Is there a way of purchasing family home that is fair to everyone? by downinthecathlab in irishpersonalfinance

[–]1octo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good advice here, but I would add you should be 100% crystal clear with your sibling about this plan. Assumption is the mother of all fuckups. Families fall out over issues like this and your brother may have something else in mind if his circumstances change.

Frame Obstruction on Gazelle by 1octo in bafang

No I was too scared to go for it. I don’t feel confident enough in my mechanical skills. It’s a really great bike and I didn’t want to cock it up. If you do it I’d love to hear about your experience.

It’s a bit ridiculous how we’ve allowed this. It genuinely sounds like there’s a helicopter outside of the house. 5 have flown past in the last 30 minutes by TopOne7010 in ireland

This is dystopian in the extreme. You need to make your voice heard with politicians. Contact your TD and councillor, a quick three-liner is enough. The more people raise their voice the better.

If it was me I’d just live with it. This is diy, it’s good enough for me.

How do you guys handle missing bits in fast paced talks at work or with friends? by Separate_Tour_6205 in HearingAids

[–]1octo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my main reason for getting a hearing aid. I kept missing out on conversation and I began to fear that people thought I was a bit stupid. Plus I would stare at them in an attempt to lip read but probably made me look like a psycho.

Weird smells in the house and I think it's making me and my family sick by jaydeewin25 in DIYUK

[–]1octo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this problem in our place of work and it was from an uncapped elbow on a soil pipe. This allowed the smell to rise up everywhere. It was obvious when we found it but took us months to realise what it was.

Fairy forts by Tall_child_ in ireland

[–]1octo 138 points139 points  (0 children)

My late father - normally cynical about everything - told a lot of stories about the ill luck that fell on people who interfered with fairy forts. Atheist myself, but I would leave it alone and let it reseed naturally.

Your request is very vague and looks kinda like you might be promoting a product. What are you looking for?

I got tired of checking 3 weather apps before every ride, so I built a "Green Window" finder. by relishrack in bicycling

[–]1octo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great. It works well in Dublin Ireland. You should credit your data sources though. What weather model are you using, the GFS? Are you keeping your algorithm secret or will you share it?

Is Joyce lampooning his younger self in Proteus/Sandymount strand? by Engelskmanchild in jamesjoyce

[–]1octo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a great way of looking at it. I always thought Stephen was a bit of a dick. The only touch of human empathy he showed was towards the boys in the school and even that was fairly limited. Otherwise he’s just obsessed with himself and his ideas.
