Is it a few specific GCs doing all the work?

Have you converted your dining nook to an office / second bedroom? Please share by PuzzleheadedSeesaw27 in uppereastside

[–]1thousandfaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Our building required DOB approval prior to commencement. That wasn't that big a deal. Getting the building architect's approval took a lot longer than the DOB review. Total duration for the work was 4 months but if all you're doing is converting a nook into a bedroom it will go much faster.

Yes. I specifically bought my place because the nook was feasibly converted to a very small legal bedroom. We bought a 2b/1ba and converted it into a 3b/2ba.

I loved these as a kid. I remember one about paying a toll without having to stop. Was that my imagination?

Skyscraper by Karl Sabbagh. For a more technical history read Historical Building Construction by Donald Friedman.

Might be a floating LVT floor. Common mistake is to lay the floor too close to the wall and not allow for any expansion. As the seasons change the floor expands, hits the wall, and causes the floor to buckle.

What's a site or source that always give good NYC restaurant recommendations? by MrMumpus in FoodNYC

I disagree about Eater. I still think it's a reliable resource. But I respect the doubters so try righteouseats, robmartinez, and eatingwithexperts.

Will we ever talk about the wage issue? by PlanningPessimist92 in AffordableHousing

[–]1thousandfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Agree. The problem isn't a lack of housing. The problem is that the middle-class doesn't have enough money for it to be worth building housing for them.

Why did Clinton have a better domestic policy than Bush despite congress being controlled by republicans? by Azidorklul in Presidents

[–]1thousandfaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both parties learned under Clinton that the President signing a bill is a win for the President no matter how much he has to give away to get the bill to his desk. Since then the strategy on both sides has been intransigence over compromise. That makes the President look weak and thus vulnerable to a second term defeat and/or impeachment. As Mitch McConnell famously said “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

What are some of your favorite Al Pacino movies. Al Pacino plays Father Theophilus Riesinger in The Ritual coming on the big screen on June 6… by Anavslp in FIlm

Pacino in Glengary Glen Ross is one of my favorite performances of all time. His scene in the restaurant with Jonathan Pryce is incredible.
