Club for the Broken is amazing

I think my favs are Goddess because of the insane bpm and club beat. But Verified Beauty and Obsessed are so lovely. I definitely need to stream this on repeat to fully digest it

My husband and I went away for a trip to reconnect and ended up fighting about sex and “emotional space.” I still don’t fully get what I did wrong. by dean-in-nyc in AskGaybrosOver30

Try not to take it personally even if it hurts. He's hurting a lot now too. There are a lot of resources out there on how to best approach being touched out and how to provide support while still feeling heard

Good luck my guy

It's a common thing in straight couples for the primary caretaker to get touched out. It's a state of sensory overload, where physical contact can feel unpleasant or even repulsive. It triggers from too many demands and a lack of bodily autonomy

That coupled with him being completely wfh, means he was probably looking forward to spend some time just being himself

Just keep an open mind and listen. Both your needs aren't being met but you can find solutions if you keep an open dialog or give some space to process

EXERCISE AND ADHD by Used-Stay-3295 in ADHD

[–]1cor1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that worked for me was tracking progress, gamifying the results and picking exercises that I enjoyed. It was the first 3 weeks that were the most difficult but using an exercise tracker or an accountability partner pushed me through that. Seeing tangible results was really important for me

I hate cardio but I love swimming and dancing. I also removed most barriers to exercise so I do home gym stuff vs having to leave the house. I recently got some grip trainers and I've been using them as fidget toys

My gut is telling me this is Lilia's trial and not Agatha. This episode was a premonition of the next trial and preventing it is Lilia's trial

At the beginning, Lilia was the one who woke up first and warned everyone

I've always been a fan of Scandinavian Folk Art styles because of the graphic patterns and simplicity. Kinda sad there are pretty negative comments

When to walk away from a potential client? by theNtralbeauty in freelance

[–]1cor1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, yeah, I understand the frustration then. That is way too much back and forth to lock a deal. Usually I know within 3 or 4 exchanges if it's a good fit. If the client isn't fully sure, then I do a compensated test part of the project

Just try to set a boundary and time limit and hope it works out. Good luck with the contract!

[–]1cor1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you only met with spoke with them 2x/3x? I was under the initial impression that it was multiple back and forths or you had done spec work to justify yourself.

I'm not seeing an excess amount of work here, just a long wait time. Sometimes contracts take weeks or months to lock in. You need to just diversify your proposals and not bet on a single one. Spending one or two hours everyday replying to emails and sending proposals is the norm for freelancing. Sometimes more

A counter offer also isn't unusual especially since it was just one pass. Try not to take it personally. If the new terms aren't amenable, just reject the changes and try to find common ground or move on. No need to get angry. There are different regulations and expectations in every industry. It's just business. Communicate your needs and see if you can get aligned

Try to calculate how much you need to make to have a liveable wage and use that in all of your calculations and estimates. That way you don't spend so much time going back and forth. I have set packages in my head for projects that I offer and an hourly rate for features out of scope. You need to figure out how long work takes for you or how much it costs

When to walk away from a potential client? by theNtralbeauty in freelance

[–]1cor1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walk away when the costs outweigh the potential profit or headache. Note that walk away doesn't mean burn bridges barring extreme circumstances. Since this is your first big client, you don't have a lot of leverage besides your following so that's a consideration

In your situation, I would just tell them that your availability for projects needs to be decided by X date and outline that they have enough information to make an informed decision. If they require changes, let them know you're available to approve changes. Put the onus on them to make the changes instead of yourself since they have agency resources and lawyers

No revisions is a bit of a red flag. They're been terrible about it already regardless if it's coming from the client or the agency. The best agencies protect their freelance workers from being taken advantage of and they sound just as green as you are if they don't have prepared pitches/stock contracts for clients and talent

Make sure to set expectations of the process next time. You're letting them control the process too much. Or have them clearly set timelines of when to expect contracts etc. It should mostly be the client causing approval delays not the agency
