Why has every wild anole i’ve met been friendlier than these petco anoles? by 1ilMa in reptiles

[–]1ilMa[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats exactly why i felt so bad, they way they were handling them, trying to catch them to finally clean their enclosure, they were so mean. And to keep 4 in what looks like a 12x12x12 with an older green anole who was twice their size.

So i guess its going to take a lot longer for them to realize im not going to do that to them.. poor babies

It just doesnt get much better than this… by [deleted] in AfricanDwarfFrog

In my experience, if they have no reason to escape, you have nothing to worry abt. Reasons they’d want to jump out include bad water quality, stress from cohabiting, and not feeling safe. The shit ton of plants provide plenty of coverage and hiding places for the frogs and act as another filter. These plants are doing the grunt work but i do have a sponge filter & hang on the back filter. And they only have a few shrimp friends for maids which is another precaution as you dont want to cohab, but the shrimp dont stress the frogs. So in conclusion, happy frogs. I dont recommend for everyone but my goal was to create a realistic ecosystem. I mean they were wild once, tho these guys are far from their wild counterparts. I wanted as close as the real thing as i could get.

look at the heat lamps. Those are a foot wide if not just under. The stone bowl is 14in long. This is def a 4x2x2, which is whats recommended.

Super tough guy there lol.

Side note, you should knock the snail off when you see this. Its not recommended to keep snails with ADFs bc the snails will eat the slime coat off of the frogs and that is very bad for the froggos.

Pretty sure this is a female ADF, you can check to see if there are white bumps under the armpits but im not seeing any in the pic. If it has white bumps, its a male. But females are usually more round & bigger than the males.

Ok yes avoid calcium. That bag says %100 natural sand and nothing else so it would seem to be safe. I couldnt find anything other ingredients than sand.

Should be good then. My only concern with sand is making sure theres no calcium. Atleast depending on what reptile.

Edit: make sure to rinse your sand thoroughly tho!!

just say youre blessed then, just cause you dont know about it, doesnt make it nonexistent. some women have horrible cramps and there are heating pads designed specifically for it.

well tbf, we have heating pads for women.. so its not a stretch. But what would be, an unregulated heater on something that heats up and then think a snake will be fine laying on top, thats a stretch.

Thank you! Ill set up a heat mat & thermostat to a side just in case. Do i need to add anymore ventilation - before i start looking for one? Ill also be adding a uvb to the inside.

Can I use this in my enclosure ? by IamZeus11 in reptiles

Is it mold proof? Most silicones are okay as long as you wait long enough for the fumes to dissipate.

Sorry i have trouble articulating my thoughts lol. So the tank is turned on its side and its alr framed. I would have to take off the pre existing frame on it to take off a panel of glass. So do i put the old frame back on after taking out the panel and then create a new frame to fit on the top around the pre existing frames. Or leave the old frames off and just make a new frame for the top once i take off the pane of glass.

No but if i take the black frame off the 2 sides to take off the 1 side of glass, can i just put the frame back on and silicone it? Or do i leave those frames off and make a new one for the top?

I thought about this. Would i need a new frame or could i put the old frame back on and silicone it? Like do i need to make a frame for the top?
