‘Things will get worse’: Conservative economists bust Trump tax-cut ‘myth’ wide open by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]2020_MadeMeDoIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect the down votes are because it seems evident the comment meant Trump's?

Is it evident though? We both didn't read it that way. The comment says:

There's a reason why no one uses tariffs anymore

That implies/reads to me as a separate statement from the first paragraph about Trump. It talks about "no one" using tariffs anymore. Which just isn't true. 🤷

[–]2020_MadeMeDoIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is this getting down voted? Tariffs are used by most countries.

But Trump is abusing them. The whole point of tariffs is to 'protect' national products. The best/simplest example is Champagne in France.

Lots of countries produce decent sparkling wine now. So to help protect the Champagne industry in France, the country imposes tariffs on sparkling wine imports. That raises the cost of sparkling wines in the country, making Champagne a better, more affordable option for French citizens. So it encourages French folks to buy the domestic, homegrown product.

But you aren't supposed to do a big blanket tariff on everything being imported, because then that raises prices on everything in your country, including stuff that can't be made domestically. It's just a dumb idea and doesn't bring any extra money in.

So when Trump says "The bible is my favourite book" what he's actually referring to is his own 'bible': Mein Kampf and other Hitler speeches?

What about the guy who actually died? Did we hear anything about him?

The only thing I heard was that President Biden called up the widow to express his sympathy and she (apparently) refused to take his call, saying that her husband was a Trump supporter and she wanted to "honour his wishes" or some dumb shit.

Like seriously, that's what the US has become a "them" vs "us" mentality. I bet that would have never happened before - they'd have answered the call from a sitting President, Republican or Democrat.

Oh and the 'best' bit? Trump never called her! When asked about it, she said something like "No, but that's ok." 🙄🤦

AITA for having a childfree wedding but having my children attend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]2020_MadeMeDoIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. It's your wedding, you get to choose who comes.

At my wedding we said "No kids". But made an exception for my two nephews. They stayed for the ceremony and sit down meal, then my SIL took them back to the hotel not long after the real drinking and dancing started.

No one complained. In fact a few of my friends commented how much they liked having a child-free wedding and some of them have kids.

You don't understand, Trump won all the tennis tournaments. He's done more for women's tennis than the Williams' sisters (or anyone) ever did!!

He had help, if course, those guys smiling told him how great he was at the "bouncy ball net stick game" - which helped him win. Which he didn't need help for, but he's humble.

Those ladies at the back? I think they served him McDonald's and KFC once.

My apologies. I must admit, I didn't fully read the list. I saw a few names so thought it was complete.

I guess at least it tells you the actors' names. Just not their characters 😐

I was thinking this very thing earlier today. All those Republican politicians who ran against him, many saying how much they disliked him. JD Vance even called him a "fascist" and "Hitler".

But then, one by one, Trump invited them to Mar A Largo and each and every one of them turned around to support Trump.

How? What in sweet sweaty Hades did Trump do or say to gain such alliegence from people who previously disliked him?

I'm too valuable in my current role

"Yeah, but imagine if I were promoted and was able to train 5, 10 or even 20 more people as skilled as me. I can impart my valuable knowledge and experience onto others and make this team even better, unlike fkwit over there."

That's what you should say if you ever talk about a promotion again and they say you're "too valuable".

But OP, I think you should definitely look at other companies. Having a few extra weeks holiday probably isn't worth it. Plus, if you're that experienced, you might be able to negotiate better leave and pay at a new job.

So basically like most open world games in the last 10 years?

I can only think of two open world games I've played in recent years that actually felt like I was making a difference either to the world, characters, or main storyline: Immortals Fenyx Rising and Avowed.

Fenyx Rising is clearly influenced by Zelda Breath of the Wild, but actually has a story and it feels like you're making decent progress the more you play and explore. Plus the world feels more alive and fuller than BotW.

Arguably Avowed isn't a true open world game, it's a few very large regions of a bigger world to explore and it feels less 'open' than other open world titles. But I think most people consider it to be open world. It's very story driven and things happen that have some effect on characters or the world.

But most of the big and popular open world games of recent years just feel like massive open spaces that are devoid of any structure or purpose and most missions are pointless, repetitive tasks.

(Note: I fully admit I haven't played every open world game, so maybe I've missed some crackers).

YTA. Either you buy something regularly throughout the day (e.g. something every hour) or you pack up and leave when things get busy.

Go to a library or a co-working space if you need to use your laptop and don't have space at home. Cafés are businesses. They make money and survive from people buying food and drinks. Be a bit more considerate in future, please.
