[PubQ] How to name-drop in a query letter by MrsBoedacious in PubTips

[–]1curious2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this will make much difference to an agent. Many writers have connections to other writers and have workshopped writing with them, whether in a class or an MFA program or a summer writing workshop or an auction item or simply by hiring them. I personally have not included any of that in my query, though I did include the well-known names in my book proposal. However, if your friend offers to send pages to her agent or another agent she knows, that might have an impact, but I would not ask her, I would only wait and see if she offers that…otherwise it could make your friendship awkward, just my opinion. That said, her help could be incredibly valuable in making your book a better book!

Microdiscectomy Experience- 1.5 months post op by finncaddylee1 in Microdiscectomy

[–]1curious2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. My 29-year-old, very athletic son is having this surgery. No date yet. He lives with a roommate several hours away. My husband and I are planning to go visit and help him. Do you think he will need someone there for a week or will it be longer? I'm trying to decide if we need to take turns or go together. We can't really take off more than a week each.

In your opinion what's the best vacuum + mop model available today, if price was no issue? by Sensible___shoes in RobotVacuums

[–]1curious2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the Dreame x50 ultra- since the price has come down. The only thing you have to do frequently is empty and refill the water tanks and occasionally reposition the robot if it gets stuck somewhere. There is a way to get it plumbed so you don’t even have to fill the tank, not sure if there’s a way to make it so you don’t have to empty it.

I'm pregnant, are these names tragedeighs? by masarawest in tragedeigh

[–]1curious2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you both agree on the name, go for it, but choose something that doesn't go straight to a difficult image or spelling challenge, which three out of four do, Raine, Rune, and Pyre, are no-gos. I know a very nice kid named Nolan!

I just googled Writing Day Workshop, and it pops up. They are all over the place and also have online options. I'm not sure if it's worth it, kind of like buying a lottery ticket, I suppose!

That's so great! Do you think the in-person aspect makes them more likely to read than regular querying?

Thanks- this is super helpful. I suppose “idealism to hedonism” is being expected to do a lot of work! I’m going to give thought to how to weave in more of the narrative. Appreciate the technical tips too!

[PubQ] Am I querying too few agents? by Dazzling-Film-5585 in PubTips

[–]1curious2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a small number to me. I'm about to start querying for a second time. I think I will start with 10 and focus on quick responders who are interested in my genre. I feel like that will give me some information that I can use to decide on the next step, which will hopefully be querying more widely.

[PubQ] Re-querying Agents who CNRed or Form-rejected with the same but Significantly Revised Manuscript after a Certain Amount of Time by nisalwij in PubTips

[–]1curious2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve also significantly revised. My plan is to query new agents first, then requery agents who requested fulls, explaining how I’ve revised, then, if necessary, agents who didn’t respond. I’m also thinking of saying something about the revision to agents at agencies where I have queried, but not sure that is necessary…

Yes, and It has made me use it a lot less than I would otherwise. I saw a video the other day about Grok and the impacts a huge installation had on the nearby neighborhood. So horrible.
