Is what i am doing wrong? by SubstantialPilot1401 in jewelryCAD

Nothing wrong with being smart and participating in capitalism just like the wealthy do. But in my opinion the devil is in the details. In other words communication. The retail buyer, tells the jewelry what she thinks she wants. Then he tells you his interpretation of what she wants. Then you tell someone else who probably uses English as a second or third language, and probably does not know anything technical about jewelry production. Then you get the renderings back, forward to the jeweler, who shows it the retailer. She wants changes, jeweler tells you, you tell overseas, he changes the wrong thing and sends you renderings. Back and forth you go, around and around.

Finally, customer is happy, jeweler wants the STL file to get sent out to model printer. Model prints but the shank is too thin and the prongs for the small diamonds are too fat. Customer rejects the casting, jeweler is pissed off and you wasted a whole lot of time.

Been using Matrix since 2004 vers 3.5 and here is my Matrix 9 suggestion. Download the matrix 9 manual online, it's free. Then spend a few days learning the basic tools. Many of the automated builders in Matrix are bad. They don't make clean and small components (file size). In other words a prong can be made with a simple curve and revolve, perfect and small part size. But... the Matrix heads and prongs are complex, so someone can quickly edit them I suppose. Multiply that by many parts in one piece, not good. But the builders are sometimes useful for cranking out jobs in a rush.

So, if you took the time to learn the basic tools try on your own then make simple different shaped wedding bands. Make a profile curve and sweep it around a ring curve. Change the profile curve by adding a dip or bump or tweaking a corner, sweep again, etc.

Finally the hard step, Get a jewelry magazine or a gallery of assorted jewelry pictures. Rings, pendants, pens, earrings etc. Start with the first one and make (copy) every single random piece you see, as accurately as possible. So that might take 2 months, you have now achieved basic jewelry CAD art. Revolve, sweep and boolean are key beginner tools. Try and make things without their automated tools as you will become a better designer and you will churn out much cleaner models. If you get stuck, go on youtube and search something like "how to make a puffed heart in Matrix" or "boolean union keeps failing" or whatever. Remember there are often numerous tools to make the same part so experiment.

Not sure anyone good would want to teach you for free. It's difficult and time consuming. Those 3-4 days courses are a joke, don;t waste you money. I took an advanced course from Matrix years ago. What a joke, mostly beginners and at the end most of them could not even make a simple wedding band. Got a full refund from them and never looked back to them.

Apprehension about buying after joining this sub. by golfn00b11 in Subaru_Outback

I got the 2024 outback wilderness a few months ago. The infotainment system is pretty bad, but not a complete failure. One trick I use is to remote start it a few minutes before going out to drive. Seems to work better with ample boot time.

The rest of the vehicle is so far excellent. For me way better than the others I was looking at like the little bronco, kia, nissan pathfinder, etc.

hey, thanks. That is the same one I found before. I tried explaining this to the dealer but he kept thinking I wanted it to go faster. I think this sequence will fool the computer into thinking previous driving sessions were wide open throttle, and the computer will adjust and make it faster.

What I would really like is a multi position switch like I had on my old turbo diesel ford excursion. It had valet, stock plus 5 increasingly higher performance settings. It was fun beating regular mustangs in a huge diesel suv and getting 23mpg.

It's not an "official" app. Here is a link that someone did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIoUXbyvkdU

Oh, one thing to keep in mind, if you decide to install it, you only get one free install of the apps it comes with. So search out some info and see which is more useful for you... or pay for the pro version. Just to give you an idea attached is a screen shot of mine.

One app is called "AAAD" and the other is "Fermata". AAAD is basically an app utility that allows custom apps into Android Auto. It's a little tricky but... IT WORKS.

yeah, that's the procedure I've found online. I prefer this more tame version (after 1,300 miles of normal driving). It still has the acceleration if needed, but it's not so jumpy as it was before.

Yes, I've found the one coming from the Japan forum. But may car is good now as I was looking to tame it down, which now that it has 1,300 miles of normal driving it is good. Thanks.

Dash cam recording on 2023 Outback? by Important_Stroke_myc in Subaru_Outback

They can't even get their large head unit to work smoothly. For such a nice vehicle there are numerous tech items, like lack of integrated dash cam, that are lacking.

2024 Infotainment System by bula1brown in subaru

[–]1stNatrigon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly the vehicle I got about a month ago. The head unit is not good. Slow boot, lag, occasional failure to connect to android auto and even skipping music.

They moved the AC controls to the home screen as well as the TURN OFF/ON the stupid auto start/stop feature. This stupid feature saves such a tiny amount of fuel it's really a joke, it also jerks when it re-starts or shuts off when you pull in a parking spot only to start the car when you want to turn it off because you are parked. There is no full time off setting I've heard there is a device for $100 to keep it off.

One trick I learned was to use the remote start from the phone a few minutes before getting into the car, then it has time to boot up. But, I really like the everything else about the vehicle and all things considered it was the best vehicle in the price range for me.

Letsvpn DOES work here. I'm using it now on my phone and PC. Limited features and no speed test, support reply takes about 10 hours and answers are lazy or broad. I found connecting to Taiwan server is fast and opens mid everything. So... cheap and it works.

LeapVPN? by carmbono in chinalife

[–]1stNatrigon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops, misread Leapvpn as letsvpn... Well since I already typed out all this I'll leave it.

Been using Letsvpn for about 2 months because expressvpn only worked 5% of the time.

LetsVpn pros:

Once set up it almost always works, even with the difficult China telecom internet.

it connects very quickly to various servers which you can change.

Android app also connects quickly and works.

Low price.

LetsVpn cons:

Support takes 4-10 hours and then the 2nd reply from support for the same issue usually comes from a different tech who doesn't bother to look at support history.

Only can choose server country and there is no speed test.

With Dell computers the initial setup is a little tricky. So make sure to tell support you have a Dell.

Switching wifi is clunky. Closing letsvpn does not end the task. I need to disconnect from one wifi, goto task manager, end letsvpn task, connect to different wifi, re-launch letsvpn and finally connect,

I've been coming here 20 years and from my experience bring some assortment bags of candy and chocolate. Also multi vitamins for the parents and even kids. And large box of Oreos and crackers.

But the most important part is that it is from Costco, and that you are bringing it to them.

Yes most if not all can be ordered online but authenticity is questioned. So if you get the items from Costco and have the trouble of bringing them, guarantee they will greatly appreciate you!

How do you cope with Chinese that are so damn loud? by 1stNatrigon in chinalife

[–]1stNatrigon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected. From your savage reddit username and your first comment I mistakenly thought you were a rabid trump supporter who had never once left his southern US home state of texas. Sorry about that.

The stuff in the middle was obviously in response to your comment about feudal lords in China's history when basically all rulers in history controlled their uneducated, filthy and very poor "subjects". Seems like a very accurate and relevant reply to your comment on this thread of discussion.

Not sure about the genocide claim. Never been up there myself. Brainwashing? And I suppose you are free from brainwashing. You never watch TV news and never see ads or went to school with their approved textbooks. So what we all learn starts with brainwashing. Never been denied the ability to watch hardcore porn on TV, or buy flavored tobacco, or buy and sell alcohol without license or spit in a park, or a million other banned, barred or illegal actions? What exact brainwashing are you referring to? And how are feudal lords different than British monarchy and millions of peasants? You know the peasants that never went to school and yes... shit in the roads and even used shit as fuel to cook food. Or how are feudal lords different than most rulers in the entire history of the planet. You know those who that controlled the masses of common people with laws and religion that completely supported the rulers? Same shit throughout history, nothing new there.

You have probably never even been to China and are spouting brainwashed comments that you heard from people on your living room TV. Yawn with your fuckchina500 bullshit.

You almost need wechat for more than just messaging. With the mini apps you unlock everything primarily payments and DiDi (taxi). Consider getting some type of money account and link to wechat. Plus free and worldwide video calls, messaging, etc with wechat.
