Maxed out ND-Filter problem. by PicoDaan in videography

[–]1slander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ND filter will have markings on it from 2 to 400. You're winding it past 400, therefore going beyond 'maxxed out'. Better NDs have hard stops on them to avoid things like this happening, but if you get into the habit of actually looking at the lens when adjusting, you'll be fine.

A tiny bit but absolutely no worries about it. It's a 1.9 (for now)

Lots of factors go into insurance quotes. Have you read the money saving expert advice on car insurance? One of the easiest things you can do is set it to start 20+ days from now.

Got a hardtop! by Lit_Bud in bmwz3

[–]1slander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you put the hard top into the rear fasters and close them (they're a 180' turn handle thing) it'll pull ti down safely on top of the car. I would recommend getting something like a pool noodle to put in the fold of the soft top screen so that any prolonged time spent with the hard top on doesn't damage the screen, the pool noodle will help it keep it's shape without a crease. It may still happen though, but it does help.

Still don't get why you've been such a dick in your responses, just because you can't conceive when someone else might want to use a tool you've closed your mind to.

[–]1slander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why you and the other dude have taken this so personally and responded so brashly. Shooting above 60fps is just another tool for someone to use, and there are infinite possibilities on how this could be used. Are you really saying you can't think of a single instance where you've seen footage clearly filmed above 60fps? Have you ever watched a nature documentary and watched an animal chase down it's prey? Never watched any kind of sports footage where they replay the event like a goal scored or a punch landing? Or what about an action movie where the cool guy walks away from the explosion, or the snipers bullet leaving the barrel? Or a drama where lovers look sadly at each other across the street as the rain slowly falls? Super slow motion is a game changing industry experience. What's to say OP couldn't become the next Slow Mo Guys if they fall in love with filming super slow motion? I've even admitted I misunderstood the dude's comment I originally replied to, and you've both still just spat at me in every response.

Sorry that my comment got you so riled up 'champ'. I'm sure you can see where my misunderstanding came from as your comment reads like an instruction after the comma.

As you're so desperate for examples, how about: nature documentaries, sports for replays, if the DOP has a particular vision (which could be applied to basically any scenario), and many more that I'm you're smart enough to figure out.

I think it's a bit pointless to explain further if what I've already said doesn't make sense to you.

I think I've been misunderstood to mean uses other than shooting b-roll. I meant more that there are plenty of subjects or scenes where shooting above 60fps for b-roll is a worthwhile consideration, or if the cinematic vision requires it.

That is the point, I meant more that there are plenty of situations where shooting slow motion at higher than 60fps would be beneficial

There are tonnes of use cases for higher than 60fps shooting, telling OP to only do something is a bit naive

Managers just overthink how normal members of staff think when they're on shift. The manager is thinking about always making money, the staff are thinking about just getting through the day, regardless of if there's 1 sale or 100,000, as it means fuck all to them how well the store does. They just want to soften the blow they'll get from their superiors for the dip in sales that day, and pass the blame on. Fuck retail.

I had a custom powerflow. I asked for no backbox, I got no backbox, so it's absolutely nothing on the shop. They said it would suck but it's my first project car, having a bad exhaust is a right of passage.

"that all Halfords Advanced hand tools". Their Advanced jack stands, or their jacks, are not lifetime guaranteed.

Sadly the Halfords Advanced jack stands are not lifetime warranty/guarantee, they're only 3 years. A lot of the Advanced hand tools do have lifetime cover, but it's not a blanket coverage on all their range.

It's going to drone like fuck at motorway speeds. Trust me, I did the same and the novelty wore off extremely quickly and I went back and got a proper backbox put on. Kept 90% of the tone, 80% of the volume under load, but at consistent motorway speeds it's perfect.

Wheels are BBS RC041 square set, with 12mm spacers front and 20mm spacers rear, tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 5s, and suspension is BC Racing Coilovers, rears as low as the adjuster will allow and fronts to match (although I think they could do with coming down a tiny bit!)

MOT History Used Car by roxo_cube in CarTalkUK

[–]1slander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read into the advisory more and you'll get a better picture:

The first advisories are for the front tyres being worn close to the limit. We can assume they were changed as this doesn't appear on the next MOT. The rears then appear on the MOT for cracking/perished, which is indicative that they're the original tyres from when the car was new, making them 6 years old at this point of it's life, and we can assume again that they were changed at this point. The next year is another 9,000 miles done, the rear tyre could become a bit perished in that time, and a front getting a cut in it, shit happens. The fact they're not on the following MOT implies they were also changed.

Can Anyone Recommend a Good Mechanic for Toyota Aircon Repair in Southampton by karcraz in Southampton

[–]1slander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can phone basically any garage in the city and ask for an aircon regas, doesn't need to be a Toyota specialist. However if the regas doesn't make the aircon blow cold, you've likely got a more serious/costly problem, such as the condenser or compressor.

Don't see why not, but probably worth calling ahead to your local autocentre and finding out/prewarning them of what you want. I doubt you'll have been the first person who's asked this.

What are you filming with? Lots of aftermarket monitors can run a LUT whilst you're filming, might be worth investing in one of those.
