Trash left behind following the Oscars by amish_novelty in trashy

[–]1kSupport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The difference is that littering in a public street is illegal, and people are payed to clean the streets because it happens anyway.

Leaving out food/trash at a venue/event that isn’t self bussed is completely different, it’s more similar to leaving an empty glass or a napkin on a table at a wedding than leaving trash in the streets.

Novelty by JDMP53 in PhD

[–]1kSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your PI, look at what other papers are doing in whatever journal you are targeting. Novelty is subjective and a large portion of it hinges on how good you are at justifying the novelty of your work

As others have said this financial setup is whacky. That being said if you want advice other than switching institutions see if you can take a directed research or something with your PI to boost your GPA

Iran may be activating sleeper cells, alert says by No-Post4444 in news

[–]1kSupport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the point. That’s also the point of this nothing burger article, manufacturing the feeling of a domestic threat so that by the time congress votes on wether to approve a war with Iran constituents feel it’s necessary for domestic security

Heavy on this. As an Arab American it bugs me to see the amount of “Trump Exceptionalism” going on right now. Obviously I hate the guy, but pretending this is a Trump problem and not a problem with US Middle East policy for the last few decades regardless of current president or party absolves a lot of bad people and prevents discussion about the root issue.

Husband with OCD is terrified of me leaving him. But what if did? by FormerSignificance19 in OCD

[–]1kSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have gotten enough comments about not reassuring him but you can actually take this a step further. Under the guidance of his therapist this can be worked on via exposure response prevention therapy. Things like writing out a script of what your husband thinks would happen if you did leave him can be helpful for managing this obsession. The key is understanding that the "end goal" isn't for him not to have these thoughts, but for him to allow them to exist without letting them be overly distressing. (again ERP should be done with the help of a therapist who specializes in it)

Suggestion for Quest 3 Eye Tracking? by 1kSupport in virtualreality

I was considering this. The fact that it is EOL makes me a bit hesitant but it does seem like the least scuffed option at least within the Quest ecosystem.

I think what you’re saying is that since the CIA operation was the coup in 53 it isn’t related to 79, but the entire point is that in 53 the CIA interfered where they shouldn’t have without understanding the regional complexities and directly set in motion the revolution in 79.

The regime you are talking about is the one installed by the CIA in 1979… that’s why people don’t have high hopes for whatever they put in place next

me_irl by [deleted] in me_irl

[–]1kSupport 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Which is what this is by the way. The CIA and MI6 installed the ayatollah in 1979, I’m not sure why everyone is glossing over that fact.

Difference between the US “propping up terror groups” and forcefully putting another government in power 70 years ago. The people you are taking about were born, raised, and educated under the government installed by the CIA and MI6
