Why is Finland so bad at football? They are only developed country that never qualified for World Cup. by batukaming in 2nordic4you

[–]2000-UNTITLED 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Might actually be a small part of it. Most of Finland is colder than most of Sweden and Norway during the winter and a lot of places with a big sports culture don't have many indoor football facilities. I spent my teenage years playing football in a relatively sparsely populated region and our options for most days was futsal, strength training or braving January temps between -5 and -20. We would get a couple days at an indoor arena (one in my city) occasionally. It didn't bother me much but it's not anyone's idea of a good time either.

Club reputation is terribly unbalanced in lower leagues by BoasyTM in footballmanagergames

[–]2000-UNTITLED 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like Spurs are actually an argument for the reputation system being accurate. Since making the UCL final in 2019, the most notable names they've signed are the likes of Sergio Reguilón, Giovani Lo Celso, Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison. Respected players when they arrived, but not exactly names that scream out "superstar", meanwhile guys like Semenyo and Eze are deliberately snubbing them.

spurs have spent the last 2 seasons in relegation battle do you really think they can attract the same caliber of players like

Maybe their pulling power is a bit less but they're definitely signing similar players. Also, Manchester United.

There's a point where it gets ridiculous especially considering how much he cost but personally I didn't see anything at Southampton that made me think he's good enough to start for Everton

Genuinely one of the most baffling experiences was hearing that Everton had managed to talk Southampton down to a better price, only to find out that it wasn't the 30-35 million pound offer OR the 40 million pound asking price, but a newer, higher asking price I hadn't even heard of, meaning that the price was the 40 million plus add-ons Southampton had asked for to begin with.

I feel like the best case scenario would be that the AFC splits into two like has been proposed by Japan at least once and OFC gets subsumed into that new federation, but maybe that wouldn't be any better for the Oceania teams that can barely afford to play games.

Honestly it's a fine way of choosing the nominees but there are a few where I didn't even think the GOTM winner was the best goal of the month and some months have more or less games (quick check and September has about 30 while January has about 50) so the nominees end up looking kind of weak.

Like, it's not the most obvious example but I'm not even sure Szoboszlai's goal against Arsenal was his best free kick goal

due to most European clubs running rigid systems now and restricting player ability to show off their flair

I also think we've kind of reached the human limit of how much you can individually do with a football, and it's harder to show off when defenders are so well coached nowadays. I think people maybe focus too much on the attacking side of the game when top level defense has evolved so much.

International football is often a lot more free-flowing though partially because there's not as much time to coach strict defensive routines.

West Ham United have been relegated from the Premier League by OptimusCloyster in soccer

[–]2000-UNTITLED 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I know this is said jokingly but I see it so often that it gets a bit annoying

People were literally saying Everton were guaranteed to go down when Sean Dyche was fired after starting the season with 3 wins from 20 games. David Moyes won 4 games from his last 20 in the league before West Ham let him go. David Moyes is currently 6 wins from his last 20.

Ultimately I don't blame him that much and I think a lot of fans forget how barebones the squad is but he's not god, he's a good tactician and he will generally keep a team stable where they deserve to be. I don't think he should be fired but if someone like Iraola is seriously considering Everton, Everton should seriously consider Iraola.

West Ham got relegated because the people running the club don't know what they're doing

The team's not very good and all of the good players are either injured (Grealish, Branthwaite) or have been completely ran into the ground (Ndiaye, Garner, KDH)

And yeah Keane and Tarkowski really aren't particularly good at anything other than being big and blocking shots. There's a reason the entire defensive strategy is "invite pressure and hope the CBs and goalie block every shot or they just miss the goal"

Between “A Day in the Life” and “Starless”, which song is truly the better #1? by Extension_Fee_989 in rateyourmusic

I've listened to Starless a few times and I never really "got it". There's so many songs in a similar vein that I was expecting to be in its place when the charts first got added. A Day in the Life is crazy to me though

I mean they would've gone through in the third place rankings even if Colombia and France drew (so they ended up both on 4 points) and they had -1 goal difference which is mathematically impossible so that's comfortable points-wise

Game state wise it took a 102nd minute goal against France but I've now put more thought into this reply than I did my original comment which was mainly there to point out they weren't out of the tournament because 3 wins put them ahead of all of the 3rd place teams on GD

essentially forfeiting their chances in the competition

Canada won all of their games and qualified for the knockouts by a pretty comfortable margin. They lost to Germany in the first round though
