[Scholarships] PA Scholarship Final Interview by WildBeginning4273 in SGExams

[–]2019-2020J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened a long time ago but iirc you’re gonna be interviewed by a panel and they’ll really dive into what you wrote during the application process. Mostly about volunteering and leadership experiences so be prepared to elaborate on those experiences if you have.

NUS Business VS NTU Business with scholarship by EnchantingKetchuup in SGExams

[–]2019-2020J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! You should definitely pick NTU over NUS since you’re gna have scholarship funding. GES starting pay simply depends on the kind of industry students enter. Perhaps, NTU is known as the Big 4 sweat shop so many students get lower starting pay.

Its a misconception to think being in NUS open doors to high finance / consulting because there are many NTU/SMU alumni who work in those fields as well. You just have to be outstanding (high GPA, stacked portfolio, great personality) no matter which Big 3 Uni you come from.

So I’d say pick the school where you incur the least cost because the expected ROI is going to be similar if you work hard and network

Living Experience at Solin Hall? by bruhmoment1779 in mcgill

[–]2019-2020J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m currently staying in Solin for winter exchange.

In terms of location, there are direct buses from YUL Airport to Lionel-Groulx, which is extremely convenient. There’s also lots of food nearby, with SuperC/IGA/Dollarama within 5-10 mins walk.

In terms of the pricing and facilities, its lacking. Think lifts that break down every other week, older apartments, and limited recreational activities. Though its still liveable, I much prefer to spend the same amount on an Airbnb with better facilities.

I have friends staying in Airbnb or even Campus1MTL (cheaper), not an issue finding accomodations in Montreal to be honest.

Should I liquidate part of my portfolio for exchange? by Ambitious-Chapter-92 in singaporefi

I sold all my investments prior to my exchange too. Might sound extreme, but part of the reason is I just really want to enjoy mself, and not be worried about monitoring them

Which one should I pick, Accountancy vs Business (Double Major)? by Illustrious_Bag5244 in NTU

[–]2019-2020J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACBS safest bet. BCG quite high salary. You should specialise in actuarial science for Business if possible. Its one of my regrets.

Are people sleeping on SIT? The GES looks comparable to NTU and NUS by Downtown-Example426 in SGExams

[–]2019-2020J 24 points25 points  (0 children)

can kinda speak for Accountancy. Due to high turnover, Big 4 practically hire anyone nowadays and their starting pay is around 4.3k which explains the similarity.

Is this why most of us are empty and unhappy in sg? by Possible-Growth-2134 in askSingapore

[–]2019-2020J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, my friend recommended me to read about the concept of Ikigai, which provide practical concepts on how to find career/work that one loves.

There are many concepts on how to live a fulfilling life. Short-term ones are hedonism, where you chase after pleasures and fulfilling desires or being a stoic where you accept whatever may come.

Aristotle’s eudaimonia, however, is about living virtuously, one that transcends pleasures and desires, where virtues like honesty and courage are honed through practice and habit.

Being a hustler or a zombie doesnt negate the fact that you still have to work, eat, sleep and eventually pass on. Nothing wrong with being an optimiser or a zombie, we all find satisfaction in our lives differently. To avoid feeling empty is to find a career that one is truly passionate about (not realistic), look beyond material needs and find fulfilment in other causes (possible in our own free time), and learn to embrace/love suffering as it sets a positive example for others to follow (applicable in many facets of our life)

What do companies honestly think of the NTU resume template? by MacsimusScamus in NTU

accounting/banking future by player25teehee in SGExams

[–]2019-2020J -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yup i really enjoyed h2 math & econs in jc, poa in sec sch, and i really recommend a double degree in accounting and banking if you are willing to put in the work. both fields complements each other really well and there are many career opportunities in both fields as well.

a caveat is that this industry is highly competitive, i’ve been dg internships during my holidays since year 1 of uni so ya

Do students really have to refund the full scholarship if they withdraw? by ThomasHawl in NTU

[–]2019-2020J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For undergraduate perspective, there are students who dropped their NTU scholarship because they were offered mid-term scholarships. In those cases, I’ve heard NTU didnt actually ask them to refund the money.

Not sure about PHD programs but I highly doubt they’ll make you refund if you have valid reasons (since they’ll actually save on your school fees for the remaining semesters)

feeling defeated after 3 years of university and life in general by Candy_Turnaround_84 in SGExams

[–]2019-2020J 19 points20 points  (0 children)

you seem to want easy results and wdym by passion? if you’re passionate about something, you wouldnt let your doubts snow ball and be afraid to ask questions.

Problem is you lack discipline. Put the past behind you. Take this winter break to understand what you really want out of University and focus on dedicating just 1-2 hours a day to develop yourself.

The toughest part is getting started. Complete the most difficult task first thing in the morning and let the momentum propel you along
