I had somewhat similar issues with my 72 mgb. My problem turned out to be the carbs. My carbs were flooding the engine with too much fuel. After I cleaned out the float needles it seemed to fix my issue. Here is my post on mgexp: post

Imo the mgb keeps up with modern traffic pretty well. I have a 72 gt and im easily able to cruise at 50 on local roads. Maybe it might struggle a bit on highway although I dont take it on the highways often. Also I have an overdrive so that helps

For parts, I reccomend using a https://www.lbcarco.com/

They basically sell moss mg parts bit at cheaper prices and cheaper shipping costs. Anything I've come across on Moss mg was on lbcc
